I am definitely taken up on this offer for sure! :) Got my iPad Air this week from T-Mobile and loving it so far.

I wish dealing with telcos was easier, I always get wrong info. I have a Tmo voice plan so I called Tmo and paid $10 for the SIM to get the free 1gb ipad data which defaults to 200mb free in 2015.
The rep first tried to sell me a 3GB plan and said there was no 1gb plan. She had to check about it.She said I will only get 1gb free and not 1200mb.
I now use the free 200 ipad plan I set up myself but this 1gb plan is better. I assume it's set up only on the new Sim I'm getting. The 200mb SIM I'm using does not show a free 1GB option.

The email tmo just sent me shows $10/month will be billed. Why do they show that when it is a free promo? I asked the rep what the bill would show and she did not know...!

There is a 1GB plan. Normally $20 but with the new pricing it's $10. With a voice plan it's free. Whatever you heard from the rep was a lie.

The $10 will appear on your bill then will also be shown as a credit to your account.

This plan includes:
FREE FOR VOICE CUSTOMERS: Receive an additional $10 discount per month if you have a voice line on your account, making this 1GB promotional plan free through 2014
Unlimited data plan with up to 1GB monthly high-speed data for mobile internet access via the T-Mobile wireless network. Speeds slowed after 1GB.
2014 promotional plan reflects a $10 price discount valid through 2014.
No annual service contract. No overages.
Unlimited international web and text while roaming in 100+ countries.

Thanks, I didn't know it had no hard cap or overage. The Tmo website says you get 1gb + 200mb 'free' too if I read it right. nice for Tmo voice plan customers.

from tmo site-
Starting April 12th, new and existing T-Mobile customers with a voice plan…
Get up to 1GB FREE 4G LTE data each month through 2014
PLUS our standard offer of Free Data for Life with up to 200MB FREE 4G LTE each month for as long as you own your tablet. That’s over a gigabyte of FREE 4G LTE data each month until 2015!

First the 200MB "free for life portion" is used, then the actual plan kicks in.

Can you get the iPad Mini Retina without activating it with T-Mobile or paying for their monthly service? Just in other words, buy it outright?

Yes. Just tell them you will activate it yourself. I left the store without activating mine.

Question, as a Tmo voice customer, is the ipad sim I just ordered tied to my voice acct from Tmo different from a sim you can order and set up yourself with a new acct #.. What I mean is I already have the 200mb free plan on my ipad but it doesn't offer the 1gb option, as I set it up separately, on my own.
Is this new sim I ordered directly from Tmo by calling them with my voice acct a special one tied to my acct?
If so, how is it tied to my existing acct.
can I use a 3rd Sim I ordered before and tie it to my acct somehow and return this one they made me pay for?
Just asking before I try to set it up.
Thanks.

I just picked one up for my wife. She tends to hold onto her iPads for quite some time (just sold her ipad 2 in December). I think it is the best deal around right now.

Is this only for existing customers or people wanting to finance their ipad? I would love to buy a retina mini outright and just have the free 200mb/month and the capability to get a plan down the road if I choose to. Is that possible? The website is confusing.

It's an enticing offer and I'm happy TMo is doing it. As someone who will probably be on the cellular iPad and iPad mini train for a while, I'm probably not going to take them up on it. I'd pay more up front and go with a carrier that gives me complimentary tethering (not sure if TMo offers this) and decent coverage (not something TMo is known for, sadly.)

From what I've been reading (I'm probably going to go pick up an iPad from them today), they offer complimentary tethering with any of the data tiers above the free 200mb. I too have heard some bad things about their coverage in the past, but I know a few people that have had a lot of luck with them lately, and said that the signal issues that they used to have were mostly gone.

I was just over at the T-Mobile website and it looks like the $130 off promo is gone. When I purchased my 16GB rMini just about 2 weeks ago, the full retail was $399, now the website says full retail is $504. The 1GB of free data through 2014 is still available though. Might be worth giving them a call or stopping by a retail store to see if the promo really is over.

And, so far, my signal has been good.

I stopped into a local store today and was told that yesterday was the last day of the sale :( I was going to finally upgrade my iPad 2 today, too.

With their voice plans, they include tethering, was one reason I went with TMo over ATT, it was cheaper. Their other data plans may offer it too. TMo is getting lots of new customers, but not making a lot of money I read. Coverage is good in central Austin..

Oh, man! :( Hopefully, another deal will come along for you. Upgrading from an iPad 2 will be a big one.

Maybe try a refurbished unit. From my experience they are just as good as new and have the full warranty. Refurb iPads ship in "real" boxes, unlike refurb Macs. A quick check shows some 16GB and 32GB cellular iPad Airs for about $110 off (the AT&T models work with T-Mobile and Verizon). http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

You'll enjoy the jump from an iPad 2 to either the Air or Retina mini. :)

Try buying it secondhand. I was also going to buy one from T-Mobile, but decided that it was much cheaper buying it secondhand. The 128gb cellular iPad Air can be as low as $650 on Craigslist. Just be careful that Find My iPad is deactivated before you buy.

Also, the offer was only for postpaid offers. I tried to buy one outright in store, but the sales rep claimed that there wasn't an option to buy the 128gb version outright. I called customer support and confirmed that this is true.

Yeah, I looked at Airs for a while but I'm keeping my eye out for a Mini, part of my upgrade is going down to the smaller form factor, it just better fits my use case.

This is another option that I've been playing around with. I think Craigslist might be the only way, I have a hard time (personally) with trying to trust second hand purchases like that when I can't inspect the device. That's not cool about the postpaid thing, but it wasn't a huge deal to me.

We'll see, maybe if I don't get anything by WWDC, they'll announce something to actually make me wait for the Mini 2.

I definitely prefer to buy iPads in person, especially with iCloud activation lock now, but not many people sell the 128gb cellular iPad Mini. I ended up buying one on eBay for $680. The seller even included a Smart Case.

I bought the cellular T-Mobile tablet for the WIFI price, but when I got my first bill I was charged $20 for the 1GB of data. I do not have a voice account with T-Mobile. Should I have been charged $10 or $0 for the 1GB of data?
