If you want bleeding-edge specs like graphics cards then Mac has never been for you. Apple always puts a much greater value on things like stability, battery life, and tuning everything to work beautifully with macOS. It's not even possible for them to have put the latest graphics cards in these machines. They will been in development for many months, and as I stay things like graphics need to be custom tuned to the operating system and a lot of testing is involved.

These new MacBook Pros are the best MacBook Pros Apple has ever made. If you don't think they are worthy of an upgrade, then I wish you much happiness and every success with your new Windows laptop.

Apple can not to do better than this. These new MacBook Pros are pure unadulterated perfection.

Wow, you are a pure lemming with these types of comments? Perfection? Are you kidding me? The new MacBook Pro IS NOT A PRO! It's a MacBook Air made bigger!

And you want to talk about perfection?

1. This MacBook Pro cannot even connect to the new iPhone 7.
2. This MacBook Pro cannot even connect to lightening port headphones which Apple forced iPhone 7 users to buy.
3. This MacBook Pro doesn't have MagSafe which was a key feature of MacBooks.
4. This MacBook Pro has no ports compatible with 99% of all third party devices.'

Perfection? You are crazy. Enjoy your oversized and overpriced MacBook Air.

I wonder, do you earn money or it's volunteering? If you are making any profit, in my opinion, you can afford new computer every 4 years. Especially if you are making money with it and you want to depend on it. If you don't see the difference, just build hackintosh or buy Linux (as you stated in your post).

You really don't have to spread negativity -- which is quite "trendy" - that's why every 'revelation' about new MBPr is going viral.

Regarding your statement in red. Do you know who thinks that way? Poor people. Just because you can afford something doesn't mean you should buy it. That's how people get into trouble financially. I gross over $200,00 a year and drive a $50,000 car. Could I afford a $80,000 car? Yes. Could I afford to buy all tailored clothing? Yes. Do I?

No.

People hate it and yet record orders

As one of the people ordering one: I'm budgeting about $300 for extra dongles and such, but I think that with those, it will be somewhat better than the previous model, partially because Apple's had such godawful and disappointing graphics hardware in these for years that basically anything is an upgrade, and partially because a year and a half old CPU is not a thing I want to spend $3k on. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be a lot happier with a better machine, and I may end up regretting this one. It's happened occasionally when Apple's given no good options for a while.

I mean, if I got to pick specs, I'd be getting a matte screen, because I like those way better than the Retina glass.

Same thing here : Ordered one, feeling bad about it - and I'm not even paying for it !

Had to max out everything on the 13", and ending up paying (with the adapters both for home and for work) TWICE the price of a maxed out Razer Stealth Blade. Which also has a better screen, and a Kaby Lake processor. And can becoe a gaming machine if extended with the Core.

It was all a bad combination : I started a new job, needed a new machine instead of my own, and couldn't really switch entirely to Windows + Ubuntu and be as productive, at least for 2 or 3 months.

1. I would rather have my four other computers be able to connect to my phone with USB A instead of limiting to just USB C for the iPhone cable.

2. Who is using lightning headphones for Pro work? I have $300 Senheiser microphones that have that big fat audio connection that nothing directly supports without "gasp" an adapter.

3. I never needed MagSafe. I prefer having charging on any port than MagSafe. Some people need to be more careful if they need MagSafe and are constantly creating tripping hazards.

4. USB-C does 100% everything. From charging, to video, to data.

Yeah these aren't Pro machines. I am not able to do ANY photoshop, logic, final cut, Xcode, or anything else with these machines. It is completely IMPOSSIBLE!

I find this all somewhat funny.

I mean buy it or skip it, done, next();
Saves your time...

For the Hardcore Pros among us, there are HP Laptops with Xeon, Nvidia Quadros and 64GB ECC Ram, etc. to order.
Go for it, just 8k maxed out.

Most of the time you spend in your "PRO" application anyway, the OS shouldn't matter, else you do OSX/iOS dev.

MacBook Pro never had Xeons. Why are people acting like this is a brand new thing? Suddenly these systems are not Pro?

1. 5 quid adaptor from Amazon turns a USB-C port into USB 3
2. NO computer could before, your point is??
3. It uses a standard swappable USB-C cable so can be swapped when old and worn or swapped for 3rd party MagSafe style cables like the griffin breakaway. It's called options.
4. See #1

I'm not totally convinced of this. We've certainly moved towards streamlining somewhat -- a whole bunch of ports got replaced by USB ports. But there's a distinction to make between "which ports are likely to be useful has changed" and "let's just drop everything".

I'm sorta convinced (at least, convinced enough to post about it... lol).

We gave up a bunch of ports in the switch to USB. Because Apple dragged everyone along by not including ADB, serial, and some others, the accessory market had to adapt -- arguably for the better, too, I think.

It'll take some more teeth-pulling to make this next step, but I think it'll be good. Today's version of mobile computing is so much better than it was back then.

What the heck kind of dongles do you need? $300? I need one $17 one.

So, ports I need:

* DisplayPort or dual-link DVI. (HDMI won't work with the monitor.)
* At least four USB ports. Admittedly, a couple could be USB 1.1 for all I care, keyboard isn't super fast.
* Ethernet.

Ideally, I'd like all of these to go over the power cable, since that's the big selling point of USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports.

So, one option is to buy adapters. If I get a TB3->TB2 connector, I can attach my existing thunderbolt2 dock which provides ethernet and USB ports, and then I just need to come up with a TB3->displayport adapter, which appears not to have been one of my options ordering from Apple, and then I can get what I want and only have to plug and unplug four things (power supply, TB2, displayport, and audio) whenever I want to dock the machine.

Or I can buy a dock. And dock prices are $150ish if I don't mind them not actually using Thunderbolt, or relying on DisplayLink chipsets (which don't work well with 10.12 yet) instead of the altmode stuff, or $200+ and not actually shipping yet, and even then they may not be able to actually do the 85W. So realistically, I'll probably end up with some kind of horrible mishmash temporary solution followed by getting a dock in a few months when the market has settled.

Dunno why all this drama, too. :)
They just have to buy something that suits them better.

So far I will be happy with the maxed out "non-pro" MacBook Pro.
It does what I need, is Pro enough for me, and looks good, too.

The distinction I'd make here is, Apple was moving away from a bunch of horribly fragmented markets and incompatible specs. Now, it's moving from one spec to another single spec, and that's not as impressive an upgrade -- especially since the USB-C spec seems to be highly fragmented and full of madness. (For instance, look how many of the USB-C power delivery things out there support more than 60W. I haven't found any that are shipping except one Dell product that will supply >60W only to Dell hardware. That, and the power bricks Apple's selling.)

Needing a USB->serial dongle is a temporary thing until you get a non-serial gadget. Needing a USB->ethernet dongle is maybe not so temporary.

Except it can't, because the griffin one can't do 85W. (And, much though I love Griffin's hardware, the Griffin one isn't as good as actual magsafe was.)

The current cable will do 60w which is sufficient for the new 13" MacBook Pros and will quite happily charge the 15" models too, albeit more slowly. I'd expect to see 87w compatible ones out before the end of the year as there has been no need for higher compatibility until now.

Perhaps. But right now, it's not the case that I can get a magsafe port for the 15" laptops. And I don't know whether or when it will be.

Will still charge, just more slowly, like using a 13" MacBook charger on a 15" at present, although Im going to hold off for a fully compatible one. According to their twitter feed its fine with the 13, they are awaiting results with the 15.

I have seen "oh, it'll work, it'll just charge more slowly" turn out to mean "actually it wrecks the battery and can damage the power supply" at least once, so I think I'll wait for something a little more official.

Touch ID, only 5 years after it arrived on iOS and three years after Lenovo shipped a fingerprint reader on Thinkpads. Tim Cook loves the Mac and he's very committed to it. Stay tuned for more visionary innovations.
[doublepost=1477912233][/doublepost]

Have you used a Lenovo fingerprint reader??? Complete garbage.

But yeah, let's make the laptop thinner for the sake of being thinner, more expensive and include a "cool" factor aka emoji Touch Bar. Essentially, a toy for spoiled Starbucks bunnies with rich parents.

I guess I'm a 7-11 bunny. I don't drink coffee, but I do like my Diet Coke fountain drink, and it's a must I upgrade my 2011 MBA. What's a 7-11 bunny to do with this price increase? Should I get a 2016 MBA or maybe go PC (I hope not the latter).

Innovation does not mean you slap $300 or €400 onto a laptop for a Touch Bar and removing all useful ports. The fastest graphics card is equivalent to GTX 960/965 and it's last year components. This laptop doesn't scream "Pro" at all, it's an insult to professionals.

I dont have rich parents. I'm not simply taking pictures and dumping them onto my mac or trying to edit 4k video with a portable laptop. Im not running 27 virtual machines.

I build software with my mac products. They are by far the easiest products for me in terms of productivity. Im sorry that I am able to get more work done with a MacBook Pro and a paltry 16GB of ram. Im sorry if other people need to waste more resources than I to get their jobs done.

I like thinner laptops. The laptop I have with me is a laptop I can do work on anytime I get an idea.

chill out. You don't sound like you are "grossing 200k" - you will not spend a second here, preaching and calling somebody's decision to spend their own money "lemming" way. People earning 200+ don't give a damn about macrumors and Mac vs PC war. They are busy making money - if they need a computer to do things - they go and buy one -- the best for them to keep them earning money. You grow up, you will understand.

However, you are either a paid troll by competing PC companies, so you will keep this fight making sure this thread will float on top of other genuine questions from real users which actually make macrumors forum useless (but hey - money is all about web traffic not providing service - this is just an ad platform).

But honestly, you sound more like a frustrated person, who cannot (or barely) afford Mac and viciously rationalize against it - while secretly you are craving it. Teenager maybe?

Poor man. Use this time (out of this forum) to earn some good money that will give you real satisfaction in life.

For sake of experiment let's assume you are earning +200k. Let's make a simplified calculation of your net income. In Washington DC your "naked" take home (2016) will be around $10 000 per month (depending on martial status and state deductions etc.).

And you are debating over buying $2500 computer every 4 years?

Cost per month of such "expensive" machine is whopping $52 per month (you still have $9948 left). I think your time here trolling and offending people is more worth than new MacBook. Give it a break.

You got it wrong. He earns $200,00 p.A., thats $16,67 per month, but drives a $50,000 car, sound like he took a lot of credit to make this possible. Heheh, there is no more room for a MacBook Pro here, thats why he is so mad.

Not the person you quoted, but between home and work :
2 power extension cable, 1 charger block, one usb-c to usb (because easier on the go), one usb-c to lightning cable (same reason), one USB-C to ethernet, and 2 very expensive, crappy USB-C hub because I need HDMI output and some other crap which are permanently connected (HDD, keyboard).
About 4000 Norwegian kr, or 450 Euros. **** everything about that.

Not the guy you answered but ... Hmmf, seriously, paid troll ?!? That's the weak argument of losers.

Many long standing users are unhappy about this iteration. Here. On my Facebook. On My Twitter. Elsewhere on the internet. On Gruber's blog himself ( although for now he's mainly quoting some other guy).
Frankly this is a crappy argument you have there.

And personally, I live a comfortable life, but very much like that guy it doesn't mean I like or want to waste money. Or in this case, have my employer pay 4250$ for this 13" because I need to max it out so it's a tiny bit (but just a tiny bit) more pro, and buy a tons of adapters.
When a PC with a better screen, same thinness, and Kaby Lake, cost 2200$ and would not have me plug a bunch of retarded adapters...
