So... No white iPhone 4?

I just talked about the white iPhone 4 with an employee of o2 Germany (which start selling the iPhone 4 on 27th October and is my absolute favorite provider here in Germany) and he said that Apple has problems with the white iPhone 4 because, if you use GPS often, the area where the GPS antenna is, gets a brown color which is - logically - not possible on the black iPhone 4 because you just are not able to see it.

Weird, isn't it? Maybe the GPS antenna gets too hot?

interesting, would be good to know if people who have converted to white have noticed anything similar?

i doubt this is true though, pretty sure Apple wouldn't release something that did that!

Given the fact that Apple missed their first ETA by a long shot, something tells me that the "end of the year" date gives them plenty of time to (now) realistically get the things into mass production. So expect mid to late December folks!
 
Well, the white one showed up for pre-order on the App Store app for a couple of hours this morning, so I wonder if that whole "white Christmas" rumor was accurate.
 
Well... that settles it then, if this new delay is confirmed by Apple in an official statement, I will be getting the black iPhone 4 instead of the white one which I have been waiting for since June.

I just can't wait for the iPhone 5, my 2 year-old 3G is really outdated.

I feel like a total idiot waiting several months for nothing :mad:
 
If this turns out to be official, then thanks for dicking us around for months, Apple. Every single thing they have done with the white iPhone has been a complete cock up.

Just ***** yesterday they updated the Apple Store app and it had the white iPhone listed as an option, which it wasn't before. Obviously it wouldn't let you purchase it, but still, they are getting extremely sloppy over there.

Had they just came out in the beginning and said it wasn't going to be happening any time soon, people likely would not have been angry. Instead they announced dates that they missed and then gave some obscure "later this year" line that kept those interested in perpetual waiting only to now find out that they waited months for nothing.

Perhaps they need to spend a bit of that massive cash reserve they are sitting on to get their manufacturing sorted and to get things straightened up at corporate.
 
It's ridiculous :( if the statement is true then are you buying the black iPhone 4 instead? I don't know if i want to shell out £500 for something that I am not 100% happy with. Can't make my mind up, the black one doesn't sell itself to me.:(

You won't regret it one bit, it's a magnificent phone and you won't look back after having taken the plunge. Period. Full Stop.

This is very true i totally agree i sold my desire after having it 8 weeks in the anticipation of buying a white one... Not sold on the black one though yeah I'm pretty anal when it comes to the look of my devices :-\ know anywhere that change the phone to white in the uk?

I would have loved to get the white one but i figured that i was going to be covering up with a case anyway, and the performance and screen of the iPhone 4 more than makes up for the colour.

You will be very happy if you get black i assure as a former white iphone 3g and 3gs owner.

I'll end up getting the black one and I have thoughts of converting it.
But as we know, this voids the warranty.
IMO it's too risky :/
 
yeah i dont think i want to convert it as the whole reason its delayed is cause of color and maybe other reasons but there were issues since day one making it in white. black one it will be! have ordered my replacement micro sim with o2 :)

To be honest I really don't know what to believe at the moment.

Problems with the colors may be a quite serious problem for Apple, if this problem ever was existent, but there are some repair stores who are selling white parts and in my opinion I've never seen outstanding mismatched parts. And - four months for fixing a problem regarding color? I don't think so.

For me there are some possibilities:
1) The white iPhone 4 is delayed because Apple needs to produce enough of the black ones to calm most of the people ("black is more popular") and will release the white iPhone afterwards. And there may be some, or even many, people who are waiting for the white one - but most of the people don't care so much about the color and just buy the black one. In the end I feel quite weird that I wait so long only for a color, sometimes..

I've had the black one just at the beginning (with a contract) but experiencing the antenna issues, I was disappointed and on top I was having an expensive two year contract. When I read how to get a cheap and "Lock-free" iPhone from UK I just returned the black iPhone 4 and thought: "Okay, so now you can also wait for the sexy white one, too."

2) Apple is working on another, modified version of the iPhone 4 (antenna fix, new features, CDMA, whatever..) and will release this version along with the white one.

3) The white one is cancelled.

I just hope Apple will release it this year. Because of Christmas it is quite possible.. Christmas presents = $$$
But who knows.

It's clearly option 2. There are problems with the antenna in the current design, so they are redesigning it slightly. It's a load of rubbish that the colours don't match.
 
I waited for the white iPhone4 up until 3 weeks ago... I gave in and thought "Feck it! :mad:"

I was secretly hoping Apple would NOT release the white version any time soon, for obvious reasons.

This news makes me happy! :D

PS. I'm loving my black 4!

The general consensus around here seems to be the Speck Pixelskin HD for a slim case or the Speck Candyshell for better protection that adds a bit of thickness. The Incase Snap case seems to be popular as well.

For screen protectors the consensus seems to be on the Power Support Crystal.

That's what I get from a few days of browsing the iPhone Accessories board anyway.
