Sorry, I missunderstood. I thought you were asking if they are available as an upgrade.

The Radeon Pro Vega 16 and Radeon Pro 20 were announced at the October 30 event. They are currently not available options and are advertised as "New Options Coming Late November."
I’m not talking about Apple’s inclusion of them, I’m asking if these were available to *anyone
NO.

Just no.
Mine is A MONTH OLD.
I would've bought a VEGA if they announced that THIS EXACT SAME laptop would ship with vega A MONTH LATER.

ON TOP OF THAT, MY SCREEN FLICKERS. MY "i" RANDOMLY DOUBLES. MY LOGIC RANDOMLY CLICKS AND POPS.
AND IT WAS 5300€...

JUST NO.

There's no defending Apple anymore, that's ****** business practice
HERE ANOTHER DOUBLE I

edit:
tbh, if i knew it was so plagued with issues i wouldn't have bought one at all.
I literally dont know what to do - i don't have money for another god damn computer, i just bought this one and its plagued with issues.
If i wanted computer with issues I'd gone to Aldi and bought one for 250€ and wouldnt care about it.

I'm with you OP.

edit2:
I I'm

lol again

I'm just said i gave my 2012 away. Really, it fell on the floor and i spilled whiskey on it and it works better than this piece of **** - i have a keyboard cover which i take off everytime i close the lid, still, the "i" key broke. AMAZING ENGINEERING.
Your pissed Apple released an updated card as soon as it became available...when the card wasn’t available at the time of your purchase. That’s an interesting thing to be mad about.

You then “Gish Galloped” a ton of other stuff that has nothing to do with the timeline of availability of these cards.

Wow.

Take some time out to cool down, put the toys back in the pushchair etc.

When you're a little more relaxed - it's just a computer. It works as well as it did before the Vega was announced. You know that. This also isn't your first technology purchase either, so you know that new products get released. That's what happens. Products are announced, then new products come along. This isn't a new thing.

If you genuinely have issues with your current MBPro then that's another issue altogether. Totally separate. If you have issues with your MBPro then you can contact Apple and have them take a look. That's what the warranty is for.

I have issues with:
- apple updating it after it was one month old, because it's a damn expensive computer and I (and as well as a few other people) would jump on it if they announced it when it was supposed to be announced.
This is not a general upgrade, this is something this computer should've been shipped with in the first place - it was shipped with 2 year old tech that might be fine if you don't want to pay for an upgrade, but for people who were disappointed this is an insult.

- an updated one (which i would have bought) coming out before the current one is even working properly. If this one was working properly I'd might be less pissed, considering this one doesn't do a single thing right and it was *really* expensive I reserve the right to be piissed. I can't return it, i can't sell it (because it doesn't work) and because i spent the "new computer" budget on this one i can't buy a new one.

I don't really care what you think about it, this is not why you pay 5,3k for a computer - for shoddy business practices and abysmal support. I could've gotten that for way less money

They could've said "it's going to ship with Vega in November", they announced white iphone 4 on the date of the release and it literally NEVER came out. Give me a break.
This is the same machine, they added an option a lot of us would want "just a little later", conveniently first adopters are broken so they cant even be sold 2nd hand.

So no - I'm pissed at apple they didn't announce it.
It's a flagship professional laptop, not an iphone gadget...

iirc single malt Aberlour.

Your 2012 went down with great taste. An honorable ending.

You have the right to be pissed at whatever you want. You can be pissed off that it's raining if you like.

I would certainly be annoyed if the current one is not working correctly. I totally agree there.

As for the rest - that's what happens. Technology changes. Sorry man but Apple isn't likely to build their MacBook Pro strategy around your purchasing decisions. You can certainly email Tim and ask, but I wouldn't expect a favourable reply.

Technology DIDN'T CHANGE.

Vega is 1 year old architecture, Radeon 500 is 2-3 year old architecture.

I totally get that it couldn't be shipped at the time 2018 mbps were announced, but NOTHING was ready at the time 2018 macbook pros were announced.

A lot of us would've waited for the vega upgrade if they announced it when it came out - its a 5,3k machine, its not competing in the popularity market vs samsung for teenagers.

Nobody would be pissed if apple said "here are the 2018 mbps, if you want vega wait till november", vega didnt come out last week.

It’s actually not a common practice for something to get updated after a few months, I’d bet most companies hold off putting features in early to avoid this very situation.

For example, if I bought the new Air today and 2 months down the line it got a 15w Whiskey Lake option, well colour me angry.

You’ll never see this happening with iPhones or pretty much any Apple product, this is probably a first!

No, annoyed because i would have waited and bought a vega, now i have a machine i cant sell and replace or return.
It's a 5,3k premium machine that works WORSE and less reliable than my old 2012 15" retina.

iMac Pros were announced and unavailable, Mac Pros have been announced and unavailable, yet for the MacBook Pros, they release it 4 months later the way that it should be released when it was announced.

EVERY PRO MACHINE was announced with apple in that manner, they completely botched the 2018 MacBook Pro release.

They had no trouble with announcing it two days ago "avaliable in two weeks", they could've announced like that 4 months ago.

edit:
I'm an apple fanboy, but you guys are ridiculous.
This doesn't happen with premium brands anywhere. That's not why you pay so much for them.

Even if Apple let all of you guys return your 2018's you just bought now...what would you all use until end of November when the Vega's even come out?

since i already have my 2012 retina to my gf,

quadcore 16gb mac mini for 600€ on a local market.

It's not like i can use this one normally. anyway.

You’re saying APPLE was supposed to announce a card that AMD had not yet announced?

Forgive me if I have the timeline wrong on that, but if not...you don’t do that in business.

According to Anandtech, AMD literally just announced the card at the same time Apple did:
Announced by AMD at the same time, we now have confirmation that AMD’s missing mobile GPU is finally shipping. It will be arriving first as the Radeon Pro Vega 20 and Radeon Pro Vega 16, upgradable graphics options for the 15-inch MacBook Pro set to become available next month.”

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13532/amds-vega-mobile-lives-vega-pro-20-16-in-november

You’re mad about pure nonsense.

Right lol, because Apple who is in close relationship with AMD recieves GPU news from Anandtech?

Give me a break.

I swear to god... You guys are worse than apple

https://www.engadget.com/2013/06/10/apple-mac-pro-2013-redesign/?guccounter=1

Mac Pro announced, available couple of months later.

They could've released 2018 MBP and announced "COMING WITH A BETTER GPU OPTION LATER THIS YEAR"

https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/5/1...-announced-price-specs-release-date-wwdc-2017

iMac Pro ANNOUCNED IN JUNE, SHIPPING IN DECEMBER.

I'd say it would cost apple 0,00$ to announce a better GPU in Jul, but obviously it would cost them quite some money that they ripped from now frustrated users.

It's completely normal to announce PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS IN ADVANCE.

Why is this such a big suprirse to you I DONT KNOW

I think the point being made is that the mobile version of the Vega chips was not even available to put into the 2018 MBPs at the time of the release.
Also, if your machine is having so many problems go get it serviced, under warranty. Stop saying how angry you are about the issues plaguing your current laptop and go do something about it.
Once it’s fixed you can sell it and get the new MBP with a Vega chip.
Problem solved.

see up.
Mac Pro announced in summer 2013, it was available early 2014 in europe.
iMac Pro announced june 2016, available december 2016 for purchase.

They could've announced "a better GPU" as they frequently announce professional products that aren't immediately available for purchase.

I. Don't. Want. Service.
I want a machine that works, its a month old, I don't want someone dicking around in it. I want it WORKING FROM THE BOX. BECAUSE IT COST 5 GRAND. ITS AS COSTLY AS LAPTOPS COME.

I've been with apple support on the phone for literally THREE WEEKS, because i missed return day for *one friggin day* and they told me to go to my retailer who told me to call Apple. I sent them diagnostic dumps, sent them videos of issues, and THEY DID NOTHING.

IVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR THREE WEEKS.

I did NOT PAY 5K fOR A COMPUTER FOR SUCH A SHODDY SERVICE

Your information about apple annoucing professional products and then making them available at a later date is exactly what apple did. Announced new MBPs on Oct 30th but not available until November so your claims don’t really hold up there.

Second, I am purplexed that apple is giving you a hard time with getting your MBP serviced. I once had a 2008 MBP who’s screen would flicker, and apple had it serviced and fixed in no time.

As Apple get bigger, it’ll be harder to have the same level of customer service (cost reasons). I can notice the difference today vs 5 years ago.

I had to wipe it, do a sysdump and they still didn't issue a service under warranty or replacement, and because i live in a **** country apple wouldn't honor the "replacement during first month of purchase" only 14 days.

I had so much down time because of this laptop its ridiculous.

and audio issues i can't even prove, since I can't even open the projects in vanilla logic and despite the fact that they work fine on 2012 Retina MBP 15" on the exact same config (a clone of the sys drive from the 2018) apple wont acknowledge it has issues.

I can't record with this laptop because it has dropouts and every other take is ruined... It's ridiculous.

I have a 5,3k € worth machine i can't use to full potential. (or even as i used my old 2012)

I want a replacement/cashback on day 15 since purchase, but couldn'T get it. I talked with apple support since then and I got like 3 mails "can we call you today?" to which i replied "yes anytime" and got call 2 days later.

As far as announcing new MBPs: they didn't announce new MBPs. They announced and released them in summer. These are the exact same MBPs with a GPU option, because the first batch shipped with the 2year old GPU which is the same as the last gen had.

edit: If this computer actually worked as it was supposed to I guess I'd be way less pissed about Vega, but the vega is just a salt on the wound at this point. I literally want to cry because I don't know what the hell am i supposed to do. 5,3k is like 5 average pay-checks in my country.

I'm beyond disappointed

I agree, it's not common, but if Apple has an opportunity to improve the product and feels like they will benefit, it would be absurd not to do so. That is the case here, it appears.

When you buy a laptop you're not buying some sort of guarantee of latest-and-greatestness. It could be a day. It could be 4 years or whatever it was for the Mini. Ultimately new things get released and it's not worth getting so butthurt over. In my opinion anyway.

My advice for you is to keep hounding apple care service and insist on having your laptop repaired.

I’m saying that I bet Apple had many opportunities to improve their products early but decided to hold off to not upset purchasers. It’s a common thing many companies do, it’s really not a good idea to shaft early adopters. This is an industry wide thing, heck even happens with games. I have seen other companies do it and got a backlash from their customers - to the effect of them swearing not to buy from said company.

No one said Apple gave a guarantee, it is just not good business practice made obvious by the fact that it leaves lots of customers unhappy.

560X is two year old GPU and its essentially identical to the GPU in the 2017 model...

And yes, when you bought an apple laptop anytime in the last 10 years, you literally bought it with a guarantee for the latest and greatest for at least a while. That and great support.

Now you get none of either. But it still costs an arm and a leg.
Actually, my 2018 cost 2k more than my 2012... And everything about it is garbage

I' m trying.. (space is acting up too lately)

I don't want it repaired - it had the same issues since it was new, i want it replaced, not repaired. If you buy a new car and it doesn't drive you don' t get it serviced, you take it back.

Apple will never replace your laptop unless it has to be serviced for the same thing 3 or more times.
However, if your computer needs a new keyboard apple replaces the whole bottom case (keyboard, trackpad, battery, motherboard, etc). In effect you are essentially getting a new laptop.
Work with what options you have.

It has the same issues since it was *brand new out of the box*, they cannot expect me to have a 5,3k machine serviced that came in non-working condition stock.

I lost X amount of hours with apple support and having to deal with this crap, and X amount of hours of work because its not working properly.
It was way too expensive to have any excuses for that. I won't expect an "essentially" new laptop, i want a new laptop that works, tomorrow.

Or they lose a costumer, and probably 10 more every year (since I teach and advice my students what system to use)
