It has the same issues since it was *brand new out of the box*, they cannot expect me to have a 5,3k machine serviced that came in non-working condition stock.

I lost X amount of hours with apple support and having to deal with this crap, and X amount of hours of work because its not working properly.
It was way too expensive to have any excuses for that. I won't expect an "essentially" new laptop, i want a new laptop that works, tomorrow.

Or they lose a costumer, and probably 10 more every year (since I teach and advice my students what system to use)
Why not just buy a windows laptop and save the money?

People would be pissed if Apple held off 4 months in releasing new laptops. Now people are pissed that Apple didn't release new laptops 4 months ago without something that didn't exist.

Are you pretending to not understand things? none of the pro machines were released as they were announced.
They could've announced "a better graphic chip coming on november" when they announced it in summer.
That's what they've been doing with all their professional machines for half a decade.

Apple knew GPUs existed, they work closely with AMD.

Or do you think AMD developed these in a week?

Right lol, because Apple who is in close relationship with AMD recieves GPU news from Anandtech?

Give me a break.

I swear to god... You guys are worse than apple

https://www.engadget.com/2013/06/10/apple-mac-pro-2013-redesign/?guccounter=1

Mac Pro announced, available couple of months later.

They could've released 2018 MBP and announced "COMING WITH A BETTER GPU OPTION LATER THIS YEAR"

https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/5/1...-announced-price-specs-release-date-wwdc-2017

iMac Pro ANNOUCNED IN JUNE, SHIPPING IN DECEMBER.

I'd say it would cost apple 0,00$ to announce a better GPU in Jul, but obviously it would cost them quite some money that they ripped from now frustrated users.

It's completely normal to announce PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS IN ADVANCE.

Why is this such a big suprirse to you I DONT KNOW
Listen buddy, you’re right to be pissed about the issues your having.

The point of this thread, allegedly (before you started ranting about a history of issues that bug you), was about the release date of new GPU chips that literally were not available in October. If AMD didn’t want to announce them at the time what in the world was Apple supposed to do? You honestly wanted Apple to break news that AMD was not ready to do. That’s an amazing way to look at business.

I sincerely hope your machine issues get sorted out. All the other stuff you just threw at the wall, however, made it seem like you just wanted to rant.

How many times was Apple burned by Intel because they were promised new chips in a few months, only to be waiting a year. Why should Apple make a promise it can't control.

Because I can't get my money back.

This is not a 500€ laptop, this is a laptop which costs 2x as much as a PC counterpart, and part of the cost is superior support and reliability, part of the cost is certainly not being ****ed over.

Actually, they could release 4 months ago, with a note to say feature x will come later, with or without an ETA.

Some laptops already do this, eg the 4K option or HDR screens aren’t available but they let the customer know at time of purchase when they expect it to come. The customer can then decide if they either need it, or want to wait for it - the choice is there.

If it is the case that this dGPU blindsided them, I guess that’s unfortunate. I would however have thought they knew it was coming. That way many people would probably still buy the machine, and no one would be upset.

Technology is always changing. You always run a risk that what you buy will be obsolete in a month.

Oh yeah I wanted to rant.

Ma2k5 put it way more eloquently than I can because I 'm to pissed, so i'm just going to quote him on the issue:

I’m saying that I bet Apple had many opportunities to improve their products early but decided to hold off to not upset purchasers. It’s a common thing many companies do, it’s really not a good idea to shaft early adopters. This is an industry wide thing, heck even happens with games. I have seen other companies do it and got a backlash from their customers - to the effect of them swearing not to buy from said company.

No one said Apple gave a guarantee, it is just not good business practice made obvious by the fact that it leaves lots of customers unhappy.

Oh my god.
Vega Pro 16 and 20 are 14nm process chips, they arent NEW, they are GCN5 and have been out FOR A YEAR.

If you don't know what you are talking about then just don't.
[doublepost=1541106766][/doublepost]
Is Apple required to tell you what products they have 4 months down the road? When has Apple ever done this in their history?
When they announced iMac Pro in summer 2016 and Mac Pro in summer 2013.

So why did you buy the laptop if you know they had these other chips? Obviously you didn't want the machine you bought if you wanted something better.

So twice in their 40 plus year history?

Because apple *never* in the history of the macbook updated only GPU after 4 months of initial release, and they always announced a professional product months before it was available for purchase.

The fact that such chips existed (so did GTX 1050 and GTX 1060) doesn't mean apple would've used them inside their laptops.

edit: And no, I wasn't happy with 560X and if apple had *announced* better GPU options (like they announced iMac Pro or Mac Pro) at the time i would have waited another few months for a better dGPU

I believe these are BTO options only, so it's not really an update. You can't just walk into the Apple store and say you want these new machines.

Yes, exactly... It's not an update, they never ever "updated" a MacBook in such a manner...

Actually Vega 16 and 20 were announced on Oct 30th...

The Vega architecture has been around for a year, but no mobile variant existed.

Apple has been working closely with AMD for quite some time tho...
So Apple is supposed to delay their whole product line 4 months until these things were released? And even then who knows if they get released on time.

Imagine the ********* we would be hearing about with such a delay.

No, they would only need to delay the BTO option for the minority of people like me who bought the souped up BTOs.

Did you mean to quote me?
More of an agreement with you about your post.

also if you think apple was able to cram a new chip in one week - as in, they announced it on 30th of october and apple checked the AMD page and said "hey we can use that"?

ugh...

They did delay the BTO option until it was ready.

But they didn't announce it, effectively screwing over anyone who wouuld have gotten such a BTO.

Do they have a right to announce another companies unreleased product? That would be like AT&T announcing the new iPhone during the summer.

Apple had 2 options, hold off the whole line for 4-5 months or break NDA and announce a chip they don't have authority to make public.

Are you seriously implying apple doesn't have a close relationship and deals with AMD?
And they didn't even have to announce it by name; they only had to announce "a more powerful GPU BTO option coming in november" - that's all they had to do - and every decent company that has decent business conduct does so.
