what do people think this is the jesus phone that it must absolutely take perfect pictures each and every time otherwise it's flawed? i can't believe you're complaining about a purple flare on what is pretty much a flawless picture. have you guys tried taking pictures at night with the iphone 5? I'm surprised you guys are not complaining more about the picture quality at night.

They expect a phone to make up for poor photography skills.

Amateur photography lesson 1. Don't photograph against a lightsource. Try to have the lightsource behind you instead.

Upload the photo to: www.imgur.com :)

I can also get a purple haze on my iPhone 4. Although it doesn't appear as apparent as what's been taken with the iPhone 5 in that photo and the 4s realeric posted.

Hey Realeric,

You do not know me; with your off the cuff - knee jerk response I do not want to know you!

This issue has just hit the web in the last two days; I have an iPhone on order, and I just purchased my first MBP 15".

Trolling, you do not even understand the definition of trolling if the fact that someone shows concern about an issue and raises the question - not in public on a mixed forum - but on a clearly Apple/Mac oriented forum.

BTW, what does you saved image prove? That you like to save images others including me would have discarded for obvious reasons?

Geesh!

Truth. Don't shoot into lights or the sun. Don't shoot with the sun directly over head. Do shoot hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Only show your very absolute best of the best shots.

Never had this problem on any of my iPhones. Am I holding it wrong? Tried to replicate this effect.

The light source has to be just outside the frame of the shot. You'll actually be able to see the purple in the "viewfinder"

Even putting it on the edge of either side, top or bottom still not getting it. Not to say its impossible but I have not seen it or been able to replicate it

Might be the wrong type of light. Are those compact flourescents or incandescent?

This is unbelivable garbage.

The iPhone 4 didn't have this issue.

The iPhone 4S had this exact issue and nobody ever complained. Ever. After a year.

The iPhone 5 has the exact same issue the iPhone 4S has.

It's crazy how ridiculous people are.

This is called lens flare, even my $50,000 80 megapixel Phase One medium format camera system has lens flare. Should I return that and buy a plastic disposable camera in that case?

I'm not complaining. I couldn't care less. Mellow the eff out.

There are at least two other threads already discussing this issue.

Doesn't anyone use Search anymore? They even have the word purple in the title.

if i could figure out how to post a picture here i would show you how bad the purple flare is on my galaxy s2

You can use external sites such as IMGUR and then use the tags to embed photos, or attach a photo under 'additional options'

INSTAGRAM FIXES EVERYTHING <--- Probably what they do.
That or just don't take pictures of the sun or a lightbulb. Moving over a few cm or tiling the angle slightly will also work, but yes, have the light source behind you if possible

I can make it happen if I try (I know the exact conditions needed to cause the purple effect) however 99.9% of my photos are PERFECT.

Oh and with my 4S I has a similar effect. If I held the camera towars the sun for example I would get red circular artifacts rather than purple.

Neither bother me as they are just different kinds of lens flair, and depending on the photo they can actually make it a little more interesting I think.
