I want a 1" screen in my pocket, 4" when in one hand and 8" with both hands. Also the OP' poll doesn't cover aspic ratio which is also integral with size.;)

I constantly upgrade, the longest I've kept one is about 6 months and the shortest 2 weeks. LOL Just the month, I bought 4 Super Phones (16GB Samsung Galaxy Note White LTE & Pebble Blue S3, hTc One X and Galaxy Nexus.) I had every Size going all the way back to Nokia & Motorola, to BlackBerry to iPhone 3GS to the Note.

I had the Note before I bought the other three and I never had a problem carrying/using it. As I said on the other thread, I rarely see users Talking since Texting took over and with Bluetooth, you don't have to hold it up.

But then the S3 came out with 4.8", which I also love so it's a toss up for me. I guess it's between 4.8" to 5.3". :)

Your smartphone credentials border on pathological. However, the fact that you have a Blackberry Playbook negates any credibility your input would have.

My Galaxy S3 fits BETTER in my pocket than the iPhone 4S. It's much lighter and thinner and only a little larger. The iPhone felt like a brick in my pocket. Now with the S3 I sometimes have to feel my pocket to make sure my phone is stll in there, because I barely notice it. This is true. I put a case on it to purposely make it a bit heavier so I wasn't feeling in my pocket as much. :)

If you haven't tried an S3 yet, you don't know what something like an S3 ACTUALLY feels like in your pocket. That said, because Apple likes to make there phones with much heavier materials than the light plastic used by most Androids, a 4.8" iPhone would probably be substantially bulkier than the Galaxy S3.

Boy, I'm so glad I switched for so many reasons. It'll be 3+ years before Apple gets screen size right.

You're behaving as if they don't prototype other sizes

3.5 is just wright. Anything larger and it feels too bulky in my pocket. And it doesn't look like I'm holding a tablet to my head.

Simply asking preferred screen size is no longer acceptible as far as I am concerned. It must be a combination of screen size AND aspect ratio.

All those people who whine that they want a phone that actually fits in their pocket need to go find someone who has a phone in the 4.3-4.8" screen range and actually try putting it in their pocket. Then come back here and tell us all about how to their surprise it actually did fit in their pocket and much better than they originally thought.

The problem is that we are at a point where because of the surge of smartphones with larger screens, there are some of us who prefer to move to a larger screen and some of us who are content with the current 3.5-4" range. One logical way to solve this problem is for Apple to offer phones with different screen sizes. Unfortunately, I think we all will agree that Apple will never do this.

In the meantime, myself and many others are finding ourselves paying closer attention what else is out there. I love my iDevices, but eventually my desire for a device with a larger display may outweigh my personal benefits to stay within the ecosystem.

Luckily I have the iPhone 4S and still have another year to see what Apple and others do during that time.

My iPhone just squeezes into my fanny pack for running. There is no way a larger phone would fit (including a 1.78 4" iPhone and will have to buy a new larger fanny pack). Also I find the overall size of the current iPhone in my pocket (not just fit) to be a little large/heavy but tolerable. As far as pocket fit goes if you ever carried a Startac (15 years ago) you would know that todays phones are true behemoths in your pocket. Almost seems like several steps backwards in portability.

You ever think that maybe a smartphone just isn't for you?

To the issue of size and weight: The iphone is a heavy little square brick and you feel it in your pocket. Try even a bit larger phone by any other manufacturer. It will generally be thinner, lighter and have curved sides so it fits even better in your pocket.

I've always said that Apple would be crazy to make the heavy, squarish iPhone larger, since it will feel even worse in your pocket. Not so most of the other smartphones out there.

The galaxy nexus is a great size for me but I don't see Apple making the iPhone screen that big.

You can get a phone even smaller than your StarTac with more features. Prblem is, it sounds like you want a smartphone. A dumb phone should be compared to a dumb phone. A smartphone, at this point, is closer to a computer.

FWIW I often dream of how nice it would be to go back to a small, lightweight flip phone. Then I reember that I use the internet, play music, use navigation, etc. on my smartphone. You mentioned you with with your iPhone. I assume you listen to music? If so, you are already doing more, every time you run, than you ever did on the startac.

I really prefer the 4.8" of the galaxy s3. I bought this for my wife (upgraded from an iPhone 4). If the iPhone 5 is only 4", I'll switch.

Very truthfully, even my 4.8" S3 is felling a little small after a few weeks use. I'm looking forward to the 5.5" Galaxy Note 2 - with a 16x9 aspect ratio instead of 16x10. If that had 64GB internal and a 128 GB microSD card came out at the same time, I would be in phone heaven for the first time in my life. :D

Guys

A huge phone is what women pull out of their handbag. It's not a man's phone.
You may think it's cool but in reality every other man is laughing inside at you and your ridiculous phone.

Just a fair bit of warning.

For me, 4.3-4.5. No more, no less.

People who judge others by phone size (c'mon really? based on a phone?) are not worth caring for.

Yup no more than 4.5" for me and I'm fine with 4" at the small size.

He it wasn't me. I just remember a co-worker laughing at a guy that pulled a Galaxy Note out and started making a call. He said it was a woman's phone and I thought about it and realized that the majority of GN that I've seen have been used by women. Likely because they often have handbags which can easily carry a large phone.

Not trying to be overly sexist but we'll see how this trend of HUGE phones plays out.

Yes, because, if nothing else, history has shown time and again that women prefer big and bulky things while men migrate towards the dainty.

Actually, that is sort of true haha.

I see tons of women using notes. However many males are using galaxy non-note phones though.
