I will not be able to resist a retina display; as retina looks like become reality my wallet become thinner as soon Apple Store open at launch day

I'm enjoying the iPad 1 and iPad 2 I have. Just a few days ago, I was all set to buy the upcoming iPad 3. However that has now changed.

Based on the latest comments from Tim Cook about the direction Apple is headed, the announcement of the rather early release of Mountain Lion, and my less than exciting experience with Lion, I have lost most of my enthusiasm.

While certainly not surprised, I was under the general impression that Apple would spend a few years engineering the convergence of iOS & OS X. Now it seems based on several articles I've read in the last two days, that Apple is racing towards a single OS across all devices and computers.

Less is more may be Apples new mantra.

And that makes a difference how? The iPad is an iOS device to begin with, it's not as if you're all of a sudden going to be stripped of loads of features. I don't know why you believe the introduction of Mountain Lion will impinge on your enjoyment of an iPad.

I will. I currently do not have an iPad, so the 3 is a natural choice. I want to replace a bulky laptop I use mainly for IM and web surfing.

I may also pick up an iPhone 4S in April, moving away from DroidX. It depends on the rumor mill for the iPhone 5 and a rough ETA on arrival.. I may just wait for the 5. :)

A tablet isn't a replacement for your laptop, even though you only im or surf
You'll miss flash player and the dear keyboard

This will be my first iPad, I been saving since August putting Notes and Gold coins ONLY in my sealed tin that needs to be opened with a tin opener lol! I have absolutely no idea how much is in it

I need to do this lol.

I am actually torn between an ipad3+bluetooth keyboard combination and a MBA. However, I will likely be getting the ipad3, rationale being that I already have an imac at home and a school-issued laptop when working, so an ipad would likely see more use than an additional laptop. In addition, I am gravitating towards the ipad's likely superior battery life and form factor. :)

The fact that I can transfer my paid iphone apps to my ipad is also another bonus! :D

Me (current iPad 1 will serve as kitchen tablet). But I am more excited about iOS 6 as Tim Cook said that iPad would soon fill the need for ARM-based MBA. It means that iOS 6 and iPad3 will probably focus on content creation.

I keep wanting to want an iPad and the 3, if it offers some of the things we're hearing, will have the best shot at getting me to commit. But I'm still torn. I love my MBA (2011, 13" base model).

It's super fast, has a great screen, is light (compared to my 07 mbp tank or even my wife's 2011 mbp which seems significantly slower too I might add) and has good battery life - I get at least 5-7 hours of use regularly.

I just have a hard time seeing how I could really USE the iPad the way I use my mba. Even doing what I'm doing now - blowing some time on the forums, typing responses, is so easy and seamless on the Air, but on an iPad requires more effort to hold and type on the screen, or get a keyboard and stand, making it seem like you're trying to make it a laptop. I do see value and use for the iPad in giving presentations, proposals, etc that I've created on my Air, but the Air isn't exactly cumbersome to use either.

Frankly, I would like to see Apple offer more sizes of iPad, kind of like how things played out with the iPod. It's fine to go down to 7" or 8", but I'd be really interested in seeing a bigger screen, like that of my 13" Air (although the proportions would need to change). I realize it would start to get even heavier, but I would think that as tech improves, the weight could be better managed.

The idea is that I have a tablet when I need one and a makeshift laptop when I would prefer one. I am not really what you would call a "power user", so I would not really need the hefty computing power of a tricked'out MBA. The occasional time I need to use a program like imovie or adding the finishing touches to my report, I can fall back on my imac, what with icloud/dropbox making transfer of documents fairly seamless.

So for responding to forums/lengthy emails/typing of documents etc, I would use the keyboard. But for more casual uses such as simple checking of mail, surfing of internet, reading of documents, I could just detach the ipad from the stand and use it the way it was meant to be used.

I have had experience using both and find that on buses and trains, the ipad just feels more comfortable on my lap than a laptop whose screen doesn't even open all the way anyways. :)

Will get the 3 ONLY if it has a better outside camera because i like to shoot with my ipad. I sold my ipad 1 for the 2 and now will sell my 2 for the 3.

I have no clue how you came to the conclusion you stated. At no time did I say anything to indicate your assumption. I made my point very clearly.

You said that your lack of enthusiasm for the iPad 3 more or less coincided with the news regarding Mountain Lion.

I don't understand how the introduction of Mountain Lion could cause you to become immediately disenfranchised with the still-to-be-released iPad3, and Apple in general, given that you already own two iPads, and ML isn't available to anyone besides developers?

Sorry but why do you use the ipad camera. Find it ridiculous, you look ridiculous and the quality is well garbage (even if it is improved, its still going to be rubbish)...

I'm getting one.

I will be standing in line for it! Just got my iPad 2 in November but am planning to use it for my kids and grab the 3 for me.

I have never actually stood in line on launch day; I know every city is different, so if I talk to some employees at my local Apple store and ask how last launch for the iPad was and how early they think I should arrive, do you think they'd be likely to have good info? I'd love to be able to at least work half the day (if it launches at 5pm) and go at noon...

I'll be buying mine! I waited in line on launch day for both my iPhones...I'm gonna try not to do that with the iPad. If there are preorders I'll do that, but if there aren't I may have to line up at my local best buy...

Changing an expensive device like an iPad2 yearly is waste of money..my next buy will be a new computer
