No plan to upgrade my wifi 64G iPad 2.

() I find the iPad 2 screen resolution perfectly acceptable. Don't plan to do microsurgery using the iPad. iOS won't allow multiple windows on the same screen or true multitasking and even if it did, a 10" screen is no place to do such work and I don't plan to carry around a microscope as an accessory.

() Faster processor and/or more RAM? Again, overkill for my uses, for the tablet form factor, and for the limitations imposed by iOS.

() More storage? I currently use about half of 60 gigs available on my iPad 2. Doubling the storage (as some rumors suggest) wouldn't be a benefit for me.

() Built-in 4G/LTE? Even if that is available, I already have it with a mobile hotspot that supports the iPad as well as my laptop and Kindle Fire.

All in all, I think the iPad 3 may be a step forward for those who try to use the iPad as a laptop replacement. But at least for me it will still fall far short of meeting that requirement. Just too many things it won't do and a form factor that is far too limiting.

So for me, at least, it comes down to spending several hundred dollars (or more) purely for the retina display eye candy. Not tempting.

Bought my Ipad 2 a week before Christmas for $399 at TJ Maxx..Selling it for $350 today so I should only have to spend about $150 to get the new one.

Ipad replacement

I'll still keep my first gen iPad since I am planning to upgrade my iPhone 4 to the 5th generation. I am sure iPad 4 will be even more awe inspiring and amazing:D

easy choice for me to upgrade. i make heavy use of the ipad as an ereader, and i think the characters right now are too blurry (yes, i have good eyesight). really looking forward to higher ppi. faster processor and more ram will be nice too for pdfs.

I actually can't think of any good reason to go for a 3 over my 2. My 2 is purely a consumption device and even at that, it is used infrequently at best. So no reason for me to upgrade at this point.

I've found this too. I had problems reading from the screen on my original unibody 15" MacBook Pro. Turns out it was due to the pixel density and the way OSX renders fonts.

I've since moved to a 17" and I don't have the same problem. Same thing with the current iPad screens, I don't find it easy to read from for long periods, so I'm really looking forward to this display upgrade.

It's hard to believe that I only bought my first Apple product 3 years ago (iPod touch) and now I'm totally hooked!

It's what Apple is very good at doing. They get you with their entry level products and then you start to escalate up the chain for more of their products. Drug dealers have the same sales method ;)

So what would entice you to buy the new iPad if retina display, faster processor, better camera, new design isn't doing it for you. Please let us know what would be an upgrade worthy device in your eyes.... teleporting ability?

You almost sound upset. Why? The post asked us to answer the question "will you upgrade? And why? And I answered that question. Relax dude. The biggest issue is price. The cheapest iPad is $500. And smart cover and decent back cover that works witht the smart cover is another $100. $600 total is a lot of money. If it isn't for you than great, buy me a new iPad 3 when it comes out.

Nope.

I was waiting for the iPad3 before getting an iPad. But I won an iPad2 at work on Halloween.
Granted I never paid for my iPad (except the $100+/- for my costume build) but I figure the family can wait until the next release.

Going to keep the two ... Maybe pick up an unlocked Samsung note as my toy for this year.

Definitely not upgrading. I own an iPad 2 for almost a year and I still love it like day 1! Paying 600 euro for more ppi doesn't seem right to me ;) if you own iPad 2 , the iPad 4 would be a much better purchase.

Not a chance for me , I got mined 64gb AT&T 3G on Christmas from my fiancé and on the back it says "I love you with all my heart" so even if the new one prints money I will be sticking with the 2 for awhile. :D

Buy a 3, engrave the same thing on the back of it and give the 2 to your fiancé. Nothing says I love you like a hand-me-down iPad.

I just actually purchased an original iPad off ebay for a good price. I owned an iPad 2 at once but was forced to sell it. So now I'm back but with an older version, and I'm sure it'll be fine.

If not, the price I bought it for will allow me to sell it for much more and make a profit. I can then use that money to hopefully put a dent into a new one.

I know people who have an iPad 1 and 2 and don't really notice a HUGE enough difference to matter. I couldn't care any less about the cameras since my 4S has a much better camera. I will miss Smart Covers though, those were handy.

Still happy with my ipad 1. No need for a camera, and I am pretty happy with the graphics. Maybe if they really bring out an ipad mini i would be a bit interested.

If that's what you do then it's a wonder you're still in one piece  Maybe he should buy the 3 for her and then borrow it all the time. It may lead to arguments, but at least he'll still have his manhood.

I don't give a hooties cow what you do but you said it "didn't seem all that impressive." I asked a simple question that you didn't answer. What would make it a worthy upgrade? Maybe I can get an answer this time? Or don't, no skin off my buttock.

im not too sure either, but what the heck, i always end up getting one anyway :D

Pricing cut in half, that would do it.

Had my iPad 2 since launch and definitely won't be upgrading it until at least 4th gen. Retina will be superb, made such a difference to the iPhone 4, but for how I use it the iPad 2 does, and will still do everything I need from it.

Plus I just spent a shedload of cash on repairing my MBP.
So will save the pennies to upgrade my iPhone 4 to an iPhone5/whatevertheycallit in the summer. Of the two, I'd expect it'll be more of a major upgrade.

Also have had my iPad 2 WiFi since (near) launch and have not plan to upgrade. It was fairly clear that by the iPad 4 (iPad 3 soonest) that a Retina display would be coming to the device. There for while nice

Also since this will be the first run of mass production of this quality of display I'd rather wait a year or so till they get the fabrication process stable and the display production quality reliable. That's for the Retina.

Personally, given some of the technologies coming up in the new few years the iPad 4 or 5 will have some serious upgrade points that will make them a better value. Haptic displays, 802.11ac WiFi, general improvement of hardware, bunch of stuff. The iPad 2 is still a rather robust device and on an individual App bases is still not quite getting tapped out (save some games). Retina is nice and I'd like better cameras, but I'd rather pass that up for an even better upgrade a year later.

I'll be keeping the iPad 2 for my wife, but I most likely won't upgrade until the new iPhone drops so I can purchase both the iPhone & iPad in black.

current ipad2 owner, i won't be buying an ipad3 unless it has all of these in order of importance:

1) equal or better battery life to the ipad2
2) 1GB of RAM
3) 'retina' display

a lot of people have said if #3 is true, they're buying the new ipad but without an increase to the RAM, then you're player a sucker bet because it's questionable how future-proof the ipad3 will be.

the long battery life is a big factor for me because it's one of the most important aspects of how i use my ipad.

i'm pretty happy and extremely productive with my JB'd 5.0.1. if they can only fixe the battery drain issue, i am more than happy to skip an ipad3 release if it doesn't have the 3 upgrades that i listed.
