I think you have things straight, but just to clarify: Apple's new generation of MacBooks will likely have the same pricing as the current generation does now.

When a new generation is released, generally the recently-outdone last gen models go to the refurb store.

Perfect. Thank you. That's what I was hoping that the recently-outdone last gen models would go to the refurb store being a bit cheaper than they are now. I'm not looking for the new processor just waiting for a price reduction on what's out now. Thank you again.

I'm somewhat waiting. I won't be buying my Macbook until late august (before going back to college), whether it's updated or not. I wouldn't complain about an update, but I do like the current black Macbook as well :)

Wow i'm in the same predicament as you. Except i'm really looking forward to an update; especially if its going to be a design change in the macbook.

im playing. with rumors circulating, updates imminent, and no immediate need, i will wait. redesign would be sweet. july 15th (day after montevina) and september 16th (day after back to school promo ends) are tuesdays. just thoughts.

so if this comes out after the back to school promotion, we won't get free iPods anymore? not to sound cheap but i was really looking forward to getting an iPod touch

also does anyone think/know the new macbooks might have Blu-Ray drives?

The only possibility for a blu-ray drive would be in the Macbook Pros but seeing as they don't have them in the Mac Pro we probably won't see them in the macbook pros for a while. To me this seems like it's something that will take a few generations between when the Macbook Pro gets it and the Macbook gets it.

Wouldn't rule it out, but seems highly unlikely. Why should Apple continue to pass out the candy when they've finished up their main aim, i.e., clearing out inventories? Also, there'll be plenty of us desparados who will gleefully whip out credit card to get the latest and greatest--no incentive like an iPod thrown in the deal will be needed.

I'm starting a new teaching job in the fall so me plan is to buy a macBook this summer. Since I don't need it right now I'll wait until August and then buy whatever is available. I would like to get the free ipod as right now I'm the only family member without one and it will come in handy for my commute.

My guess is late July-early August for an update.
