So Will You Bother Upgrading Your iPhone?

it will be released on a tuesday withing 6 weeks of wwdc, so possibly june 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, july 7th, 14th, or the 21st. my guess is the 30th or the 7th, possibly the 14th.

every body is saying iPhone 4G, its not the fourth generation iPhone and we dont have 4G wireless yet... i think it will be iPhone 2009. maybe we should just call it iPhone 3rd Gen. any ideas on the name?

Exactly. I upgraded to the 3G because my 2G was a present, and I needed more than 8 GB fopr music. I'm fine holding onto my 3G for another year. There's always something new coming out, and besides, I like keeping my devices, selling them implies that I no longer care for them.
 
How can you POSSIBLY make a decision before you know the actual specs?

I plan on upgrading my iPhone to 3.0... other than that... I'm not sure yet. I'm still rockin' my first gen (today at least).

2 years with the same phone, time to upgrade. Besides, I have started to flirt with my 3G data card, and seeing that same potential in my phone has been tempting.

btw i have to ask, how do you know it will be on a tuesday?
 
I will only upgrade if-

Good camera, one that can actually be used to take pictures that are clear when printed at 4x6.

Faster processor

Good video recording that wont pixelate when played on the computer
 
I think there's a good chance there will be something worthwhile. I'm in the same dilemma myself. However, even yet another iteration of classic Apple industrial design would be enough for me to upgrade.

You never know. It may just be a 32GB chip an extra 1.0 megapixel. Who knows. Doesn't hurt to believe, though. :)
 
I will upgrade in a second and sign up to a new 18 month contract with O2 if they let me upgrade early. However, as this is highly unlikely as the phone was subsidised, I will probably keep the 3G for 2 years (i've owned since release day July '08) until the 4th generation iphone comes out in 2010. As there would be no point upgrading in Jan 2010 when my contract runs out.

All that being said, if I have some money burning a hole in my pocket, and I can buy myself out of the current contract, I will be doing so if the updates seem worthwhile.
 
I'm with the "wait and see" crowd because "people find the darndest things," I think was the phrase.

It may or may not be worth it to me to upgrade based on whatever the specs end up being and the cost involved in upgrading, but if I do deem it worth the cost to upgrade I'm still going to give it a couple of months. As the phrase "people find the darndest things" was used earlier, I acknowledge that little oopsies are likely to turn up and I'd rather let someone else find them, Apple quitely fix it, and then I'll get one of the newer phones that Apple denies being any different than the launch phones but mysteriously doesn't have the issues. ;)
 
I'm going to totally remember this thread..
When the new iphone comes out and it has great specs to where it is totally worth upgrading, I'm coming back to this thread to look at the peoples name who said they were good with their 3g and laugh at them when they do get the new iphone.
 
I am aware of the problem that I have and am at peace. I will be upgrading, not out of necessity, but out of addiction. Of course, I can quit when I want. :)

It will happen even if the iPhone doesn't have great specs.

I'm not a big fan of 3G owners who never had the original they're a tad arrogant. Not all obviously just enough to get annoying.
 
Better camera + video and editing capabilities will be good enough for me to upgrade.
 
It has to be released on a friday. 1st iPhone was released June 29th, Friday. 3G was released July 11th, Friday.

This means we will see a Friday release again most likely. It could be June 26th, NOT July 3rd because of independence day, July 10th, or July 17th.
 
i think i'm good with my 3G 16gb for another year. with stiffer competition from palm pre, nokia, android phones, blackberry storm 2, etc, i would see apple stepping up next year since no one knows how things will play out with those upcoming phones.

Correct me if i'm wrong but independence day is 4th july?
