I was at the apple store palisades tonight, and as I was leaving just before they closed, a group of 19 (yes, I counted) Asians came in together and parked themselves outside the store with sleeping bags and stadium chairs.

Hang on a minute guys....let me get my popcorn!
Ok, let's see. . . we've got:
Asians? Check.
Bottled water scenario? Check.
Capitalism argument? Check.
Can somebody please toss in a midget?![]()
People like you don't get it and never will. If you don't see the difference with a company selling a product it makes for a small profit, vs scalpers, who take away product from these companies, make them unavailable to regular consumers who want to pay a reasonable price, and resell them for criminal prices (and I don't give one crud whether there are people willing to pay those prices), then I can't say anything to make you understand. Some Apple stores have been actively trying to discourage the scalping, so no, Apple isn't happy on how things are progressing with the scalping. It hurts their image to see thousands of people turned away.
And finally, if someone wants an iPad, no matter how much a "freaking toy" it may seem to you, its not your g-d business to criticize them. Who are you, the final decider of what is important in life or not? If they want an iPad, then they they want one and its not up to you to decide whether its a worthy purchase or not.
correction- people like me GET your argument, we just make fun of it because it's stupid. People comparing reselling ipads to your bottled water disaster scenario lol. So how are these people trying to buy ipads off of ebay any less "regular consumers" than the guy standing in line. And how is a price "criminal" if it doesn't break any law? Please... Like I said, apple is not new to hyping products up to insane levels and then dealing with the launch... you are out of your mind if you think they couldn't have prevented this if they really wanted to- but the truth is, just like the resellers you hate they are in it to PROFIT. Waiting to launch until they had enough stock on-hand to deal with demand would have given the competition some extra room (like the wifi only xoom coming out soon), and setting up stupid rules about how you can pay etc would have discouraged some people from buying (plus they caught flack for trying to do it in the past).
The funny thing is that you somehow still think I have a problem with people wanting iPads, when my argument clearly shows the opposite... I'm favoring the people who want them so bad that they're willing to pay way more for them- or stand in line early enough to get them. The people I'm criticizing are the idiots who don't realize that since they AREN'T one of those people they need to suck it up and deal with it instead of blaming others. The people like you who act like iPads are some sort of life necessity such that if a reseller buys one and raises the price, you poor souls have no choice but to pay up. Because waiting until the real market value of an iPad drops is just too much to bear
Oh well... if there's one nugget of truth we can take away from your comment it's that Apple is only going to make a "small profit" on iPads. It may be meager, but hopefully it will help their modest company keep chugging along.
Sitting on 2 16GB wifi black IPAD2's. My local Target has had them for 2 days no so I don't think I was taking them from anyone around here who really wanted them when I went in at lunch and bought them. I am probably going to resell 1 and might give one to my son though I am not sure about that. Looks like EBAYers are getting 700-750 for them meaning I can make about $150 per unit if I don't get burned. That would be bad an din my mind isn't immoral. I would do buy it now, PAYPAL only and no returns and hope I don't get burned by some dirtbag. I guess we'll see...

dude you are too much lol. Resellers aren't the joke to me, it's people like you who make the purchase and sale of ipads into an issue of honor. That and your poor logic and bogus 'facts'. You are out of your mind if you think people in your line on launch day weren't reseling their ipads... You didn't get one because there were no resellers, you got one because it was launch day still and you were in line early enough! But sadly, you getting an iPad caused someone else not to get one. Feel bad about that? of course not.
I've been through plenty of launches for a product I really wanted, even waited in line overnight etc, and didn't get it- knowing the resale market was hot... And no, I never complained or thought anything was wrong with it then either. See the difference with me is, I understand that I'm not entitled to things regardless of how bad I want them. I can take responsibility for my choices like waiting in a long line already knowing I might be out of luck. I don't need to find others to blame when life doesn't work out the way I wanted. It's great, you should try it some time.
The main point that nobody has been able to deny yet, is that when resellers get their hands on an iPad, that iPad still ends up in the hands of someone who wants it. No matter what the configuration here, someone that wants it gets it, and someone that wants it doesn't... it's unavoidable. It's not about morality no matter how much people want it to be.
You didn't complain, great. But other people want to, what's it to you?
And as I said, how you sweat the small things in life is how you deal with the larger ones too. The behavior of an individual is always a matter of honor, no matter how trivial.
But you think that 350 of 400 iPads from the last shipment to the Fifth Avenue store is going to end up with the wealthy in China instead of here, where they were meant for, and you are apparently fine with that. No person with a sense of fairness would find that acceptable.
And enough with the "entitlement" crap. Having the means to purchase something due to your own hard work, but being denied due to the pure selfishness and greed of others, is not being "entitled".
These ebay restrictions are garbage. WTF was I thinking buying all these ipads and only being able to list 1 a week. FCK THAT
