[IRONY]Yeah. Much more likely that he'd only reply to emails with "viagra" or "bigger" or "nigeria" in the subject than mere Mac-related emails.[/IRONY]
That's /sarcasm not /irony

Technically, it was both. Sarcasm is a subset if irony. Right in Apple's own dictionary application:

sarcasm |ˈsärˌkazəm|
noun
the use of irony to mock or convey contempt

A grammar nit-picker got it wrong - how ironic!

Irony has a much broader definitition than most grammar nit-pickers know. If someone says "pull my finger", and you pull his finger, and he burps instead of farts, that is irony.

All depends .....

You could say the same thing about first model years of new cars and trucks that come out.... but people still buy and even pre-order those, left and right.

I'd say you're correct, if the #1 factor for you is rock solid reliability and no hassles. People with that as a priority should rarely consider upgrading their computers in the first place. The hassles of transferring software licenses and registrations from one computer to the other, moving all their data over, etc. often outweigh the benefits.

But some of us are just "enthusiasts" who enjoy having new technology first. I've bought my fair share of Apple's "rev. A" products, and had my share of problems with them too. But so far, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of having the latest hardware first ... and the issues that were "show stoppers" were quickly corrected by Apple under warranty.

(I owned a Rev. A G5 tower and a Rev. A Mac Pro tower, both of which didn't give me a single problem, though.)

Its the curse of the REV.A Apple product !

How many times must it happen before people realise that you must only ever buy a REV.B product, or even C to be sure when apple re-design something.

As others have stated, Apple doesnt have a good track record at fixing stuff like this previously, so I will definitely be holding out until Rev B/C for any new form factor machine.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this just an issue with actually clicking the trackpad, or does it also affect "tap to click" users? I have tap to click enabled and haven't noticed any issues with it registering clicks. Also, I've realized that it's easier to click on certain parts of the trackpad (easier the closer you get to the bottom, impossible at the top due to the hinge being located there), but that probably isn't what this issue is about right?

Having an as of yet unflawed Rev A Alu MB, I haven't had reason to read the "I'm having issues" threads on here, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

My trackpad does this, and it also hates Safari

My trackpad does the same thing, were it won't click, but if I take my hand off and than try again in a couple seconds it works, exactly as described. Trust me, this can be very annoying because your consistently thinking about it. I was planning on returning my MacBook but now that I see this is something larger than just one computer I'll probably hold off.

Also, my trackpad likes to change the font size in Safari frequently, which I'm guessing has to the with the fact that the hot key for that is Command - or Command + and somehow I am activating it... Either way, it is making me want to change to Firefox which I don't like as much. :(

Wouldn't it be related with you (slightly) pinching the trackpad while browsing in Safari?

Just asking because it took me some times to get a hold on how "no-to-pinch" while scrolling "up-and-down" and "left-and-right" in Safari...

I Hate This Trackpad

This is the most annoying trackpad I have ever used. I do not get the "locking up" problem as described but mine drops clicks all of the time.

The trackpad makes an audible "Click" but the click is not registered by the OS or whatever software I am using. It seems to vary in consistency sometimes I have had it so bad that 1 out of every three clicks fails. Other times it seems to work fine.

Safari is a big culprit. Trying to click on the bookmark bar fails about once in 4 attempts.

The problem is difficult to assess. Some people blame it on where you click on the pad, others blame it on a thumb click, etc. For me it can happen by pressing anywhere at anytime with any finger.

The other issue I have with the trackpad is that when I do go to click, 1 out of five times I accidentally move the cursor slightly. This never happened to me with a button press. But somehow if you move the mouse with one finger and click with another the cursor can jump slightly when it detects the second finger position. This results in a click but in the wrong place.

Sometimes this can be critical as in selecting yes or no from a list dialog. I have clicked the wrong option several times because of this annoying shift before clicking. I know that this particular problem is user error but I hope Apple will allow trackpad software tweeking that reduces these issues in the future.

Ahh you are correct, although for me, it works even when I am keeping one finger completely stationary. VERY annoying. Now that you mentioned it, I can easily change the font sizes, but that doesn't help the fact that I'm still accidentally doing this every five minutes. Maybe there is a way to change the hot key for increasing/shrinking font sizes?

Luckily I haven't experienced this problem on my lovely new MacBook Pro yet.

...and don't you all just love that right-clicking has finally come to the mac. It makes my day.

Different trackpad woes?

I've been having problems with my new MB's trackpad since the day I got it, but not the same issue as being widely described. While I'm typing, the cursor will disappear from the screen. The issue is that when I'm done typing and go to move the cursor, it doesn't re-appear and pick back up. I can swipe the trackpad numerous times, but the cursor won't come back until I physically click the trackpad.

Anyone else having this issue? of course I hope it will also be fixed in the same patch :).

Otherwise, I love my MB.

Thanks a lot people!

I didn't really notice the problem before until this thread popped up! I used to just take this as the trackpad confusing my thumb clicking for a 2-finger motion, but now I see it is in fact this bug.

It does not let me click until I take my hand off the pad for a second, then try again..

Gah.

I totally disagree. I've mostly bought revision a products and don't remember regretting a purchase in the last few years.

Yeah, I've noticed that too on my new MB (not pro) those few times I use the track pad and not a mouse.

read the following reply:

this is a usefull reply and exactly what I meant when saying *Steve Jobs* wouldn't reply, I meant personaly he wouldn't.

Now, I still haven't understood if this is a widespread issue? (do all the new MBP have this problem or not? and why not?)

Not sure if they all do, but I was very happy to see this post because I honestly thought I was going crazy clicking every now and again to no avail. I first noticed it on an app I'm developing and for about 2 hours I had myself convinced it was my code that was causing it.... I tested it on an older machine and using a mighty mouse and was unable to reproduce so I finally decided it must be the trackpad/trackpad software.

I'm not surprised to see that Apple is improving the experience for its users and fixing any issues that have been uncovered since the release of these new MacBook models (mind you, I haven't had any issues with my trackpad whatsoever, but that's not to say that others have not).

I don't see anything wrong with this trackpard, I just feel people don't know how to use it. When I first used it I was making mistakes with it but then after getting used to it, now it works like a charm and I can customize to suit my needs.

My trackpad looks like this but otherwise works pretty well
