It is a minor annoyance if anything. I have experienced a stalling track pad on my MBP from time to time, but it only occurs during specific situations, and isn't always repeatable.

To me, it feels like software is trying to prevent erroneous inputs, and simply puases the trackpad for a moment.

Not something you should be surprised to hear about from a Rev. A model.

Sadly, all revisions of the previous MBP had some issues too, some worse than the Revision A units.

Its the curse of the REV.A Apple product !

How many times must it happen before people realise that you must only ever buy a REV.B product, or even C to be sure when apple re-design something.

As others have stated, Apple doesnt have a good track record at fixing stuff like this previously, so I will definitely be holding out until Rev B/C for any new form factor machine.

I bought a rev A intel iMac 17". Not a *single* issue in almost 3 years.

Joshua.

I run into this issue occasionally. It usually only happens about once per day if even that often and is generally when, as a previous poster said, when i used the side of my thumb. Clicking with my index finger usually resolves the issue.

Can we please stop this "SJ responded" crap. I mean, ok, it's happened in the past and it's RARE, very rare. But now it seems like every single issue that ever gets addressed has been passed down from SJ himself. Right, the CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation is sitting around reading ALL the e-mails. While I don't doubt that on rare occasion he reads a few I doubt it's anywhere near as many as people are claiming. And anyway - why the heck is he even replying - he needs to keep working on keeping the competition at bay!

I am new to this forum and new to Apple Computers in general. I am planning on getting a MacBook Pro within a year. My questions are: Can I use a wireless mouse instead of the trackpad? Also, does anyone have an idea when Rev. B will occur? When does anyone think that the MacBook Pro's will be updated again? What can be expected as far as updates are concerned with the MacBook Pro from a year from now? Thanks

I don't know if it is related, but my PowerBook G4-867 suddenly had an intermittent issue when down paging on web pages (Firefox is my primary) using the right gray area under the slider bar where you click it once and it goes down several pages. This started after one of the security updates about a month or two ago.

Apple has made buying easy. Just get what you need when you need it and you will be happy. The only exception to this rule is just before a well expected update. Macrumors provides a handy update guide specially for this purpose. Enjoy your new MacBook Pro. They rock.

[IRONY]Yeah. Much more likely that he'd only reply to emails with "viagra" or "bigger" or "nigeria" in the subject than mere Mac-related emails.[/IRONY]
read the following reply:

Not directly, obviously, but his office will respond. Most people do not realize most major companies have two customer service depts. The main one that people call who goal is to blow you off as quickly as possible, and then a smaller one inside the CEO's office which usually will do what it can to be helpful.
this is a usefull reply and exactly what I meant when saying *Steve Jobs* wouldn't reply, I meant personaly he wouldn't.

Now, I still haven't understood if this is a widespread issue? (do all the new MBP have this problem or not? and why not?)

Hi,

The new MacBooks are made of unibody® alumium cases, and the trackpads are low coefficient of friction glass, it's therefore impossible to break them.

If your trackpad is faulty, it's because it's your fingers are too big or angry.

Steve

hmm, sometimes the trackpad acts wacky, but its not a HUGE deal. I think its fine. Its the best trackpad/keyboard i have ever used, really!

I do not believe this is a hardware issue, but rather a software problem.

If you consistently click on the bottom center portion of the trackpad, then this issue will not occur. Its when clicking on the bottom edges of the trackpad when the clicks stop registering. From reading the manual, you can configure the trackpad to act as an alternate click when clicking on the bottom edges of it. I bet its related to that.

I haven't noticed this on my new MBP Unibody yet.

Thing is though, in grand scheme of things this is no biggie and kind of thing you expect on Rev.A products.......

For all those cursing the REV A models, how do I know when there is a REV B? The next Macbook update? Is that what constitutes a REV B?

I've experienced this...and one other issue

I've experienced this problem. My workaround is to take my fingers off the trackpad for 5-10 seconds. That seems to reset it.

Of course, this is extremely annoying.

The other problem I have is that sometimes command-clicking just doesn't work if I don't have any fingers on the trackpad before I click. That is, if I have one or two fingers on the trackpad and I press command and then click, it works, but if all of my fingers are off the trackpad and I hold down command and click the trackpad with one finger, it often isn't recognized. It's frustrating.

Looking forward to a fix!

The MacBook also seems to be affected by the non-response-to-click issue (mine is). I do hope the software fix doesn't just apply to the 'Pro'.

My white MacBook occasionally has this problem as well.

Thank god, i returned my first MBP 2.4 because of this.

My new one still has issues with it, all the time ill click 20 times and it wont do anything...

geez...... that is a big problem.

My 2.0 Alum MB has no issues, just to note. I cant call the slanted function keys an issue, I just cannot.

have there been updated builds for a upcoming update? i guess what I'm asking s how close are we to the next update?
