To tell what's listed by Apple:
    1. at the Mac, running Apple's operating system
    2. launch Terminal
    3. enter this one-line command:
    defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SystemMigration.framework/Versions/A/Resources/MigrationIncompatibleApplicationsList

Hint: to select the line, triple-click.

With build 16A319 of Mac OS X 10.12, my installed IncompatibleSoftwareListVersion is 10.12.155.

Thanks Graham. Is it too long to post here? Or maybe pastebin?

Would be interested in seeing the list if you don't mind. :)

    Sierra

Too many characters for a post, so here's an attachment and http://pastebin.com/u004uRhN set to expire after two weeks.

I don't have the most recent golden master candidate, but this 10.12.155 was extracted (with Pacifist) to my desktop after downloading very recently (01:26 Saturday) from the URL given in the software update catalogue for releases.

A shortlist; each line must be read in the context of the fuller list that appears on your own machine:

    Code:
    sh-3.2$ defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SystemMigration.framework/Versions/A/Resources/MigrationIncompatibleApplicationsList | grep IncompatibleSoftwareListVersion
        IncompatibleSoftwareListVersion = "10.12.155";

Thanks for the post. Interesting to see so many of those "Internet security" suites and AV apps on there. I think those are the source of many of the OS update issues people have from prior releases.

@Weaselboy if you're interested in Apple's lists for Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan, you can:
    1. browse the relevant .sucatalog.gz software update catalogue
    2. download the four IncompatibleAppList.pkg files
    3. I guess, use pkgutil(1) to --expand to temporary paths
    4. read the MigrationIncompatibleApplicationsList files.

There are two for 10.11 (04/62/031-39656 and 09/24/031-40361 in the download URLs) – I don't know why.

Interesting, as there are apps in that list that are working just fine on my MacBook Pro running macOS Sierra...

Interesting post but a bit odd. Little Snitch listed 3 times with no version number to differentiate? It was indeed incompatible in the first beta but the dev responded with a beta very quickly and it's been fine since. I feel like that list is not quite the whole picture.

:D time for me to repeat what I emphasised above the shortlist:
    • each line must be read in the context of the fuller list that appears on your own machine
