Lying to protect yourself isn't the way I would go about it, but thats just the nature of my spiritual philosophy. Explaining to him that after consulting with likeminded patrons, you decided it was in your best interest to only sell to USA buyers.

This way if you do get negative feedback, which you probably will either way, you can show your future buyers the correspondence in question. Most everyone will still buy from you if they know the details of this "negative" instance.

Honesty is always best. "Brutal" honesty can be done tactfully nearly all the time.

getting the phone back is already NOT keeping the commitment seller made with buyer. to be 100% honest in this situation seller should ship the phone to buyer... but as the phone is already being returned to him, he might TRY saving his negative feedback too ....
ebay only allows you like 50 characters for feedback (that is the only space you get to explain your self) ..how exactly every one would know the whole stroy behind a negative feedback ? negative feedback always hurt seller

When did this happen? I always thought a seller could leave negative feedback. What does a seller do if the buyer never ends up paying him?

since late 2008 ... i know what u are saying ..but that's what it is now ! seller can not leave negative or neutral !

so went to the post office apparently the guy attempted to deliver my package this morning and left a slip. The slip says that I can pick the package tomorrow but the online tracking says it was delivered to me.

okay, so i want to refund him money, how do i do it? just log on paypal? or is there a way through ebay?? ?

go to paypal clikc on his payment.... make a FULL REFUND and add a note there too ... also ..all fees will be refunded to you ! so u dont lose any thing there!

Hmm I'm in the exact Same situation right now. Same buyer I think? I got the same email and everything. He already paid me and I already started the transfer of money to my
Bank. What do you guys think? I was going to ship out tomorrow.

Someone please stop me from writing a snarky reply.

Spoke to AT&T about sim card issue...

I have sold several phones over the years including recently and I have never taken the sim card out. I always do a hard reset before shipping. I just called AT&T technical support to ask their position. They stated that a hard reset eliminates all personal information but that for some reason some of the time email addresses can still be left on. They did say that if the buyer takes the phone to be activated AT&T will not activate an old sim card. The problem is when people sell phones with a sim card and do not complete the hard reset. For the future I will take the extra step to remove the card but in the past I have had no problem. I hope this was useful.

ok good for you then ! did u refund his money already ?

yes but since its from my bank account it's pending to be approved.

Forget him. Send a second chance offer to the next guy.

I NEVER sell international on eBay, and I only sell to people with good ratings. Ebay and PayPal SUCK.

Don't send the phone. Give him a refund. Just say you discovered the phone had a defect and you couldn't sell it that way. Say you dropped it in water.

Then sell it on Craigslist. Meet in person in public. Cash only. Check to see what they are going for in your area. Ask $25 over that and negotiate down to your price. Bring a friend if you're a young girl.

DO NOT drive far to meet. They will hold that against you to low ball. DON"T take less than you want, the next guy will pay. Don't let them know where you live. Use Google Voice.

the person told me to report it as a gift, and put a birthday card on top of it. is that all fishy?? Im calling the post office trying to get the package.

ABORT. This screams of a scam. See my other posts (click my user name) to read about my experience selling my iPhone 2G to a buyer from Vietnam. In a nutshell, I got f*cked. Please tell me you didn't mail to an unconfirmed address too?

EDIT: Whew, thank god, just saw you're getting the package back. Man, I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. Basically, asked me to mail to a non-verified address because it was their sister's birthday gift. Funds went through, even got it transferred to my bank account, then a week later Paypal told me they committed credit card fraud and *I* was responsible for the funds. Basically, I had to pay for *my own phone* and lost my phone too. Majorly sucked.

if you read my replies throughout the thread u will see that I actually was able to stop this package from being sent. Its in the post office waiting for me to pick up. I refunded his money (but wont clear till 5 days).

so yeah, i lucked out.

edit: just read that you read. LOL yeah it was fishy even the address i mailed to was unconfirmed. I was about to get screwed up the yin yang.

can't i just relist on ebay and specify US only ?

Personally, I only exclude the following now: Southeast Asia, Russia, South America, and Africa.

Europe and Canada are pretty safe, as are Japan and Australia. Just sold my 3GS to someone in the UK for $450 with no issues whatsoever. Take the right precautions and you'll be fine. If you want to sell for a lot, I definitely wouldn't exclude Europe. The exchange rate makes buying an unlocked phone from the US appealing.

As I've warned on other posts:
- Only ship when Paypal says "it's safe to ship" (click details under their transaction and it literally says this)
- Only ship to a Paypal confirmed address
- If shipping overseas, I recommend only using USPS International Express because it's both reliable and completely trackable.
- Always get delivery confirmation w/signature.
- Get insurance for the sale price of the item. Its value is whatever it sold for.
- Always fill out the customs form accurately. Tell the buyer that you can't lie and mark it as a gift (to save them money on the customs fee), because it voids any insurance claim you might have to make down the road.

Good luck. You can sell internationally safely, just don't make the same mistakes I did the first time around.

I wouldn't send a phone to Thailand but nobody there can do a damn thing with your SIM.

Personally, I don't ship anything until the buyer has paid. And I NEVER ship my old phones with the SIM card. I'd rather take a negative feedback than have someone do **** with my personal information. I don't know if that would/could happen, but I wouldn't take any chances.

I've shipped thing several times overseas, & nothing has happened.

Hope you have better luck next time around. :)

Any chance you can PM me the address? If it is in certain areas there is a chance i will be able to find out more about the buyer??
