I totally agree.

The biggest problem was releasing this new chart at the exact moment when every Apple fan was trying to get through the checkout as quickly as possible to guarantee launch date delivery.

Why not release the models/guide first on the website and then open preorders the following day, or even an hour later?

It would have allowed us more time to measure properly.
Good points. And that is why i didn’t bother trying to order a new watch with the new Solo band while being mobile.

Please correct me if I’m wrong...

Wouldn’t the measurement be slightly different for the 40mm watch vs the 44mm? The same band would be loser on the 44mm because the watch piece itself is bigger...

Ordered two bands in size 11 based on the size guide (195mm wrists).

I wear the M/L sport band with the middle hole, which give a looser fit which I like.

Hoping it will be the right size, but based on this thread think I should have probably ordered a size 10.

They should arrive in a few days; will update.

I measured a 9 on the Apple sizing tool in store but when I tried the sport loop on I was an 8 then tried the braided loop on and I was a 7. The braided loop seemed more stretchy and also seemed more likely to loosen up over time.

It’s all subjective though as I prefer a snug fit to a loose fit.

Well... that did not go well.

On the day of the keynote I printed the measuring form, verified the size with a credit card (perfect) and carefully cut out the measuring device. I literally taped the "watch face" to my arm, in the EXACT spot I wear my Apple Watch (I have a big tan line) and then wrapped the paper around my arm leaving NO GAP with my skin at all. The number in between the arrows was right in the middle of the 6 range. If I pulled the paper tighter so it would almost rip but created a big uncomfortable dent in my skin I could get it to read in the low 5s. But bottom line is with ZERO gap on my skin it was a 6... so I ordered a solo loop in 6.

It is HUGE. So loose its like a oversized bracelet so the watch will easily slide up and down several inches from the wrist/hand to further up my arm with every movement. There is visible air gap around the entire band and my skin. Clearly I likely need at least 2 sizes down, a 5 is still going to be loose is what I guess but my wife has a 5 coming in a few days (it is sadly obviously going to be too big for her also, we both have small wrists but hers are really tiny) so at least I can try that.

Frustrating experience, I'm returning it obviously and reluctant to order one again until I know for sure what the proper size hopefully by trying one on in a store... just not sure I want to make a trip to an Apple Store just for a silicone band for a watch.

For everyone's reference I have a left wrist of 164mm, 6.46 inches, and I normally wear an Apple Sports Band in 44mm, S/M size, 3 or 4th most tight hole depending how snug I want it... neither allow the watch to move from the wrist position I like.

Try using a cloth measuring tape. The print out tool was off for me as well and I did the same as you. I did make sure to measure above my wrist bone. Using the cloth, my wrist is 6” and Apple says I should be a size 5. I reordered for size 5. I will have to return the size 7 I bought first.

I'd still be concerned... my wrist is 6.45" and a 6 was NOT EVEN CLOSE, I don't think a 5 is going to fit me to be honest, I think I'll need a 4. My wife has a 5 in 40mm coming but since the lengths are the same for 40/44 models I'll try that in a day or two but I think you'll need less than 5 with a 6" wrist.

Love that band but I sent mine back because I didn't like the gap between the lugs and the Watch. This is not how it's pictured on the Apple website. The lugs just seem too short. But maybe that's a function of the braid design?

Apple's sending me a replacement but I just may cancel between now and then if they are all like this.

(Funny how I became picky when the price became $99. :))

as you should be, the $99 for the braided version is crazy as a braided band doesn't scream "high end" to me... I certainly wouldn't accept lugs that don't smoothly blend in with the casing on an Apple made band, that is what I'd expect from a knockoff, and a bad knockoff at that.

Dropping my experience for further reference.

Measured dead center on the 8 on the printable tool. 8 felt a little loose on both the braided and silicone loops so I ended up purchasing the solo loop in a 7. It feels good most of the time but I ended up taking it off later in the day as it was starting to feel a little tight.

Sucks because I prefer it fits more snug than the 8 but the 7 may be a little too snug. Maybe it’ll stretch over time but nobody knows at this point.

Any ladies or gentlemen have the "child wrist" like me? I have a 14 cm wrist. I don't have any Apple Store around me, and I can't print that damn Apple tool...but typing 14 cm on their website I get a size 2. Since everyone suggests to go at least 1 size down I've been wondering if I need the size 1, basically the smallest size available.
I like a pretty snug fit. To give you a more objective clue, this is my 40 mm series 5 with an S/M sport band (3rd hole, I can fit the 2nd but it's uncomfortable), and with a sport loop (you can see the top bottom popping up the top of my wrist).
Anyone with this kind of wrist?

Me! I ordered a 4 and it was way too big. Reordered a size 2 and it should be here later this week. I also have an appt Thursday at Apple store. I will report back.

I ordered a 7 but used the tape measure method so I’m hoping it is accurate. Regardless the solo loop is going in a drawer anyways but I’m curious.

And just because of all these uncertainty with the size, I’m sticking with the Sport Loop (shown with my avatar) that you can at least adjust on your wrist. Don’t have an Apple store nearby that’s open that I can at least put on for accuracy

I printed the tool using the business center in my building (I had to email the pdf to the printer and then select it on the printer screen to print it). I didn’t have any control over the print size or anything, but the credit card reference was slightly off (see photo). The printout puts me between an 8 and a 9. I went to the store and they used a tool they provided (also in photo). It put me between a 7 and 8. I went with the 7 because I like a snug fit. Could not have been happier with the 7. Also, with my old sports bands I would use the second from the last (smallest) hole, using the larger of the two sport band segments. Including a photo for that as well, because I know I was curious about how the sizing would correlate to the old sport bands.

My advice would be to definitely make sure that credit card reference is perfect. I saw just a slight difference and the band size could be off significantly. ...Also the band is super comfortable.

can't decide between the Atlantic Blue and the Charcoal Braided Loop.
Atlantic Blue is SPECTACULAR, vibrant, eye catching...but I'm afraid I'll get tired of it sooner over time.
On the other hand, Charcoal is less eye catching, but a classic black it's an evergreen that goes well with everything, everywhere.

They have now 12 different Solo Loops in 12 different sizes.
do they shelf 144 different boxes now in the stores plus the other bands? What a nightmare

...And there will be more returns than usual since a lot of stores are closed and people are ordering online. And because of Covid, Apple will probably be either sanitizing them or throwing them away — I’d assume sanitizing them. Either way, it does seem like a huge undertaking.

Based on my experience with the 6 (way too large, I detailed the info on the experience above) and some other posts here I found something that seems to have real merit... IF you are using a Sports Band with a S/M extension (this only applies to the S/M extension, so even if you wear the M/L, get out the smaller half and try this, should work as long as you are a size 9 or smaller) it seems the hole that makes the band the largest = a size 9 in a Sports Loop. Each hole then works backwards, so second longest hole is 8, third is 7 etc. Based on how I wear my Sports Band this means I am a 5 and that may well prove to be true, and also implies the Sports Band at its absolute tightest would be equal to a 3 in the Sports Loop, so in 40mm the size 1 and 2 would actually be some of the smallest bands Apple makes and perhaps good for kids or adults who struggle to make the Sports Band tight enough on even the smallest hole.

Is that the Black one?

I am nearly 150% certain Apple will dispose of all returned bands, I'm sure recycled but no way they repurpose them. The cost to Apple of the band itself is likely negligible, the $49 piece of silicone likely cost them under $1.

Too many MacRumors members have been buying the braided bands and now I have to wait over a month to get one. :p

:-(
I actually made an appointment at my local apple store and showed up and they had braided bands in stock despite the fact that apple.com said that they were unavailable. You might want to walk in (as soon as they open) and see if you can buy one

The apple guided paper. I had it snug, but not overwhelmingly snug. Landed in between 9 and 10, went with the 9 figuring stretchy material. So if in between I'd size down.

Fair warning though, if you have rings I'd turn them or take them off. It's a scratch to the watch waiting to happen!

So, do you have your solo loop yet? How does it fit?

I have the same size wrist, and wasn’t sure if I should pick a 9 or go with a couple smaller, like a 6 or 7.

Please let me know what you think.
