Lol I'm 180mm and couldn't even tolerate an 8, had to go with 9. I can't imagine how tight a 6 is. Hope it loosens up for you.
My wrist is about 180 mm. I measured for the Braided Loop using the (original) online tool, got 9 as a size, ordered a 9 and it was perfect.

I am amazed that anyone with a 180 mm measurement would choose a size 6.

I'd be afraid it would interfere with my ch'i.

Looks like I've turned out as a 6 in the silicon and a 7 in braided. I bought a sz 6 in the blue yesterday after a lot of testing / trial / ummmms and errors.. so far, so good. It's tight, but not uncomfortable and I'm anticipating some stretching. (Also, I'm about 185mm and the website originally suggested a 9).
My wrist is 186mm and I'm wearing comfortably a Braided loop size 10 (also the size recommended from Apple) that is not loose one bit. How on earth are you wearing a size 6? That's over an inch shorter. (27mm) That's got to be extremely tight.

This goes back to my statement about the right size being subjective. Some like it just fitting. Some like it snug. And it seems some like it downright tight. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So I think the thing most people are missing including me when I ordered my first pair. Is that this material at least the rubber one is super soft and flexible; so even though you may like a certain sizing for the standard sport loop - because of the flexibility in materials a tight fit will still flex when you are bending your wrist making the tight size feel good even when you are moving your wrist around; unlike the more rigid materials. Hope this makes sense; with other bands its a fine line of tight versus comfort - with this one you can have both because of the materials.

So I originally ordered a Size 8 Braided and Standard Solo Loop. Both were way too big. Decided to bite the bullet and drive the hour (ended up being 2 hours with rain and traffic) to my closest open Apple Store. Using the household objects tool it said I was a size 6, which was correct for the standard Solo Loop. But for the braided loop the 6 was too big and I had to drop down to a 5. Clearly the best thing to do, if at all possible, is to try these bands in person since it varies person to person and the tool is never going to be 100% accurate for all people.

My solo loop is an 11 (Spot on with the apple measurement tool). Tried a braided loop on in store today and purchased a size 10. When I compare the solo loop (Size 11) to the braided (size 10) they are the same exact length. Not sure if this is an oversight or if apple purposely did this

I've ordered a 5...
- 157mm at the point where I wear my watch - Apple tool recommended a 5/6 (5 is recommended for 151-156, 150 is a 4/5 and 157 is a 5/6)
- Typically wear the S/M band on the 44m at the 3rd from tightest hole. 2nd from tightest is very snug, 3rd from tightest is just right, 4th from tightest (middle hole) is slightly relaxed/loose fit.

Just an update, I went to the Apple store and used their tool. It was fairly consistent and gave me a mid-5 reading. They did not have an *actual* strap for me to try though...

I ordered the 5 size Solo Loop online and no surprise... it was way too big! It fits just slightly looser than what I described above as the relaxed/loose fit 4th from tightest hole on the S/M strap.

Apple is arranging for a band-only replacement for me now. Hopefully, the 4 works.

I think you're perfectly right. In the Apple store fitting, I came in at a 7 on their scale. I'm a 7 in the braided and I'm quite happy with the 6 in the silicon. I do like the fit, but I do think it will stretch within six months or so..

Well, as per - my watch strap sizing choices creating a stir.. so here's the photo's.

TBH it's snug. Sure. But it's also comfortable and I have no issue with limited movement or tightness. I just enjoy that fit and feel. (I tried the 7 in both braided and silicone).

Measured (with snug/tight fit) between 6 and 7 with the tool, bought size 6. Received my 40mm (with the size 6) solo loop today. Fit is fine, its snug (as planned) but not uncomfortable. Would probably go for a size 6 on the braided too.

So I am going to weigh in now that I have received my watch and an alternate band. When I ordered I measured using the paper tool. I was on the line between 7 and 8. I ordered an 8. BUT, based upon all the noise on these threads I also ordered a 6 separately.

Results:
The 8 was the exact right fit. Not tight but not overly loose
The 6 was a terrible fit as it was hard to put on and super tight

Observations:
1) I hate these bands because the are tough to put on
2) Apple was right they will stretch just based upon the pulling required to get them on
3) The paper sizing loop was dead on and I suspect much of the complaining was based on some expectation that these needed to be super tight for the Blood Oxygen sensor to work
4) Apples new guidance about tight vs relaxed fit seems right and I had that been available when I ordered I would never have had all the turmoil of sizing

In the end, I will not be using the loop band as its just a PIA. I will be returning the Green 44/6 Band. I will keep the size 8 I received with the watch cause I have too. I am going back to my Nike bands which look great and fit comfortably.

I did order some knock-off braided bands from China so I will see how they are but likely, they will be trashed.

This has been a totally disappointing band experience although so far S6 seems great.

So that’s some thing I was actually curious about that I hadn’t read much on. That being how hard they are to put on. Especially the braided loop. I think I’ll just stick with my Sports Loop for $50 cheaper.

Not at all in my case... I'm two sizes down - 165mm spot on measurement with a tailor tape, take a size 5. I tried a size 6 in the Apple store and it was slightly loose. My fit looks very close to xavras's above.

I said this before and I'll say it again - there's a pattern here where folks w/ larger fitments are matching Apple's suggestion, whereas nearly everyone with smaller fitments is going a size or two down. I'm guessing this i due to skinny people having a lesser taper going up their arm.

Agreed.
I tried them on again in a different store yesterday that had all the sizes, and it's true, they are very difficult to put on! Actually I found the braided loop went on much easier. I think because the smoother material of the solo loop created more resistance against my skin, whereas the braided loop is more fabric-feeling and a bit stretchier and slid on easier.

The solo loop looked great, and was super comfortable once it was on, but I feel like the tension I had to put on the lugs to get it over my wrist can't be good for the watch in the long run. I was afraid that one wrong movement would snap the thing across the room like a rubber band. Also, I think daily fluctuations in wrist sizes will make these comfortable one day, and then too tight/loose the next. When I tried on a braided 3 on Saturday, it felt good, slightly on the looser side, it would jiggle a little if I shook my wrist but would not slide over the wristbone, but then when I tried it on yesterday it actually felt tight, and after wearing it in the store for 5-10 mins, I had a braided imprint around my entire wrist. Normally I wear a regular sport band on the 3rd tightest hole, yesterday when I put on my band I had to use the 4th hole from the watch. 🤷‍♂️

Literally can put my watch on in < 5 seconds. I can understand the first several times having to futz with it as it's a weird experience.

Lol its great until you wake up one morning with a black hand :D

You don't have to grab the watch at all to put it on. Grab the band with one hand then just slide the hand you wear it on through. Super simple, quick, and no chance of the watch flying anywhere (unless somehow the band snaps).

That's how I was doing it, but I had to really struggle to get it over my hand. I wonder if it's more difficult for those with tiny wrists because the differnce between the wrist & hand size is more pronounced? The solo loop 4 I tried on went on much easier but was then flopping around and way too big. Do you have a larger size band?
(Braided went on very easily, just as you said.)

Oh. I already set it up on the phone for an exchange. Though I haven’t sent anything or got instructions. Maybe I can call and ask to pay the difference?
I am in the same situation. Did you eventually hear back about your replacement?

I’m probably a bit late, but I just got my 44mm solo loop. I used a measuring tape to size my wrist, and with it snug, I measured 6.5” exactly, which landed me on size 7. Out of curiosity, and after reading about sizing issues, I changed my sizing in the tool to 6 7/16”, and it gave me a size 6 for a “snug, athletic fit”, so I ended up ordering that.

The band arrived yesterday, and it’s a perfect fit. If anything, it might be slightly snug, but it’s comfortable, and I prefer it to a loose band. So for me, the sizing was pretty much spot on just using a measuring tape.

Wirst 18cm - loop size 9 - fits great

Glad you like the fit. IMO it looks really loose. Which brings me to the point. It seems that some like a tight watch stop, while others like it a little to a lot loose.

Happy that you found the fit that suits you the best!

Cheerio!
