Let's be honest: the new keyboard is a joke. The feel is horrible and typing makes a CLACK CLACK CLACK sound way louder than before. All for a couple of millimeter extra thinness.
It's actually the sole reason why I didn't buy the new MacBook Pro. I hope they'll either evolve the current system or revert back to an old mechanism.

Glad this issue has surfaced.

My 15-inch has occasional problems with the spacebar.
My daughters 13-inch (with Touch Bar) has occasional problems with the fn-key.

Hmmmm. What to do now.

iPad can't do what I need it to do. So if your suggestion were true, my next laptop would not be an Apple.
I've long ago made that decision. Once my 2013 MBA finally gives up the ghost I'm going to be getting anything other than Apple.

I actually like the new keyboard but I'm sadly having one of the issues mentioned: the 'b' key sometimes repeats itself. If it turns out to be a defect the issue is pretty annoying and unacceptable for a premium device such as this.

No issues for me at all. I also seem to be in the minority here, but I much prefer the new keyboard design over the old one. Although everyone is entitled to their opinion, I wonder how many complaining have actually tried to type some text on it.

The 'v' key on my late 2016 MacBook Pro (15-inch) is missing key presses from day one. To me this new keyboard is a joke. It makes funny noises and doesn't type as good as the old one.

Just wait for Tim Cook's keynote where he says that "the customers LOVE the new MacBook Pros!"

Can't fault there prodcuts except the new macbook pro it seems, i waited for the new macbook pro to show and when it did i bought the 2015 mbp, no brainer as they were going cheaper.

I'm also very impressed that we have such a proper old-timer here! (Apologies if wrong word was used.) What was your first computer? Mine was ZX-81. I have to say the rMB/MBP keyboard is slightly better than the ZX-81 one (from my "testing" at Apple Store), but ZX-81's keyboard never made high pitched noises and I had no problems with keys sticking or repeating.

Plus, it cost less than £100, c.f. £600+ for an Apple II...

Strangely, today, its spiritual successor, the Raspberry Pi, still costs about £100 (for a complete starter kit with keyboard, mouse, case, power supply, SD card) while the cheapest Mac Mini costs around £500.... Inflation? We've heard of it.

Slightly sobering thought that the shiny new MBP costs around the same figure as a 1980s Mac, despite 30 years of inflation and a few orders of magnitude increase in computing power.

However, we're buying computers today, not in the 1980s, so its relative prices that count, and the new MBPs are relatively expensive. They're having far too many "teething troubles" for such premium-priced machines.

I had mine (15 inch) repaired last week. Single pressing the R and U keys registered as double; i.e. press 'r' get 'rr'. I suspected it might be dust so I bought a silicon keyboard cover and hopefully it will now be ok...

And you need to get your facts straight. The LG 5K display is on sale, you can order it

Splitting hairs. They stopped shipping it. You can order it, but shipping is "2-3 weeks"... and there's nothing on the product page that offers any guarantee that the WiFi interference problem has been fixed (maybe if you wade through the Q&As).

Maybe because the keyboard is absolute junk, designed for teenagers who never have to type for extended periods. There was nothing wrong with the keyboard, that's what happens when you fix something that isn't broken. Want a good keyboard? Get a ThinkPad.

Yes, An IBM Thinkpad not a Lenovo.
Have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, but prefer my early 2011 MPB's keyboord and track pad by miles.

Wow, a little late to the thread, all I can say is that this is definitely disappointing, especially for those who own and have to deal with the issues.

You would hope that a gen 2 component would have some of those issues already shaken out.

Apple are very good at stonewalling when a common problem occurs - 2011 MacBook Pro GPU issue anyone? I fear they will bury their heads in the sand as usual and will never admit to widespread qc problems or offer any significant help to their customers. Replacing laptops with this keyboard issue is clearly welcomed but doesn't acknowledge any commitment to tackling their constant and widespread qc issues. Apple's usual policy is once the warranty/AppleCare runs out, they'll charge through the nose to replace the faulty components with new components that, after some time, will again develop the same fault. I don't see them changing anytime soon.

Apple would like to thank all the beta testers who spent $2000+ from their own money to contribute to the cause of building reliable hardware in the future for other Apple customers.

I am sure glad i bought the 2015 model

The m key and then the h key on my keyboard randomly starting doing the double character thing too.

For me just pressing down on the middle of the key firmly and rolling my finger around in a circular motion seemed to fix both issues.

Not the best that this happens at all, still my favorite Mac keyboard in general feel and sound so far though.

After 20 years of MacOS and Apple-after i have owned, used and operated pretty much everything from the legendary Power PCs to recent products- i finally decided to switch to a Lenovo Workstation later this year. It is "news" like this one that fuelled my decision.
I will keep my iPads, Mac Books (until the batteries die) for office work, synching ios devices etc.
For serious Photoshop Data, DaVinci and Nucoda i need serious machines with more bang for the buck.
Well, after all i don't care about the fact that my upcoming workstation won't be running OSX.
This comes from someone who has always been a loyal customer and Apple Evangelist who never questioned Apple's sanity towards it's pro users.
Well, things change.

Same boat. It's my favorite keyboard I've ever typed on/owned. Typing jibberish on it for 30 seconds at the Apple Store doesn't do it justice. You need to spend some time with it. I'll admit I didn't like it the first day, but it really grew on me quick, and now typing on anything else feels weird.

I love the new keyboard. With that said, about a month ago, Apple gave me a new laptop b.c the "E" button failed. Definitely need AC with this laptop, but it seems Apple is just replacing the laptop instead of repairing it, which is nice.

Maybe they will just upgrade people to a newer Mac if your keyboard fails a year from now instead of giving you yet another 2016 MacBook (assuming the keyboard issues gets sorted out in a later version).

I think everyone should keep in mind that your perception of what you read/see in online forums is wildly skewed (especially when it is a negative thing). Even if 500 different people fill this thread with "hey, I'm having this problem too!" , that's still only 500 out of the tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of 2016 Macs Apple has sold. Could be a pretty localized/contained issue. Or it could be widespread.

I feel keeping this in mind could help alleviate some of the ridiculous comments that have turned this website into a hate-spewing circle-jerk. Not saying these problems aren't there, or discrediting those who are actually having the issue - because the problems ARE real - just saying it just may not be as bad as it always seems.

I've had the high pitching noise on the M key, but I noticed this only when charging. I read somewhere that the MacBook Pro chassis is a conductor itself and if the key has no other issues it shouldn't be a problem. I noticed this once or twice on my late 2013 13'' retina Macbook Pro, also when charging.
