Mine's going in today because the spacebar has become less and less responsive until it's hard to type at any reasonable speed because you have to constantly go back and add spaces between words. My old macbook pro died just after the new one came out and the stores ran out of 2015 models so I had little choice but to upgrade but the keyboard, even when working, is absolute junk compared to the previous model. I have no idea how this entire design made it through any kind of testing process, the feel is absolutely awful. Even my macbook air from a couple of years back feels far better to use.

I thought I was the only one! The "b" button on my 15" Mbp keyboard started acting up a few days ago. It is weird the way it reacts, as pressing the button will sometimes lead to it reading two presses (on one press) or no input at all. I've noticed that firmly pressing the button a couple of times will temporarily fix the issue. Scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar on Friday!

in order to shave an irrelevant 1mm from the MacBook, Jony compromised on battery, ports, magsafe and keyboard.

Can someone be more stupid then that ?

Yep, Tim Cook since he approved of Jony's nonsense and seems to only care about profits, not customers.

The value of the 2015 MacBook Pro just keeps going up every day.
No kidding. When I compare what I get with the 2016 vs the 2015, it's actually surprising anybody would get the 2016 when it costs $400 more and you lose so much, including magsafe, the ability to plug in anything without an adapter, and a much better keyboard. I'll replace my 2011 with a 2015 pretty soon and probably be very happy with it.

Came to see the hate... wasn't disappointed
What hate? I see a thread full of MBP owners who have experienced the issues and have had, in some instances, multiple replacements. It obviously seems Apple knows about the issue. They're quickly replacing or repairing affected units. As they should do.

It happens with pretty much all electronics these days, regardless of the manufacturer. We owe early adopters a debt of gratitude for their willingness to beta for us. <-- kidding, not kidding. Well, maybe kidding a little.

I dig the keyboard, but I do notice that my CAPS LOCK key sounds almost silent compared to the other keys. Not the end of the world-figured it was just an idiosyncrasy of mine.

What DOES bug me is that I try to turn it off, like I do on all of my computers, but it keeps activating itself. THAT is my problem.

Good choice. I was in the same boat as you in the last few weeks. Helpful tip, google 'refurb me', you can receive notifications when a specific 2015 MBP model gets back in stock on Apple's Refurbished Store. I initially bought a used 2014 model to replace my 2011 model last week but right after buying, got a notification that the 2015 model I wanted became available on the Apple Store. Snapped it up right away, a maxed out 2015 model, it literally looks like a brand new computer plus you get the Apple warranty perks that you otherwise wouldn't get with a used model out of warranty.

I had that problem with my M key. I pressed it down hard and kinda wiggled it around and it cleared up. Might be some manufacturing debris stuck under the key cap?

My aluminum keyboard on my 2008 Mac Pro occasionally produces a double 'D' or a double 'S' when I am fairly sure I did NOT press it twice. I think some of the problem may be due to the auto-correction / auto-completion of words as it adds a letter at the end of words.

These problems sound like someone made a change for the sake of change.

It's meant to be admired, not used...

If you return it within the first 30 days, you can get a new one, since its "Dead On Arrival". I had problems with the first one I got, exchanged it for a new one, and now Im happy with it.
Until that gremlin starts squeaking and trying to get out.

Dunno. I mean, I could be wrong, but one thing I noticed when it happened to me is that it wasn't the same in all apps. I had a dead "b" key, but it came back to life when I switched apps. I can't imagine how that could be hardware.

My system actually developed a weird clipboard problem too, so I did an erase and install. I haven't had either problem since, so I'm assuming the Migration Assistant pooched things (dunno why I did it honestly... I've avoided using it ever since it was first introduced!).

Odd, I never saw that behavior.

Migration Assistant has always worked great for me. My backup is originally from a PB G4 and I've migrated across three other Macs.

I returned my first 2016 15" because of the keyboard was not uniform sounding, the outer keys were almost silent while the inner keys near the middle were very loud and hollow sounding. I never had any of the loud clicking keys from these videos. The key travel was not a problem and I liked the layout of the new keyboard but the loudness and hollowness of the middle keys was too much for my liking.

I then ordered a 2nd one almost a month after the first and the middle keys were not as hollow sounding but you can still hear the thud sound more in the middle keys than the outer ones. I can literally hit the outer ones and some of them make no sound at all. So the keyboard is not uniform sounding and that is my biggest gripe along with the sound. In a library or quite place the keys are really loud.

I actually made a decision tonight after seeing this article to go ahead and return this 2nd one and get a refund. I'm afraid the keyboard will just not hold up over time and I plan to keep my laptop for 3 or 4 yrs. I also noticed that my space bar is not holding up well and making more noise than usual, almost like it's loose. It acts different depending on where I touch it, sometimes it's firm feeling and other times it's spongy and noisy, it's weird and that just starting happening in the past couple days. Another reason I'm returning is that I'm noticing a lot of lag in different areas and I've got the beach ball several times and had to force close safari for not responding. I've noticed lag kick in right before this happens. I don't know if it's the iGPU not up to speed like it should or what but I had the 2015 2.5 15" with iGPU only and I never got a beach ball and it never forced closed for not responding. I also never had any lag at all in safari or iTunes or anywhere. I'm sure software will fix the 2016 lag I'm experiencing but I don't know when that will happen.

So I'm going back to my old Dell laptop that is really old but still works and will wait out the next 8 months or so for the next 15' Macbook Pro this fall. I won't be trying the new one anymore.

Yeah, I gotta agree - the 2015 MacBook Pro keyboard is great! It's too bad they didn't keep using those...

The previous generation Bluetooth keyboard is pretty close to the 2015 keyboard and you can get them for around $30 off of eBay. I actually like the 2016 keyboard better than the keyboards of recent MBPs because the keys of all the recent models are too stiff for me. My hands hurt if I type on the for more than a few minutes. I can type longer on the butterfly keys and much longer on the A1314 Bluetooth Keyboard.

If I'm doing extended typing on my 2016 MBP, I'll either have my mechanical keyboard plugged in at my desk or I'll have my Bluetooth keyboard in my bag for use when I'm out and about.

I wouldn't suspect auto-correct for that. It actually is the keyboard's fault most likely. I have a pretty sizable keyboard collection. With problematic keyboards, it's a fairly common problem that you'll get double letters. Sometimes it's the switch activating twice and in others the key signals can get crossed and lead to phantom keypresses.

These problems sound like someone made a change for the sake of change.

Actually, I think it's pretty obvious what the reason was. They wanted a thinner laptop.

Another great feature carefully designed for the new Apple consumer, who will buy these anyways considering the amazing feedback the 12" macbook keyboard has had.

As someone in this forum once stated: "The general trend is that future computers are better than yesterday's models." - maybe "The general trend is that future computers are cheaper made and higher priced than yesterday's models."?

Happened briefly on my delete key, but corrects itself after a small amount of use; nothing to freak out about. Nothing wrong with the keyboard design on the 15", can't speak for the 13".

My 2016 15" keyboard is perfect. It has ruined me for any other keyboard. They all feel like mushy garbage. I used to think my Lenovo X260 (work computer) was great. Now it feels like mushy garbage.

And yes, the 2015's keyboards feel really bad after you get used to the clicky tightness of the 2016's. True story, anyone who disagrees hasn't spent time with the new design. It's fantastic.

I like the rigidity of the butterfly keys and that it's larger, but I just wished it has an extra 1mm travel.

Part of the problem of all this double entries has to do with how precise Apple required the manufacturers to make the keys, and the current key travel distance is part of the problem as well.

But Apple won't take any of this into account, when they release newer devices.

Just take the 2012 Mac Mini - The quad cores are worth their weight in gold, yet apple will either kill the mini line or release ever lower powered dual cores on the next update - glued/soldered to the max as well.

LOL. Spend some time in a keyboard enthusiasts forum and you'll find that what people prefer is highly subjective and often slightly random. The new MBP keyboard is a nice keyboard. It's not my favorite by a longshot, but I like it better than the recent MBP keyboards.
