Have the people that complained about "loud keys" ever used a mechanical keyboard? I have one, and mechanical keyboard are MUCH MUCH MUCH better than standard keyboard. But you can hear the key presses from 20+ feet away!

Also, you guys cannot reliably go by what posters here say. There could only be 1% of these sold that have issues. Usually people with no issues go to these forums and create threads titled "No issues!"

Apple's latest line of notebooks introduced an entirely revamped keyboard featuring flatter keys built using a second-generation butterfly mechanism, designed to optimize for stability while also maximizing travel. The butterfly mechanism was originally introduced in the ultra thin MacBook, but a newer version was implemented in the MacBook Pro.

There have been mixed opinions about the keyboard of the 2016 MacBook Pro due to its vastly different feel compared to previous-generation MacBook Pro models, and it appears the new butterfly mechanism may also be less reliable compared to older construction techniques.

A growing number of customers who have purchased a 2016 MacBook Pro are running into issues with the keyboard, including non-functional keys, strange high-pitched sounds on some keys, and keys with a non-uniform feel. There are dozens of threads both on MacRumors and on the Apple Support site.

One of the most significant issues appears to be keys that make different higher-pitched sounds than other keys in some cases, a problem that was caught on video by MacRumors user monstermac77. As is demonstrated, when the caps lock key is pressed, it makes a sound that's much different than the other keys on the keyboard.

According to monstermac77, the issue is only reproducible when the Mac is warm, a complaint that has been echoed by several other MacBook owners in the thread, suggesting heat plays a role in activating the problem. Some users are experiencing the overly-clicky sound without heat, though. The high-pitched clicking sound is irritating, but it isn't as serious as some of the other issues MacBook Pro owners have been having with the keyboard. In some cases, certain keys on the MacBook Pro miss clicks, enter double letters, or refuse to respond at all, a problem that we here at MacRumors have also experienced. MacRumors reader rroch describes the problem:It's not clear what's causing the issue with the keys that suddenly become non-functional, but the butterfly mechanism is sensitive and can be interrupted by something as simple as a bit of dust. In our case, with the machine we had that was experiencing issues with a specific key, the problem cleared up on its own, but other MacBook owners have not been so lucky.

One other minor keyboard complaint is an inconsistent feel across keys, with some keys that feel spongier than others or that don't press down consistently. This seems to be related to a problem with the butterfly mechanism which some users report having fixed with a needle or other thin tool, but most people should not try that sort of repair at home.

While many of the complaints seem to be focused on the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, some users have also had problems with both the 13-inch model with a Touch Bar and the 13-inch model with no Touch Bar.

Customers who are experiencing keyboard problems should visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. In most cases, Apple is offering repairs and replacements for affected users, especially those who have verifiable hardware problems related to skipping keys, but some MacRumors readers have needed to go through several replacement machines to find a keyboard that doesn't experience issues.

Keyboard replacements are also not a simple matter on a machine as complex as the MacBook Pro, and users should expect repairs or replacements to take multiple days. According to reports from customers who have sought repairs, Apple is outright replacing most Touch Bar models while sending non-Touch Bar models out for repairs.

I am so unsure. On the one side, I need a new MacBook but on the other side the MacBook Pro 2016 have some problems.

I don't know if I should buy it or wait until October. Hard to tell.

There could ... "could" ... be a new processor or more SSD for the same price.

Oh boy ... Never buy a new gerneration of an Apple product, but my old MacBook is sooooo slow. Arg.

Id say get one now. The newer laptops might MIGHT have 32GB of RAM. That is about it. Kaby Lake is not the "processor to rule them all" like people seem to think it is. I have a 2013 rMBP and I needed to get the new one. I made sure to get Apple Care this time in case I do have issues with it.

And is everyone fully 100% confident that the 2017 ones will be error-free? If they do switch to full desktop memory, I think they would have issues as well.

Also, I don't think its fair to blame Apple for the battery issues since Microsoft had the same problem with the Surface Pro 4. Skylake seems to be a tough generation!

I returned my first 15" macbook pro 2016 before the 14 'day ... I had some doubts about the battery. (The battery Lasted about 5 hours)
They gave me a new one, without even looking at the old one, this new remains on many many hours. at least 8.

i am very happy about this new 15" macbook pro, it's a wonderful machine, i don't care about the price, it is worth !

Want Chinese junk that destroys IBM's once great computer legacy? Get a ThinkPad.

I have a brand new 2016 X1 Carbon $2K model for work. It's a wonderful, amazing, glorious copy of the 2015 MBPr keyboard, I used to own. :p

GO CHINESE LENOVO!!

FWIW, it's got that eraser pointing thing that 1990 called and wants back...

Le sigh

If you need it, get it. As others have already stated, the vast majority of people with a new MBP aren't having any serious issues with it. I got one myself and it's fine. None of the headlining issues have happened on mine and I have a maxed version which has been the glitchiest of them all.

What MBP model do you have now? You might also be able to upgrade that one. If it's a recent year one, I don't know if your speed issues will be solved by upgrading to the 2016. It's really not that much faster. I jumped up from a mid-2012 and the speed improvements are noticable, but hardly mind blowing.

Thanks for the needless "innovation" that made everything worse.

It's funny how short people's memories are...

The needless innovation you don't appreciate is responsible for all the "ultrabooks" that copied the MBA - Yeah there were thin and light notebooks before but no one seemed to care.

The innovation of making a smartphone with a screen keyboard that made Google drop their Android phone and start over again... Hmmm NOW, all phones use screen interfaces for entering information. You can actually Google the conversation they had when the first iPhone launched and see how Android phones started out like BBerrys ;)

That retina display that everyone NOW seems to match or beat was something else you can thank them for. Again, there may have been some odd laptop with a UHD screen but no one cared until Apple dropped the MBPr and then everyone plays catch up...

The list goes on...

REMEMBER, all companies innovate but they are made up of humans and not everything goes swimmingly... Give credit where it's due.

Okay, you can go back to the negative comments and complaining on MacRumors...

a 2000++ bucks mbp with a crappy keyboard is like a porsche with wooden wheels. This thinness menia is so sick!! Make the mbp light, but keep the regular dimensions. A Macbook is not a smartphone.

Keyboards are so antiquated, they have been around since the beginning of computers. It's time for Apple to use their "courage" and "innovate" their "ass" into a new input device or just remove the keyboard entirely and make another "adapter".

Yeah, that eraser pointing thing is what we want & use which is why it's still there.

ThinkPad keyboards have been the best in the business since the 90's. There is nothing that comes remotely close.

IMO mechanical keyboards are WAY overrated. I've been a programmer/software engineer for about 40 years and used mechanical keyboards for all that time. I find newer keyboards like those found on the Macbook Air to be far superior than mechanical. Less effort is required and I find my touch-typing speed improved significantly with less fatigue than with mechanical keyboards.

so.... you young, hipster huckleberries can GET OFF MY LAWN!:D

That already happened.

Here is the computer:

Added "optional" keyboard and display:

(Also, new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.)

But I suspect I missed the /s in your comment. Still, aren't those purdy? (Although not very thin.)

I didn't like them at first. But now that I have used one, I cannot stand standard keyboard anymore. it just doesn't feel as responsive.

It strikes me that so many Mac owners have become so conservative to the extend that they keep playing "it used to be better in the old days". Being a Mac user since 1988, I think everything has become progressively better. I'm on a MBP 13 touchbar after my 2011 MBP was beyond salvage. Try that with any Windows rig. In the mean time, I have had no issues with anything. I like the keyboard (ok, it's a bit loud while typing). All my Adobe CS apps run perfectly and fast. I can edit movies. Fast enough. Stop moaning. This is the Volkswagen Golf GTi in computing. Premium price but it. just. works. And it looks good too.

Wow, you got 5 years from your MBP, as a Windows user I can only dream that my stuff would last that long..../s

Now that other people had issues with power and Skylake, absolutely.

Splitting hairs. They stopped shipping it. You can order it, but shipping is "2-3 weeks"... and there's nothing on the product page that offers any guarantee that the WiFi interference problem has been fixed (maybe if you wade through the Q&As).

It's fixed, within weeks they will ship the corrected devices to customers who ar able to buy these monitors as we speak. People who have issues with their models bought before this 'recall' action can rely on a fix as well LG stated.

Maybe because the keyboard is absolute junk, designed for teenagers who never have to type for extended periods. There was nothing wrong with the keyboard, that's what happens when you fix something that isn't broken. Want a good keyboard? Get a ThinkPad.

The Keyboard on my late 2013 13" MBP is perfectly fine.

And you need to get your facts straight. The LG 5K display is on sale, you can order it and everyone ordering the new LG5K display can be assured to get a fixed device. Apple has therefor 'not' stopped selling the LG 5K Displays.
Apple did indeed halt sales, regardless of whether they restart sales...

https://9to5mac.com/2017/02/13/lg-ultrafine-5k-display-apple-store/

The LG 5K display currently has a whopping 2.5 out of 5 star rating on Apple's website:

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/HKN62LL/A/lg-ultrafine-5k-display

The thing is a visual insult. Apple should have hired EIZO instead of LG. While not 5K, I got the following 27" display for my 2015 MBP 15" to connect via MiniDP and the near bezel-less design is superb, and power-saving features are top notch, as is the color consistency:

I hate the new keyboards. Typing on them is like typing on concrete. I tried out the 2016 MBP and then walked out of the store with a new 2015 MBP instead. It's keyboard is way more comfortable to me.
