Just curious, those with BT issues...

Where is your computer in relation to your keyboard/trackpad/mouse? I have a Mac Mini on order and plan to have in on my desk under the monitor.

I have a 13” M1 MBP and have had a few issues with airplay and Bluetooth simultaneously. Have had WiFi just completely bug out as well. Also issue with video output to an external display and then waking the system from sleep only to not be able to get the main laptop display to come back. I’m sure most of these are software issues and they haven’t been frequent enough to really inconvenience me.
- to be fair I have an iMac 2017 5k and have historically had issues with Bluetooth every once in a while so I think it may be a macOS thing.

My Magic Mouse seems to start to lag - but only when the M1 Air isn't plugged into power. Anyone else experience this?

Just got my M1 Mini and I'm having this problem too. Seems worse when I have both bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected. Really hoping it can be fixed with a software update.

A number of M1 Mac owners are reporting problems with Bluetooth connectivity on the new machines, ranging from intermittent disconnects of wireless peripherals to completely non-functional Bluetooth connections.

Some users with M1 MacBook Air, M1 MacBook Pro 13-inch, and M1 Mac mini models are variously seeing problems with both third-party accessories like Bluetooth mice, keyboards, and headphones, as well as Apple products such as AirPods, Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard.

M1 owners have taken to the MacRumors forums and Reddit to discuss the glitches, and Mac mini owners appear to be worst affected, with the problems compounded by the fact that many rely on wireless peripherals to interact with their Mac in order to free up available ports.

One user reported identical issues after receiving a replacement unit from Apple, while another user was able to successfully connect their Logitech accessory using the included Unifying Receiver Bluetooth dongle. However, there's still no consensus on whether it's a software problem or something more deep-seated.

It's not clear how widespread the problems are, but Bluetooth issues certainly aren't unheard of on Macs. Nevertheless, the news will be disconcerting for anyone who relies heavily on Bluetooth connectivity and is waiting on a new M1 Mac. Apple has yet to respond to the issues, but we will update this article if we hear anything soon.

Having the same issue reflected on the article. Additionally, I have just move my USB hub from Mac mini Intel 2018 to the M1 and seeing "some accessories using too much power" error. Turned off/on the USB hub and recovers, but there seems to be some handling problems of USB devices on M1.

I had similar bluetooth issues on 2018 Mac mini. The problems were related to interference when using USB 3.0 (with both a Magic Mouse and Logitech). This time it seems different since obviously with the MacBook Air M1 I am not using USB 3.0 or any other wired connection so its not USB 3.0 interference related. My problem is when listening to music on my AirPod Pros, the audio drops regularly, like nearly every 45-60 seconds. It is quite obvious when it happens and is just terrible. I am confident that this is likely a software issue though. For me, I can make the problem go away by just restarting. I can listen without drops after the restart is complete. With prior hardware USB 3.0 interference on the 2018 Mac mini it never went away and I just resorted to using the USB C ports. I still love my M1, but wish this bluetooth problem would go away. I have two users on this laptop and wonder if that has something to do with the restart addressing the problem. I also wonder if its a function of the number of bluetooth profiles that are set up (I have 5 total). Maybe a restart purges the profiles and makes things work again.

Another vote for this being a Big Sur issue, or it also being a Big Sur issue. I have a 2019 Mac Pro with Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad 2, and Magic Mouse 2. The keyboard / trackpad / mouse were all pretty solid under Catalina (not perfect, but pretty solid). Under Big Sur I get intermittent pauses, lasting seconds, where no input device works. If I was typing the keystrokes will be queued and all blurt out after a pause. The trackpad is nearly unusable. Nothing has changed but the upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur.

I reconnected the keyboard and trackpad via USB to Lightning. They work fine over USB.

I also want to throw my hat in the ring here, I have had to return two Mac minis now, both had the bluetooth issue, but that wasn't even why I had to return them, the machines were unable to install the operating system after a proper disk erase (and yes, I even followed the terminal instructions). The first machine hung during migration assistant, now on Machine 3 I'm holding my breath until the next update comes out...Also having problems with both of my white HomePod minis...heavy sigh

I had exactly the same issues with my Mac mini 2018 hex core.

Having same issue with new M1 Mac mini - I added Mac mini shaped usb hub and external HDD bay.

Easily resolved by wrapping the USB A and C cables for a few inches nearest the Mac mini with thin copper tape.

Bingo once those cables are wrapped the issues of the Mac mini not 'seeing' my watch, the trackpad getting shaken, all went away.

I'm having constant speed / disconnect issues with Wifi. I can use my iPad or phone in the same spot at the same time without any issues.

My keyboard is attached to my computer (it's an Air). My bluetooth headphones are on my head, about 2-3 feet from the laptop. Regardless of the bluetooth headphones I use, they drop signal briefly about every 5-10 minutes. It's annoying.

OK, yesterday I reported that I have no issues with Sony 1000XM4 headphones but now there are some. I have audio stuttering once a few minutes and that is annoying as hell. More interesting fact is that this issue also happens when I'm using my AirPods Pro and they should be rock solid in terms of connection because of H1 chip.
It's definitely Big Sur/M1 issue. Fix please! It's annoying as hell.

This thread is disappointing. I was just about to buy my first Mac for myself. I got both of my kids Macbooks when they left for college. We have 4 iPhones and iPads as a family. My PC desktop is almost 8 years old and I was going to replace it witha M1 Mac Mini. I realized that my current keyboard and monitor won't work. So I need to buy something new. But between threads about problems with the HDMI-DVI interface and bluetooth connectivity issues it feels like the whole 'it just works' mantra really doesn't apply here.

I'm not sure I want to spring for new accessories and find out they may not work correctly. I mean in 2020, you should be able to connect a mouse and keyboard with absolute 100% reliability and performance.

Like a poll would do, instead of dozens of people posting useless anecdotal info?
Sometimes sharing the issues leads to finding solutions. Lots of knowledgeable folks visit mr.

It’s a forum, you may not like everything you read in here. It’s fine, just avoid the threads you find less useful.

The 16" machine is an all-new platform, and shares virtually nothing with the previous 15". The chassis, logic board, batteries, touchbar, keyboard - all different.

There's probably fewer changes to the M1 machines vs their respective previous generation in comparison to the 15" -> 16".

And here we have the technological illiteracy which is so widespread on this site.

Changing the freaking CPU architecture is a MUCH bigger deal than having a bigger chassis and screen!

Jesus wept...

I had never issues with bluetooth on my Mac mini 2018, but now I do with the M1. But it is only occasionally, no particular pattern as I can tell, and it is at most 2-4 times a day and last only for a few seconds and so far only affected my Magic Mouse.

If you had trouble with bluetooth on older Macs, I think this is something different.

I have a base M1 Mac Mini and Bluetooth is straight-up broken.

It started when I tried to update to macOS 11.0.1 and the computer hung after every restart in addition to my Magic Mouse and Bluetooth keyboard disconnecting. After a few times of that happening, the update somehow went through, I think after turning the computer off/on.

My Magic Mouse was also disconnecting after the computer went to sleep and sometimes for no reason, every time. Also, sometimes my Mini has simply not woken up from sleep. This is using the old 21" LG Ultrafine 4K monitor. So I've done two things there: set the computer in System Preferences to not go to sleep and just started using my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse.

My Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard was still disconnecting from time to time, so I'm now temporarily using my wife's Magic Keyboard until the wired keyboard/mouse I ordered from Amazon gets here.

I also tried some Apple Arcade games, figuring those should work ok...wrong. Trying The Pathless, the Nimbus wasn't even recognized, and my Xbox One controller exhibited controller drift to the point that it was unplayable. I also tried to play Samurai Jack with the Nimbus, and while that game did recognize the controller, it too exhibited controller drift which made the game unplayable.

I'm really really disappointed with the Bluetooth and sleep/wake performance here. I also have a 2016 12" Macbook and never had the slightest Bluetooth issue, so that makes me worried that it's related either to the M1 chip or the hardware design. My cheap wired keyboard/mouse coming on Monday should fix some of the problems, but it shouldn't be this way in the first place. It's still not going to fix the controller situation, or the sleep/wake issues, or the general Bluetooth issues. If it really is a hardware issue, then I'll have no choice but to return it. Apple better acknowledge this problem quickly, or this is going to blow up and get out of hand pretty quickly.
