Hmmm... might not just be South Korea. My wife's SE has been doing something similar (mostly just getting hot when charging, and also... not charging but actually draining while it's on its charger). I hope we hear more about this soon from Apple...

Either that watch was too tight or there are opportunists looking to file a lawsuit. And maybe I'm wrong and a cynical skeptic, but I feel like you'd take it off from being hot well before it started to burn your skin.

The report says he was sleeping with it on and woke up with a burn.

That's not a burn. My arm looks like that after wearing mine all day and take it off. Nothing new.
Agree, it looks like he wears his watch really, really tight. a burn would be very red, or a bad burn would be blistered
it does seem plausible. Mine didn’t have the obvious circle but the sensor dome does cause a bit of redness, indeed, more so the tighter the watch is worn.
I just got my SE today. No issues for me so far. I don’t intend to sleep wearing it, either. My guess is a lithium battery issue.
No (hardware) issues with mine either — and it was open box. I also haven’t worn mine sleeping. Don‘t feel a need for sleep tracking at this point and think I might smack it against the wall or something while I sleep. 🤷‍♂️I can be a restless sleeper at times.

This behavior is a bonus feature that Apple neglected to mention during their announcement. This is a throwback to the 1970's "mood rings". ;)

Whilst I'm sure it's just a very rare case it does point out an important fact.
It's one thing to have a phone battery fail and burn/explode, where you would instantly let go of it.
It's an entirely more serious matter of this happened to a device that's strapped to your body.

Let#s just hope this was a freak one-off issue, and no-one ever get's harmed by any devices now or in the future which are faulty and strapped to you.

hot bodies

and that watch is some kind of tight to leave an indention in your arm, mine can move fairly easily and still tight enough to take all of the readings that it does.
Oh well, but I don't believe I could wear something that tight or toight, as Johann van der Smut says.

I was thinking that too, but they may have had it under their pillow and were leaning on it or something like that. Because if that's how tight they normally have it... yikes!

Actually this has happened to my gf with her new Apple Watch Series 6. At least that's what it seems to be now. For a while we thought it might be a rash but now that I have read this and seen the pictures it looks way too similar to be a coincidence.

(And we're in Germany, not South Korea. ;) )
Are you saying she can’t tell if her watch is getting hot and burning her? That seems like something you’d notice.

Am I the only one to notice that the issue manifests as a yellow discoloration and the watch in one photo is right next to a yellow Sharpie marking pen? Coincidence? Maybe... or not.
Yea we will never hear of this ’problem again’ 6 users maybe wait till 6000 before saying there is a issue with thenapple Watch SE macrumors falls for it again. IF I WORKED FOR APPLE WOULD HATE MAC RUMORS.

It is strange. I would have thought SE was pretty much a series 4/5. haven’t heard of this problem with those models.
also, why only South Korea? Is the watch different in that market somehow?

Based on the specific spot all the reports are showing, seems like a component failure. Hopefully Apple can quickly trace this out. Having such risk on something strapped on you is not safe, no matter what.
