Apple store app worked fine for my wife’s phone - she’s on apples yearly replacement plan - but I had no luck there myself. After 17 minutes or so, when AT&T app finally let me order, that went through just fine. Both orders saved successfully @ 11/3 delivery.
Yippee!!!:D

The Apple App store would not come up for about 11 minutes for me. When it finally did, i was at 2-3 weeks out.
Same story for me tried to keep refreshing and all but took me til that time and my preapproval went in half minute but still the delay by then

What a mess. I was in the Apple store app and had my order placed within seconds after it coming available—our so I thought. I got to the section where it asked me to confirm some details for my AT&T account (I'm on the AT&T upgrade plan), and then it timed out saying they were having problems contacting my carrier and that my phone was "reserved."

I finally got an email with my reservation number to complete my order, but it was telling me my shopping cat was empty. I managed to get through to sales support this morning and they told me the empty cart was a "known issue" and that I'd get a new email later to complete my order. My midnight deadline to finish my order is fast approaching, and still no email other than the original one with a reservation number (but no ship date, since my order never completed).

The only change is that as of a couple hours ago, now if I click the link in the email it is no longer an empty cart, but instead is trying to give me the iPhone Upgrade plan, which is not what I reserved. Of course I can't contact anyone at Apple (their automated system hangs up on me), so at this point I'm expecting my order to be effectively "canceled" once the midnight deadline rolls around.

Every you I think that the iPhone buying experience can't get any worse, and every year I am unpleasantly surprised. What a crappy experience.

Part of it was user fault as well. Saw so many videos on YouTube displaying this. People were "refreshing" the App & not killing/restart.

Then once they got in, they fiddled for seconds on whether to find your favorites or just do the whole process. Again milliseconds wasted here.

Always account for the unexpected! Very few had payment with them, a account pin, or entered information in incorrect. I don't give a rats arse if you preloaded it.

What took me roughly 35 seconds - 40 took most over a minute. You'll get it weeks later this year, but as they say in sports...

There's always NEXT year Folks!!!

Seems to me they played favorites for IUP members since I have two friends on the program that got in and out in no time.
No it only worked if you could connect to the store. Took me til 12 past on the store app the IUP preaproval was then fast but I was already at November 17-24 so I see no advantage for me being IUP preapproved

I can confirm the second half of this story. I used multiple devices starting relentlessly at 11:59 and the store did not open for me until 12:10, by which point everything was a 2-3 week delay.

Moreover, I got the delay treatment (carrier unavailability) and when I came back in the morning, my "reservation" was now showing a 3-4 week delay, so Apple lied about holding my reservation.

I'm not surprised. It's like the Soup Nazi. Every year I and millions of others experience the same shoddy treatment and every year we keep coming back because the product is so good.

But I will not be at all surprised one year to hear that an angry pitchfork and torch bearing mob burned down Apple Park some day in late October.

Why on Earth are people complaining about few weeks delay? Right now it is 5-6 weeks delay. I will be happy with two weeks delay.

Because it's been TEN YEARS NOW and Apple has screwed this up EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I had the same experience with both Apple and AT&T. Started at 14 minute wait then that time kept going up and up and after 47 minutes I finally got in and all they had was 64gb silver. Apple store was as bad for me. Took forever (understandably) for the apple store to come online and many many different errors. Sometimes I would get to where you enter credit card info then get apple store is down, also got unknown error and could not connect to carrier and sometimes would get a spinning circle for a minute then would take me back to the preorder page.
Just wish it had went smoother. I started out 2-3 weeks and ended up with thankfully 4-5 weeks. It will be a great experience I'm sure once the phone gets here early December.

ME TOO!! exactly same issue. Since I got the preapproved thing. I could ONLY preorder through the apple store app. It just feels like we did extra preparation and in the end it not only not helped but put us at a disadvantage ?!!
Does seem that way doesn’t it?

Jeff Williams should be addressing that issue then.

I didn't use the att app. Woke up around 5 ET and went to att.com and ordered space gray 64gig and received and received an expected ship date between 11/2/17 and 11/10/17. kinda surprised, no problem!

I had this same issue. Took 13 min for the Apple Store to open on my iPhone.. I got my order in within a few seconds due to having already pre-approved Apple upgrade. But my delivery was 2-3 weeks. Super disappointed in Apple not opening the store up to everybody. My friend I was talking to had already ordered his and went back to bed before the Apple store opened up for me.

there seems to be no apparent rhyme or reason for who of us got in or not, and no advantage for us preapproved IUP customers if we did not get in the pre 10 minute window. Load balancing or whatever the server issue seemed to be random and just luck of the draw, although I have no statistics or way of getting any to see if it was regions, particular ISP's or any such factor. It is what it is, yes disappointed not to have my toy sooner but heck I am getting by thanksgiving so I was hoping that would be worse cause scenario on getting the phone.

Yeah, once again, At&t really screwed up! You would think that this would be pretty simple now. It happens once a year!

Was super simple for me. Took about 2 minutes. Apple was certainly no better than ATT or anywhere else.

I mean it's AT&T, you'd think people would have learned by now.

I find these comments funny simply because even Apple screwed the pooch. I’ve pre ordered 5 iPhones through ATT and received them release day every time. Hell I even ordered the iPhone 6 at 11 am pre order day and received at launch.

“Unexpected delays”. Now thats a funny one. Is this the first time you’ve ever heard of problems during an iPhone launch? This crap literally happens every year

I am an AT&T customer and used the Apple Store app...finally allowed me to begin the process about 4 minutes after start, and it even said "delivery or pickup by Nov. 3" but when I went to activate, I got the "can't reach the carrier servers" error...which ultimately prompted an alert from Apple that my iPhone X reservation was made, but that they would follow with an email later to complete my order. I just received the follow-up email an hour ago, and now delivery is scheduled between Nov. 17 - Nov. 24. Frustrating for ordering 4 minutes after availability, and frankly, as SOON as the app allowed me...

At least you got a follow up email. I did the same as you and haven’t gotten anything. Apple support basically just shrugs and says wait. Att says everything is fine. No one knows what’s happening. It’s awful.

"Walk into an Apple Store on Nov 3 and be able to pick up an X" MY ASS

Why do we let Apple lie to us? It seems all of the supply constraint rumors were true, at least to some degree, yet they flat out spun it around to make it sound like there would be plenty of inventory. Bull-****ing-****, Tim Cook.
What? WHy do you feel the need to doubt launch day phones? They have had them every single year available to customers who want to pick one up at the Apple store. You must be a blast at parties

We all get electricity & water much more reliable, than carriers do it perfectly as well with orders.

It happens, and when it happens, we expect it to go smoothly.

Tried web and App here in UK, no access until 8:10, then all iPhones X's had 2-3 weeks

Exactly the same here. Delivery 13-20 of November, ordered at 8:08AM through web site, app would not come online. However, I spoke with an Apple advisor last evening because my order was not showing in the app and I had to link it, he said that even though the delivery says the date it says, we should expect to see some improvements next week and it is not necessarily going to be delivered on the confirmed period.

Hi as a purchaser of the Original Iphone ..and waiting in line at an AT&T store for 6hrs on the ground ..i laugh at the whining ..”i had to wait 47 min while watching tv from my couch eating dorritos ”

Maybe you should offer your IT abilities next year to handle the large influx of those trying to order. Although it only took me 29 minutes to order two phones (two tabs in Safari on my iPad), I look forward to the Vol7ron implementation next year to cut my time in half.
