Not trying to be mean about it, but this is exactly why I switched away from the AT&T next plan to the Apple iPhone Upgrade plan. I can trust Apple to have a decent plan in place, website that works, and their pre-approval process was nice this year for the X. AT&T, not so much. They should stick to being a data pipe.

This just in...tomorrow is the day after today.

Of course some folks had issues ordering, myself included but hey that's life! A large number of people hit the servers at once, issues are bound to arise. There is a lot of technology at work here

Want to stop it in the future? Work with eBay to prevent new devices in general from being sold for 30-45 days since release. There are 1000s on ebay list for $2000+ and some at $10k. True thats fair practice but its taking units from folks just wanting from themselves. Take that option away and watch the effect it has on pre-orders.

I had the same problem. The Apple Store app did not open until 12:05 for me, and the website did not come back online on my computer until several minutes after that. Irked that this is the first time I have not been able to get a preorder for launch day, but the November 10-17 window is not bad considering several other people's situations.

T-Mobile wasn’t doing so hot either, though I’ve come to expect that.

To start with, the pre-order available notification I signed up for still hasn’t arrived.

I got distracted and didn’t try to order with their app until well after midnight, and while the store was slow it did load after a couple tries... until checkout. Then I got an unhelpful error and a surreptitiously emptied cart.

After re adding to my cart and typing my credit card in six times it finally worked and the order went through around 1am or so. Actually still showed shipping on launch date, but the only way that’s true is if the order process was so broken nobody else could order until then either.

Also now it’s showing a $25 shipping charge on my order status even though the checkout page and receipt show $0, and customer service assured me it’s free.

Although this is still better than the 6 and 7 launches. Both times I had to call because their site was completely broken. (Though to their credit, I did get a phone at launch both times.)

You’d think multi-billion dollar companies that know full well hundreds of thousands of orders for literally their most expensive product are going to hit at an exact moment could prepare for it appropriately, but they repeatedly screw it up year after year. I’d be ashamed if I was in charge of their storefront.

This exact thing happened to me as well. Apple store was live about 3:06 finally, but I was 2 weeks out.
Paid full price for an ATT 256.
then get an email from apple I need to confirm carrier, get the email link and it's for a white 64 gb phone I never even ordered, and it's now 6 weeks out.
I have original order (not confirmed I suppose sitting in my order bin for 10-17th nov)
no idea

I had the same thing happen with AT&T's app and website. Was able to order through the Apple Store app after about a minute or two of it not coming up.

2-3 weeks started way earlier than 15 minutes, the app didn’t come up for me in the UK till 15-20 minutes past, the website came up about 5-6 minutes past and I clicked through in 5 seconds or so and still got dropped to 2-3 weeks.

Don't they charge for that? If not, I'll take a look if it turns out they used UPS.

Changing the delivery day, changing the address, upgrading delivery speed and confirmed delivery times costs money, but the other features, including Hold for Will Call, are free.

This was the most screwed up pre-order from Apple ever. When are we going to get past this crap!!

First Apple says, members of the Apple upgrade program can go to the Apple app starting October 23, 2017. I go to the App on October 23, enter the information requested, successfully completed the information(ss, income, BD), credit report was run and was told to come back to the app on pre-order day. Woke up, came back to the app 10 minutes before 12:01 am PDT. Had browser window opened to the Apple store and the AT&T site and two devices opened up to the Apple app. Nothing showed any hint of being able to start an order until 10 minutes after when one browser pointed to Apple.com allowed me to start an order. I got to the point where I was able to put in again my SS #, BD, and income. The order stalled and I could not complete because of comm errors to ANY credit card company. However not before my CREDIT WAS RUN AGAIN. I got a reservation number, which was followed up by an email this morning, it which I completed the order, again freaking asking for my SS #, BD, and yearly income, which according to the credit reporting agency resulted in a third freaking hard pull to my credit report. The delivery time was the same as to where I completed an order on the Apple App store for full price all at once for the same delivery time of Nov 17-24, 2017.

Apple did nothing right in this order process and they don't really care and if you were to say something to them they would tell you to go F**K your self. WHAT A DAMM SCREWUP. My credit took three hard hit and maybe a fourth because there was an order that never completed on the Apple app store. Apple promised and lied to a whole bunch of things starting with you go to the app on October 23, 2017 and get all the pre work done. It would have been easier to just go by a Samsung S whatever and go on with my life. I know my credit score would be better.

I logged in to AT&T's website 2 hours after the release started and had my order placed in under 60 seconds for release day delivery. Let the chaos die down, don't order through Apple's website (as it's inventory goes the fastest) and everybody will be alright...

Why don't they just accumulate pre-orders for the first half hour and make it a lottery? Would make it more fair in my opinion.

It is a lottery, I’m pretty damn sure they pick the areas and times people can get into the store and if they get launch day or weeks later, I’ve no doubt that it isn’t just down to how quick you make the order.

This is what I am going to do.

I just did a chat with AT&T on their support and wanted to file a formal complaint. They said to mail it and they would make a note on my account. Um its 2017 AT&T, snail mail is poor customer service.

Same, Apple Store app came online ~X:07 AM, and by then was 1-2 weeks..
Which one did you order? I was like a heroin addicted rat desperately hitting a paddle to get into the Apple Store App until ~ 00:08 Pacific at which time Apple lifted the velvet rope.
I think to manage the onslaught of customers, I think somebody else said they only let a finite number of users in at any given time.
I was able to order my pre-approved space-gray 256GB but the Apple store App was offering to deliver it a week out ~Nov 10, OR I could pick up at the Apple store on Nov 3; obviously I chose Nov 3 at my Apple store!
The App did offer to place my pick up time window onto my calendar (that was nice, since Apple also included my order number)
Went back to Mac Rumors and saw some folks sharing their success and saying they got a confirmation email from Apple.
I checked my mail; no confirmation! :-(
Went back to the Apple Store App to check my order history; no record of me purchasing anything. :-o
Went back to the App's pre-order section to see if I needed to restart the process: The App said my order was being processed.

At this point, "rat-boy" said "there is nothing I can do here" and went to bed.
checked email when I got up and saw that the confirmation email arrived 0313 as I dreamed of opening a phone with my face.
Checked App and my the X was in my order history.
Now "rat boy" has nothing better to do than flip calendar pages to Nov 3rd...

My story: done this before, was prepared (i thought)
got all my devices ready for action.
set my alarm for 11:40 pm PDT (i thought)
went to bed but hard to get to sleep, excited finally got to sleep
woke up at 12:15 ,no alarm (i didn't activate it).... oh s......
ran downstairs to where my mac air was set to apple.com site, iPhone 7 set on apple app, iPad mini4 set on MyAT&T
my AT&T showing a wait of 16 minutes to get in, screw that.

went to apple app on iphone7, saw 11/17-11/24 delivery date (well, that's what i get for being too late, done this before and know how this works) stepped through to "pay", got an error to try again, tried again, nothing, hit apple pay and almost immediately its done. before i can close up my mac, i see 2 emails from apple - i have 2 64GB silvers ordered !!
apparently on of those error attempts went through. okay, will deal with that later, off to bed.

get up friday morning am reading on mac rumours and apple insider the nights problems and remember how fouled up AT&T was. just for laughs i go to myAT&T and go through their preorder at 6:30 am PDT and surprise surprise i can get my 64GB silver with a nov2-nov 10 ship date, so i went for it.

now i have 3 iphone X 64GB silver ordered !
this afternoon i went and canceled one of the apple orders today and
AT&T now confirmed at 1:49 PM today :
Good news! Your order xx-XXXXXXXXXX is almost ready to ship. Check status:XXXXXXX

will soon cancel the other order through apple
comedy of errors that worked out for me

T-Mobile will be getting my business going forward, as, my test SIM with Pre-Pay service activated, has worked at all of my primary locations where I need service. Watching this forum, people with AW3 have had little issues, Pixel 2 is fully supported, and, there was little to no issues with X orders, It is clear that somehow T-Mobile is more established, and better suited to support the US Market than, Oddly, American Telephone and Telegraph.

I just switched from AT&T to T-Mobile.... and since I'm old I switched to their Unlimited 55+ plan :D

https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/t-mobile-one-unlimited-55?icid=WMM_TM_Q31725GOAT_V53D05SGJSG9625

Two lines everything unlimited for $ 60.- including Tax and fees..... I will be saving a boatload over AT&T.

I posted this in a different thread, but figured I would se if anyone else had this issue...

After finally getting Apple's iOS app to work, I was able to add the phone to my cart, put 100 down to lower the cost by a couple of dollars, but then during the Apple Pay transaction, it timed out and said that it was unsuccessful. So I tried the payment again an it went right through. A few minutes later I get 2 Apple confirmations with different web order numbers for the phone. Now, I got the AT&T Next agreement for both web orders and they reference the same agreement number.

While I am sure that Apple's system will see it as a duplicate when it goes to ship and not ship the second phone, I am kinda hesitant to have them cancel one order in the off chance that it screws the other order. And forget calling them as their phone system is not taking calls at this time. Has anyone seen this in the past?

The exact same thing happened to me. Apple showed two orders for the 64Gb I was ordering for my wife - and when I checked Verizon to see what they had, it showed three 64Gb phone orders! I didn't want to take anything for granted, so I spent an hour on the phone / web chat with Apple and Verizon, respectively. The net of it was that Apple canceled one of the orders and left the other intact. VZW still shows multiple orders, but there's not going to be any corresponding order from Apple with which to link those extras and so I expect VZW will just delete them appropriately.
