Actually it was... I was on a flight once and a fat guy was sitting in the middle seat. As he went to sit down he lifted the arm rest and then basically sat on me. I asked him to move and he got offended. So I called the flight attendant and asked for 50% off my ticket as I was clearly only sitting in 50% of my seat. It is easy to say that they aren't bothering you but sadly life is not that simple and some of them feel the need to make an issue out of their weight. I also pay higher insurance premiums because of peoples weight so I take issue with that as well. Obviously it doesn't apply to everyone but it does for the vast majority sadly.
That's a valid complaint - but people cracking on fat people is hardly limited to airline circumstances only. It's every day, on message boards, on the street, etc. There's really no need for it. Airplanes are probably the worst example, because there are tons of annoyances perpetrated on passengers by other passengers. I sat next to a man on a flight that had body odor so strong, a woman across the aisle had to hold a handkerchief up to her nose. My eyes actually watered, and I'm not even exaggerating. I can't count the number of times I've been seated next to (or within earshot) of screaming, bouncing children who interfered with my comfort and made me unable to relax, sleep, etc. So while I think it's a valid complaint, it's one of the very, very few circumstances when a person's weight directly affects you.
As to health insurance, like I said, unless you're going to direct similar hatred to smokers (who cost far, far more than fat people), the uninsured, people that have tons of kids, etc., it's really evidence of more singling out fat people for ridicule.
I could actually give a pretty thorough analysis of how people with children actually cost everyone more time, money, and aggravation than pretty much any other group. But it's much more acceptable to blame everything on fat people.
