Hey Tim, here's a free tip that will save Apple loads of money. Stop doing annual new releases for macOS and iOS and release them every two years or so. The most solid and best software versions were back when Apple was doing two-year release cycles (yes, I'm looking at you, Snow Leopard).

Currently, the biggest issue with the annual release cycle is that once developers finally have ironed out the bugs and their software fully to support the latest macOS, Apple releases a new version that forces them to start from the beginning again. This is a very bad cycle and benefits literally no one.

And nothing really stops Apple from bringing some new features with regular software updates; the whole iOS doesn't need another big facelift to simply add a few new features to the Notes app etc.

freezes? thats what I abandoned blackberry!

its common knowledge now , not to upgrade your OS until the next version is about to be released. Now if only Apple could stop annoying us about upgrading to their new and buggy OS.
It's common knowledge? I totally agree with not jumping on a brand new x.0 release when it comes out and wait for bug fixes to roll out, but waiting to update to last year's major iOS version before the current year's to ensure it's stable/usable is embarrassing for Apple to say the least.

I'm on 16.2 (didn't have much of a choice given my iPhone 14 came with 16.0), there are bugs that are mostly manageable, but it's indeed still buggy.

Aren't all of those new iOS versions tested by basically all Apple employees before they are published?

HomeKit “change” is a disaster and has led to nothing but bugs. Also scanning QR codes YOU CANT ZOOM THE DAMN CAMERA

They could just have feature updates like Windows is doing (Android does it too, but mostly only for Pixel phones) instead of annual releases that have fewer and fewer major features anyway.

Updated to 16.2 from 15.7 (iPhone 11 and iPad M1) 2 days ago. So far so good. I install through ipsw file. Battery during standby and attached MK is also good (same as in 15.7). I didn’t use Apple Music, HomePod/AirPod and Siri, if those made difference.

This is just a Scott Forstall 2.0 moment but much worse. “People will keep buying it cause it’s Apple”. Told you all along they lost their path which led them to immense succes, every big great company did this.

The old gang that made Apple is retiring or ready to be, the new recruits slipping in have no idea what the Apple DNA is and just focus on $$$.

They better pick their next CEO thoughtfully, cause it’s going to be their downfall Sculley Style.

There is no SJ to save them this time.

Sad times.

I've seen several bugs that haven't been resolved since 16 was released last year:
  • Weird display issues when the phone is switched between portrait and landscape modes.
  • Apps hanging and crashing randomly.
  • Bluetooth connection drops and then reconnects randomly while in use.
  • Focus working so sporadically that I've had to turn the feature off because it's so bad.
  • Constantly asking for PIN to be confirmed for iCloud; as soon as I put it in, it asks for it again.
This has to be the worst version rollout that I've seen in quite some time.

For me it's hard to pinpoint which SW is responsible for the issues I have because many are for the cross device features. iOS, iPadOS, macOS... but probably iCloud in general have just been a mess. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Support. I was told 3 weeks ago that they have to escalate to engineering and someone will call me back. Still waiting...

I am confident that the "solution" will be some service that I am not yet paying for.

I think there’s so many persistent bugs because apple can’t figure out how to fix them - without creating even more.
Clearly iOS has become so complicated and convoluted that nobody there really understands the details of what’s going on.

Never really had many problems until iOS 16.

My 14 pro max screen randomly goes all black once a week , requiring a force restart . Apps freeze and get stuck on the screen almost every day , requiring me to click the power button and use faceid to get back into the phone . Not really deal breaking stuff but it can be a little inconvenient at times

For me the problem has mostly been sluggish on my 14 Pro Max. I dont know if apps need to be updated to work better with the new iOS or if it’s iOS itself. Apps just get stuck requiring a force close. Other things just take along time to respond. As for bugs, it just seems that Apple continues to add to a growing list of bugs with every release.

Beating up on Apple for me is like kicking a kitten. It pains me. But seriously, enough with the psychic predictions of what I might want to do next and just make the click I just performed work as advertised.

I have an iphone 14 Pro Max and sometimes the screen won't respond to when I tap to wake it up from lock screen, Always On or not doesn't matter.
When this happens the only thing I can do is to use the power button to turn on the screen. Press it quickly and the screen comes on.
One time with Always On active the screen was completely black when I looked at it and I had to press the power button to wake it.
This definitely gets annoying. Hoping 16.3 will fix this.

I know Craig has a great personality with amazing stage presence and all, but iOS and macOS have never been as stable as they used to be before he took over their development. Minor bugs just continue to carry over each year. I've reported some so many times year after year that I just finally gave up. If it is not a major bug, him and his team just don't seem to care. All they care about is pumping out new features year after year.

iOS 17 is supposed to make iOS 16 stable and won't offer many new features which IMO is a wise decision. Apart from the stability issues I think that they need to reiterate and improve on the existing features rather than throw a bunch of new ones and introduce yet again a new set of problems. Apple is very obviously struggling with fleeing talent especially in the software area, it's very ironic given their unlimited budget which indicates unaddressed management issues.

Get ready for Apple Support’s resolution for everything: keep your devices up to date. Remember, secrecy must be protected at all costs and actually solving a single customer’s problem would not protect secrecy.

Enjoying my mature and stable iOS 15.7.2 instal on my iPhone X. I remember this time last year, my organization was forcing me to upgrade to iOS 15. No such notification for iOS 16.
