Is that my office network or every day Youtube is down in the afternoon?

No that's a bug in the OS. The signal is still useable. Apple told Walt Mossberg that. It's in the process of being fixed.

"Yet, in some places where the signal was relatively weak, the iPhone 4 showed no bars, or fewer bars than its predecessor. Apple says that this is a bug it plans to fix, and that it has to do with the way the bars are presented, not the actual ability to make a call. And, in fact, in nearly all of these cases, the iPhone 4 was able to place calls despite the lack of bars."

Although I strongly believe this shows poor quality control and is unacceptable, let's face it, if this were with any other company for any other consumer product, most people would just shrug this off.

All of the defective units will be replaced eventually. But, I'm waiting until August or September to get my new iPhone 4. Brand new technology can be a little hit or miss. I guess I was lucky not to have had any problems with the i7 iMac since I bought it fairly close to the original release date.

Still a pain in the butt for those who have to replace their units.

600,000 Units, there will be some problems

Well that didn't take long. Maybe I'll wait a month or so before ordering mine.

Any company that delivers 600,000 units will always have some defects. Without having any real statistics, it is impossible to know if this is a significant problem or not. I think the hysteria may be somewhat premature, although I'll be upset if mine looks like that when I get home.

What if you people with pee stains on your phone rotate it 90 degrees. Does the pee stain stay in the same spot?

Also sniff the phone.

So...

So I am getting my pre-ordered iPhone 4 from AT&T tommorow, if there is an issue with yellow spotting defect can I have it replaced at an Apple store, or will I have to go through the AT&T store?

My fingers are crossed that wont happen, but if it did, as long as they replace it, I would certainly be okay with holding on to the defective on for a few weeks, as long as I know it will be replaced.

But if you keep reading this same review, you come to this paragraph:

"However, on at least six occasions during my tests, the new iPhone was either reporting “no service” or searching for a network while the old one, held in my other hand, was showing at least a couple of bars. Neither Apple nor AT&T could explain this. The iPhone 4 quickly recovered in these situations, showing service after a few seconds, but it was still troubling."

... but if it wasn't for this article I would not have noticed. It is quite faint on mine, and only against white is it really visible. If it stays this faint, I won't bother getting an exchange ... if more appear however ... mmm

I sent me wife the link to the article and her new iPhone 4 has the problem as well, except all down the right side of the screen.

But her exact words, "If you didn't tell me to look for it, I probably would never have noticed it."

I'll try to get a good pic when I get home.

Are you surprised? We're still on AT&T. It's like a new hot rod on a dirt road. It's still a dirt road.

LOL.

No way to tell at this point if this is the normal hand-wringing or something more.

People ALWAYS have hysterical fits when new Apple products are released. Are the defects prevalent or rare or extremely rare or what? (That's a rhetorical question -- the Internets is the worst place to ask for perspective on a problem.

WHO CARES???? Apple will warranty their product. If anything i get to use and iphone and abuse it and get a new one in a few months...I find this a win win!!!

Since my MBP didn't suffer from the yellow screen issue, I guess that means its my time to get a little pee on the screen. Guess we will find out tomorrow...

Early adopters need to pay more attention to Apple advertisements. ;)

Chinese can't do anything right!

I've had problems with China made products for a very long time. They just can't do anything right. For the prices Apple charges us for their products, said products must be without defects. Otherwise, it's no better than bargain basement. And lately, Apple's quality has been at the bargain basement price!
It's time to move production somewhere else, or lower prices!!!!!!!!!!

Oh jesus, I don't think this should have been posted. I'm sure there were thousands who wouldn't have noticed it if their phones had it, and now you guys ruined it for everyone!

I honestly don't think many would've noticed, but now I'm sure everyone will be looking for the discoloration right out of the box

I hope Apple pays a price for their lousy amateur botched launch.

Yeah because most other manufacturers would have pulled off a flawless loss of over 600k devices on day one. Oh wait, I can't think of who has done that -- most fail far worse with much smaller launches.

The thing about Apple is that they will make it right if some units are defective. And at least the phone won't crash once per day like my friend's Motorola Droid.
