What a crock of ****. I had to deal with this piss yellow issue on the 3GS and it's STILL not much better after exchanging it 10+ times. Apple changed out the screen on a brand new unit out of the box for a screen that was mustard yellow to the point where you could barely read it. They said they could see no problem. BS!

I was hoping with the new "Retina Display" that this problem would have been rectified. I guess not. I will NOT put up with this **** again. Not going to happen. Apple needs to fix this crap now!

If it's an isolated thing, ok. However it does not seem like it. It seems to be another damn good screen/bad screen lottery again.

****ing ********!

relax you dont have to put up with it, no one is forcing you to get a iphone, its just a phone, get a blackberry

So because I choose to buy something I should accept a faulty device? Lol. Ok. Please go back to your hole :)

Yellow Spots

My new iPhone 4 had two spots right out of the box. They are located at the bottom of the phone, just left of center. There are two of them...about the diameter of a thumb tack.

Guess I'll have to wait until the Apple Store replenishes their supply before I can trade this sucker in.

I've attached a photo of the spots.

this is bound to happen in any production run. now im not saying apple shouldn't have better QC, because lets face, ever since about 5 years ago their QC has gone majorly downhill.

Gizmodo is reporting 19 cases. thats 19 out of 600,000 units....and remember those are only pre-ordered units arriving today and tomorrow, those numbers dont take into account pre-order's since apple announced that.

for right now it seems to me like a small issue, but an issue none the less. personally id wait till phones get released in stores to make this judgement call.

it sucks for everyone who got one and believe me I feel your pain, but lets not blow this out of proportion, until we know exactly how many phones are affected.

I guess having it set up in store has its advantages. Surely the spots would show up in store, and just walk out with a proper phone.

Like it's been said. Nothing is perfect. Less than 2%, if that isn't huge news except if your in the 2%. And even if you are, just go and replace it.

7 HOURS TILL I DEPART FOR MY NEW IPHONE!

Don't settle for defects.

Fanboys will disagree, but it is usually best to avoid purchasing new Apple products as soon as they are released. It is usually better to wait a couple of months until Apple fixes most of the problems with the new product, and then purchase.

Don't listen to fanboys who tell you to stop complaining and "deal with it" by keeping your poorly manufactured Apple product. For the premium that Apple charges, you should raise hell until Apple takes back your defective product and exchanges it for a flawless one. Since you pay a premium (actually, the highest premium in the industry), you deserve a premium product.

the problem with my screen is that its all streaky like underneath the glass.. i thought the wait for my iphone 4 was over..

My old iPhone had this. Waited a few months until the warrantee was about to expire and then brought it in. Replaced on the spot, new 1 year warrantee (that I needed when another problem developed with the replacement). Good way to get a new shiny one after yours gets all scratched up over time (if we are to believe Engadet).

interesting is that every phone ive had replaced keeps the original phones warranty not a new year. all replaced at the apple store...

Mine has always been this way on my 3G. If I have wifi or 3g turned on for a very long extended period of time, I get little yellow discolorations on the bottom right and top left of my screen.

Agreed. People who buy this early should know that any new product launch comes with hiccups, some software, some hardware, but always issues. I got one because I want the iPhone 4 badly enough that im willing to deal with issues and get it replaced after the genius bar gets stock. Dont buy new products (especially Apple ones) unless your willing to deal with a few hiccups on your way to happiness :)

LOL I hope you get another yellow screen. You deserve it.

lol who buys apple products on launch date???

sukas...dats who.

i'll be waiting til next years version without any problems.
While I wouldn't have put it that way, indeed. It was scary enough updating to iOS4 on my 3GS, hoping it would actually work.

NEVER buy the first version of anything.

As far as QC goes, it isn't what it used to be, but it's still better than the rest of the market. Just look at the competition. We live in a low cost disposable society. The Apple that had top notch QC is dead and gone. If you want it back, then we have to pay a lot more for our stuff. Dell started outsourcing to China back in the 90's and killed IBM, Gateway, Packard Bell, and almost killed Compaq in whoring out themselves over price. Apple shut down a lot of their plants like the one in Cork, Ireland that made some good stuff and shipped everything over to China.

So like you said 600K are on their way over here. If 10k or less are defective, then that's pretty good considering the way they make their workers make our products.

I've had problems with China made products for a very long time. They just can't do anything right. For the prices Apple charges us for their products, said products must be without defects. Otherwise, it's no better than bargain basement. And lately, Apple's quality has been at the bargain basement price!

It's not made but assembled in China. FFS-IPS LCD modules are made by LG Display in Korea. I believe LG thoroughly tested the modules before shipping to Foxconn.

It's time to move production somewhere else, or lower prices!!!!!!!!!!

+1.

I have this issue with a 1st gen iPhone

Okay, so this doesn't relate to the iPhone 4, but I have this issue with my 1st gen iPhone. I've owned the phone since launch day.

Basically, the spot is in the top left corner, below the carrier/signal icon. To me, it looks like it would be caused by heat. It looks just like the spots on these iPhone 4s though.

So maybe it's from the battery? I don't really care about the spot on my 1st gen iPhone. It didn't appear till about a year ago. I'm just posting this in case anyone has an idea of what may cause this... perhaps there's a similar component that has switched places between the generations, from the top left corner of the 1st gen to the bottom right corner of the 4th gen?

I'd love to hear what you think about this.

My iPhone 4 is set to ship on the 5th, so I'm wondering if I should cancel and wait till these defects are sorted out.

This one is also a big issue: http://gizmodo.com/5571171/iphone-4-loses-reception-when-you-hold-it-by-the-antenna-band
