Do you mean "cerebrally challenged"?

I was able to fit the 6 Plus in my front pocket and surprisingly it felt less bulky than my Nexus 4. If I was at a wedding, however, I would have it in my inside breast pocket.

I was immediately aware of how slippery it felt and would be more concerned about dropping it than bending it in my pant pocket.

Yep that's the one :p

I hate to be that guy but was this an *cough* average weighing American putting strain on the phone in his pants?

Yes yes, snarky European here ...

i'm actually considering returning mine after seeing this video from UnboxTherapy on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znK652H6yQM&feature=youtu.be

iphone 6 plus bend test

The most interesting part of that video was at the beggining where he said he looked at his iphone after seeing the online report and his was bent slightly. So this means the numbers are starting to come in. That's the important thing not the 2-3 that bent out of millions that haven't/hadnt.

Couldn't really tell how much pressure he put on the device to bend it but he's respected in the filed and he seemed truly gutted he could bend it. Could be a big apple problem. Maybe in manufacturing Foxconn cut corners? Will Apple shift blame?

In that case, Apple should engineer the phone to be waterproof and and to be sprayed down with antibacterial spray and wiped clean since we all know that people use these things in the bathroom and that plenty have dropped their devices in the toilet.

As for the thinness, I agree, I wish they left the thickness the same as the iPhone 5/5S, and just made the battery bigger (for the 6 and the 6+). This would have not increased the thickness that much so that it was still able to be held in one hand, increased the battery life even more, and eliminated the protruding camera ring on the back, which doesn't bother me that much really since I put a case on my phone each time anyway. Have a Bodyglove case and a Spigen Thin-fit case for it so the size is already there anyway (for my 6+). Mine is able to be in my thigh pocket and not get bent. I also usually wear cargo pants or short so plenty of room in there to fit the Plus.

100% just like cars should be made amphibious, because people always drive into lake's.

Is putting a phone in your pocket really unreasonable?

If I was given an iPhone 6 plus, I would not put it in my pocket. But everytime i had to find a place put it, I would be cursing the stupid phone.

Since I would not buy an iPhone that bends easy this will not be a problem for me.

If this is a real problem, then fix is really easy, don't buy an iPhone.

Could be defective batches, who really knows, i am just trying to figure how this happens, when I had the Galaxy S4 which is bigger then my 6, i would put it in jeans pocket on my right pocket(i always put my phone there in right pocket with nothing in it) , never really felt any pressure on my pockets, i always adjust my phone In my pocket it i am driving or sitting in a car or sitting, since its a little tighter pockets and fit when wearing jeans, i just put my phone in my right pocket towards the middle (by crotch area) if i am wearing jeans i shift it in my pocket torwards my crotch area instead of the edges of my thigh in my pocket and that seems to do a great job

Yes they are aluminum, but they arent that easy to bend at all, it needs a good amount of pressure to bend like that, I am almost beyond positive they test this for sure before bringing out a device like this

They defitnetly do bend tests on their devices, put it through a bunch of tests, It could very well be defective aluminum chasis or weakened chasis, either way if this occurs to anyone its obviously a instant gurantee free replacement from Apple undoubtedbly

This is nonsense in my opinion and these phones must be faulty. Besides the aluminium there are rigid components such as the glass screen that are more brittle than plastic and the bending must be caused by excessive heat or humid conditions. I cannot see how they could deform in such a short space of time to the extent that Apple must replace for what is deemed 'reasonable' use. Those with deformed phones should ask for free replacements in my own humble opinion and not stop until they get them. Apple has been good to me in the past at replacing phones out of warranty with faults. This is after all a premium device.

For what it's worth I have not exercised caution so far when sitting and not yet experienced any issues with mine so fingers crossed!

Here is Unbox Therapy's video:

If you have a 6 Plus be VERY careful with it, as he say's it's a giant slab of aluminium and that metal bends...

Worst case scenario is if you bend the battery and it explodes.

Great video, can we get an apologist try this with an iPhone 4? It should be easy to bend by hand too!

Do you know anyone who's legs are as hot as 660.3 deg C? (don't answer that :p)

I really love my iPhone 6 plus, but after seeing pictures and this video about "how easy" it could bend I just don't feel comfortable right now knowing my close to $500 phone can bend "easily"... I did just print a return label and if I change my mind later, i'll pick one up later this year or just wait

If the phone is too big for your pants pocket, perhaps a jacket pocket or holster.

----------

I find it funny that any reasonable person would expect a phone that's too big for a pocket to fit in said pocket without bending.

No pockets required

You can bend in iphone 6 4.7 also. If you can bend in iphone 5, you can bend an iPhone 6.

How are people fitting a 6+ in their pocket to begin with?

By placing it in the pocket. Just like any iphone. Fits fine in my pockets.

Tomorrows headline

Is this the bEnd of apple

/lame joke

Seriously I like  so hope they can recover from this. Hopefully it's just a manufacturing defect introduced by Foxconn.

Very nice. Now, did you see HOW much pressure he had to exert in one place, to get that bend? His thumbs were going WHITE! Sitting in loose fitting pockets or reasonably tight trousers = not a problem, unless you envisage being kicked in the thigh by an angry horse :D

He should re-shoot it with a new one, using a strain gauge attached to the fulcrum.

I agree, and curved would be less likely to slip from the hand. They've done before, they should do it again.

I may hold onto my 4S a little longer. It performs just fine with iOS 8 and doesn't have a problem in my pocket. Hopefully they'll address this with the 6S. I always go for S models anyway.

I'm also considering holding onto my 4S a bit longer. It is the best mobile phone design in all of history: durable, beautiful, and functional.

But that 6+ display is so damn gorgeous; once seen, it can never be forgotten. The pixel density, color and contrast, and accuracy work to create what is IMO the greatest tech breakthrough in an iPhone since the original. 2D images have so much immediacy and presence they almost seem three dimensional.

I'm building my own version of Google Cardboard out of aluminum and wood, and originally to use it with my Nexus 7 2013. But that 6+ would take it to a whole new level...

Wow so if you put a ton of force onto a thin piece of metal it will bend? Nooooooooooooo. Please....this bend test is using a point load with extreme force to TRY to bend the phone. Under normal usage there is no way the phone would bend like that.

they are not going to replace those.

I hope thats a manufacturing defect on a certain batch!

I expect that from a Samsung device not an Apple one!

apple is samsung now.

I think the point was his iPhone was bent a little when he first looked at it after reading the story. Then the pressure was to simulate over lifetime use and the fact it could bend if you don't baby it 100% of the time. That's my take on it.

So the phone bends, and guess what... plastic breaks.
People should not put the phone like the 6+ in their pocket. i normally do but when I want to sit down, I usually take the my 5 out and place it on the table.

Well maybe most people were duped into thinking they were buying a serious phone, not a "TOY".

Oh grow up... if you don't think that every iphone, android phone, ipad, any general tablet isn't a toy for an adult you're pretty damned clueless to life.

Notice how said video bloke fails to explain every single possible movement or activity he has been engaged in, since owning said bananaphone? When I used to fix VCRs and TVs, customers would waltz in looking all innocent, saying "I don't know howwww it could have happened" ... pride means they're too ashamed to admit something they conveniently OMIT.

Maybe he just walked into a table, or a door... when drunk. It happens, ya know.
