Amazing how many ppl jump to conclusions here. A more likely scenario, IMO, is that he unknowingly hip checked a chair, table or desk with the phone in his pocket. I've dented/distorted a couple of iPhones this way myself. After finally deciding to go with the apple leather case on my 5S, it seems to be enough to protect it from reasonable bumps. I bought the leather case for my 6+ as well, but I can see that I'll need to be a little more cautious about not bumping into things.

The bent iPhones are very stylish at least.

If it's going to bend it might as well look good in the process.

And it certainly does bend imaginatively.

But skinny jeans wearing hipsters are like 50% of Apple's customer base

Other 50% are suburban grandmas

Good thing both demographics have no problem wearing fanny packs

I work in a store and let me tell you.. you're 100% right on the grandma thing.

its called a clip holster, or even buy a slim case..would you try and fit your $1000 macbook into your pocket to clink around with you everywhere you go without protection? c'mon

If this is actually a universal design flaw then I have one question....why continue trying to make the phone lighter and thinner every year? Users won't mind a heaver sturdier phone nor will they mind if the phone isn't thinner. That's not why users buy iPhones, it's not what makes a good phone good...the whole concept behind Apple is that their products just work...this would tarnish that philosophy a bit

"...To prevent bending, iPhone 6 Plus owners may want to remove their iPhones from their pockets before sitting or bending. If a pocket is unavoidable, then customers may want to place their device in a roomier pocket that allows the device to slide out the way."

They may also want to stop ordering Big Macs, and start ordering salads, so their pants aren't so tight...

so if you buy an apple phone you have to wear certain clothes and sit a certain way? hahahahaahah! i've owned a note 3 and currently own a htc m8 and i constantly sit down with it in my back pocket during work hours. its perfectly fine. stop making excuses. pockets are there for a reason. you cant put your phone in your pocket??? c'mon!

a phone is something that you should be able to stick in your pocket and go about your day without having to WORRY if what you're doing is going to affect your phone.

If you've held the iPhone 6 Plus you know it is as complete monster of a phone and, unless you have huge pockets or a purse, it cannot be carried around easily.

Still I can see this same issue surfacing a lot with the 6 since it is also a large phone made out of a thin piece of aluminum that is going to be carried around while dancing and sitting, along with everything else.

Changing Order

This was enough to cause me to change my order to a iPhone 6. I was on the fence and opted for the larger battery and OIS, but the fact it could bend so easily is too much for me. I'll reorder a 128 GB iPhone 6 at the same cost as the 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus.

It is not the phone that bends, it is only yourself.

Same thing happened to me with an iPhone 5 but it was an Apple technician that bent it. Took it in for a battery and power button replacement under the recall program and the Genius went over it with a fine-tooth comb noting every small ding and scratch. Finally he accepted it and gave me a loaner. When it came back and he put it on the table for me to inspect, it was noticeably bent and the resulting stress in the screen was causing backlight flare. I complained, we checked the paperwork and to Apple's credit, they changed the phone for a refurb. So it is not a unique problem of the 6, but putting that monster in a front pants pocket is asking for trouble! How often have you put a wallet in a front pants pocket for security and struggled to get it out when needing it. There is tremendous strain in that bend angle when sitting.

Only an Idiot would put a $1000 electronic device made of aluminum and glass in your pocket and then sit on it. #commonsense

Two things are infinite, the universe and stupidity... and we do not know about the universe...

Just common sense not to seat on your cellphone.

I disagree. I have a 6+, and I wear slim fit jeans (not super skin tight) and my phone fits in my pocket perfectly.

It is absurd to think that by simply putting my phone in my pants pocket, I am risking the literal $900 machine I just purchased bending. That is a joke.

*To amend my statement: I am talking about putting my phone in my front pocket.

Instead of the front pocket of his suit pants, he should've put it in an inside suit coat pocket (if he had one).

Not to mention that he's not doing his testicles any favors by keeping a cell phone next to them.

Bending your phone is nothing compared to bending your balls.

This obsession with producing a bigger, thinner and lighter phone is just bound to lead to failures like this.

It's a design flaw. A phone is inherently a portable device and should have some tolerance for the rigors of portability. If the modest stress of being in a pocket is enough to deform the body, it should have been made stiffer, period.

No it is not a design flaw, it is a stupid way to use it!

i really don't know but considering those devices don't go in peoples pockets, i really don't understand your line of questioning on iPads when this is dealing with the iPhone

pockets are irrelevant - theres lots of delicate expensive things you can break if you keep them in your pockets.

I wanted to ascertain the strength of other Apple products compared to this one.

So putting your mobile phone in your FRONT trouser pockets is stupid? Something we have been doing for years and years with mobile phones all of a sudden is stupid because of Apples obsession with thinness? And what do you have to say about all the other phablets that don't bend in front trouser pockets.

So it's a design defect: there is too little aloominium reenforcing the region of the inset volume buttons. For proper durability, it's likely all parts of the case require thicker aluminium, and the back should be curved similarly to the HTC One M8 to add stiffness. The M8 isn't made that way for style, it's for durability and hand feel.

This will be worse for Apple than the 4's antenna problems. Expect Cook et. al. to be s***ting their beds within a few days.

This thin/light obsession of Ive's is going too far. It's bad enough when his anorexia results in hard-to-reach ports on an iMac, but now he's ruined the durability of Apple's flagship device, the design of which was virtually indestructable only a few years ago.

It may be time for Ive to retire. He seems incapable of striking the proper balance between engineering, functionality, and industrial design.

Except your beloved HTC M8 has also have had reports of the phone bending too, its happened to alot of devices (HTC M7/M8, Xperia Z1) etc.
