Ok....

Sorry, but you are displaying an ignorant attitude here.
And yes, of course, Plastic is low speed absorption, not a 30mph head on crash!
Number of years ago, I was in a small hatchback car.
I stopped at a red light.
The women behind me did not stop, she told me a wasp in the car and she was panicking.
BANK.......
My whole car lurched forward, luckily my headrest stopped me from any whiplash injury.
I got out my car, and as I span on the stop to turn around I saw the front her her car Hood, Wing, Lights all smashed up, front of car looked a write-off.
I thought, oh god, bet my car's back end up smashed up real bad. DAM.
Looked at the back of my car, confused....
Looked again, errrrr, WTF
Nothing!
Bent right down and looked and noticed a slight 1" graze in the plastic.
I can only assume the plastic deformed, her front end crumpled taking everything out, and my plastic went back into shape.

I was stunned how strong it was, and never spent a penny on any repair, did not claim off her insurance and nothing to claim. Kept my car for many more years.

Amazing how the plastic took the force and her steel just destroyed itself

I'm sure you were not hit to hard, but did you have the rear cover removed or, ever checked out by a collision shop?

I see cars every day that people do not think are damaged, then we remove a bumper cover or other minor parts for a good inspection and find damage. Some minor some bad.

But this is about iPhone not auto collisions!

Aluminum is a great material for a phone and other products when you want to keep it light, and somewhat strong.

Aluminum is also completely recyclable more so then plastics.
It makes for a higher end product, a nice machined chunk of aluminum is much more desirable then molded plastic.

When I pay for my iPhone's I know its a nice piece of machined aluminum high end product! If its made by Apple i know my user experience and ease of use will be the best!

I know for a fact if it was plastic, the same people bitching about the bent aluminum, would be bitching about cheap plastic iPhone's!

Apple can't win with people like you, and I just can't figure out why people complain something don't have to buy?

Just a question, do you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus? If so, have you bent it under normal pocket use? If not, what knowledge do you have about how easy or not it bends?

I'd call it a design flaw, despite all naysayers 'round here. Something you wouldn't expect from "Mr. Johnny-it'sonlymetheonewhoisseeingthelight Ive".

Good to know. I was planning on carrying my phone around in my Muzetto Outback bag anyhow. This pretty much seals the deal. Going to have to learn to go without a phone for some functions like weddings and parties. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Then again, weren't there reports of this problem with the iPhone 5/5s as well? That seems to have faded.

Could be defective batches, who really knows, i am just trying to figure how this happens, when I had the Galaxy S4 which is bigger then my 6, i would put it in jeans pocket on my right pocket(i always put my phone there in right pocket with nothing in it) , never really felt any pressure on my pockets, i always adjust my phone In my pocket it i am driving or sitting in a car or sitting, since its a little tighter pockets and fit when wearing jeans, i just put my phone in my right pocket towards the middle (by crotch area) if i am wearing jeans i shift it in my pocket torwards my crotch area instead of the edges of my thigh in my pocket and that seems to do a great job

Yes they are aluminum, but they arent that easy to bend at all, it needs a good amount of pressure to bend like that, I am almost beyond positive they test this for sure before bringing out a device like this

They defitnetly do bend tests on their devices, put it through a bunch of tests, It could very well be defective aluminum chasis or weakened chasis, either way if this occurs to anyone its obviously a instant gurantee free replacement from Apple undoubtedbly

The iPhone 6 plus is 11% thinner than the Galaxy S4.

To all the people saying they would never store the phone in their pants pocket... just where would you keep the damn thing?

I don't have a man-purse or messenger bag and my fanny pack was burned in 1987. Just curious. Perhaps a sock holster?

It's called a case! People should try one and stop wearing super tight jeans!! These two things may help!!

That lad was bending it wrong. (Lol)

The weak side is the sim tray. In trousers, the bending moments are from the top and bottom edges of the phones as that's where the fabric effectively acts. Putting the middle of the phone (sim side) over a pencil and pushing at the two opposite edges isn't going to require much effort to deform the case at the middle. It really is engineering 101. Nothing to do with bad QC, or "you are sitting on it wrong" or whatever. Dont use the iPhone 6 or its big brother like you would most other phones. Its construction isn't up to it. Stop being so apologetic for a flawed design lol. Its a natural feedback. Ideally, apple will listen, stop production. Change it. Refund those who already have one and then issue resolved.

Uh common sense?

I agree, Apple failed the common sense test.

But hey, it's thin. Plus unlike the one plus with a wooden back that'll poke splinters into your flesh, this only ruins the phone.

Perhaps the designer failed to notice most teenage girls use the back pocket of their pants to carry their phones. Unique feature, very unique.

Regardless of this not-so-cut-and-dried, dubious issue, how about giving people A TITANIUM CHASSIS for the price? Seriously, that'd be better, or stainless steel AT LEAST.

It's lewis from unbox therapu for Christ sake. He has tons of gadgets. Go to his youtube channel and see the types of activities he does or one of his other sites Twitter etc it's all out there

Okay, calm down please :) - we don't all assume YouTube bloggers are worldwide "celebrities". Maybe in iPhone land, yeah. I've not heard of him, and I doubt you would have heard of my friend who used to be the Stones' cameraman on tour, but hey - I can deal with it :)

Bending is trending. Oh, the internet and it's herd mentality... how utterly rididulous; copy, paste then adopt "knowledge" based on mass hysteria, far removed from any rational thought processes or deeper analysis. Use your brains... (and they're not located @ Google.com, btw)

Apple got me again....

I don't want to alarm anyone here but, if you drop your iPhone it could shatter or crack the screen, and scratch the housing. Even possibly damage the electronics. Oh yeah, lets not forget if you drop in water, it more then likely will be ruined.

Dam Apple, got me again.........
:cool::apple:

I am :) your reading it wrong ;)

Well the 6+ is obviously a massive fail of engineering. I'm honestly shocked at Apple for not real world testing this.

Guess we need to invest in parachute pants?

Wouldn't work. The sim tray/vol buttons are a critical weak spot.

Bond the screen, put internal stiffeners in it, move the buttons/ holes and reduce the footprint by scaling down the large bezels and then you may stand a chance.

Good design isn't just about making a smartphone ever thinner or more beautiful--but practical. If the device can't survive in reasonable, real world usage then there is a problem.

Now we'll hear from people that will insist that putting a smartphone in your pocket is irresponsible and reckless abuse.

Of course. It's too damn big lol! Carry it in a bag or buy a smaller phone. It's even awkward in a shirt pocket.

I have the smaller 6 and love it, but it's as big a phone as I'd ever want.

This is disappointing news for Apple and iPhone 6 owners. It took them this long to make a bigger phone and they can't even do it right.

Here is Unbox Therapy's video:

If you have a 6 Plus be VERY careful with it, as he say's it's a giant slab of aluminium and that metal bends...

Worst case scenario is if you bend the battery and it explodes.

So it's a design defect: there is too little aloominium reenforcing the region of the inset volume buttons. For proper durability, it's likely all parts of the case require thicker aluminium, and the back should be curved similarly to the HTC One M8 to add stiffness. The M8 isn't made that way for style, it's for durability and hand feel.

This will be worse for Apple than the 4's antenna problems. Expect Cook et. al. to be s***ting their beds within a few days.

This thin/light obsession of Ive's is going too far. It's bad enough when his anorexia results in hard-to-reach ports on an iMac, but now he's ruined the durability of Apple's flagship device, the design of which was virtually indestructable only a few years ago.

It may be time for Ive to retire. He seems incapable of striking the proper balance between engineering, functionality, and industrial design.
