I've never carried a phone in my pocket*. It's always in my hand.

* exception, inside jacket pocket or coat. Never been in my front pants or rear pant pockets. What are we twelve?

you must be young. Steve Jobs carried his in his jeans pocket and even demanded new glass be made to avoid scratches after his prototype developed scratches. And so gorilla glass from corning was born

I received my 6+ yesterday. This device seems plenty sturdy to me, currently using the Spigen slim armor case I believe? Definitely going to try and get the tough armor when they come back in stock.

But after handling my phone yesterday initially without a case, it seemed as sturdy as the iPad air. I know it's not as thin, but I don't see this becoming a big issue realistically. Of course now that the media has the story it's going to become WW3

I agree with this, my 2010 MacBook Pro could knock out any WWF wrestler it I whacked them round the head with it, and I doubt it would have any damage after...

Taking a solid lump of alloy and milling it makes for one very strong laptop!

Anyway...

If you have an iPhone 6 Plus then this case should help with any possible pocket bending:

And as for consumer rights, here in the UK you could easily walk into an Apple store and claim it was not fit for purpose and get it replaced, we get pretty good consumer laws in the UK.

stupid tests

of course, sitting like 2 seconds with it in the pocket won't make it bend

people talking about bending iphones are sitting for a few hours to see it happening

Phones go into pocket. Period.

absolutely

I hope thats a manufacturing defect on a certain batch!

I expect that from a Samsung device not an Apple one!

Have any Samsung phones been prone to bending? The article mentions the 5 and 5s, but not Samsung.

----------

We're a society of whiners. We want a thin phone but we'll whine when it bends when we sit on it. We wait for days in line to be the absolute first people to get new technology and then we whine when there are bugs. We want a huge screen and then whine when we can't reach the far corner with our thumbs.

Although an awful lot of comments on here say the 5 was thin enough.

The thinness and inherent lack of torsional rigidity was something I first noticed when receiving my iPhone 6+. The iPhone 4s, by comparison, is a tank: it's more rigid due to reinforcements from the steel band surrounding the phone and a thicker back plate. The iPhone 6+ has too much flex. I think Apple's design team clearly overlooked something in the design phase of the iPhone 6+, and I suspect that form got ahead of function. From watching the video, there is insufficient torsional rigidity to prevent warpage, regardless of which case is used to protect the phone. Perhaps there the iPhone 6+ needs a Siri alert? Something like, "Ouch, your ass is hurting me!" Then again, not carrying your phone in your ass pocket would help.

Speaking of the iPhone 5, there was a half-hearted attempt to get this bending meme going with it too.

Apple iPhone 5 users complain of soft, bendy frame

And we all know how many millions of bent iPhone 5's we've seen in the past 2 years!

It seems the haters/competitors took this seed of a sabotage idea and ran the full campaign on it this year.

This is exactly what happened to me earlier this year, but with an iPad Air.

Though everybody who passed by my thread in this forum laughed at me, as if I was making up a story, now time gives me the reason.

Sad thing is nobody at Apple considered my story and they never assumed the ****** design of their super thin aluminum cases.

OMG - it's happening to cars too now!!!

iPhone 6?

Waking up to this - have the issues so far been isolated to the 6 Plus or is the 6 showing up bended as well?

I use a thick leather sleeve for my six that doubles as a wallet. I always throw it into my pocket where it's both tight but easily accessible. Now I'm wondering if using any type of sleeve will bend the phone if it's tight and not completely straight?

I always place a phone in my pocket with the screen up and the back against my thigh. From the photos you have it backwards.

Actually I don't. The majority of people place the phone with the old style lock button pointing towards the ground, and the screen facing their leg.

Who sits in the car or anywhere with their phone in their pocket?

The first thing I always do is take it out of my pocket (along with my wallet and anything else) and place it in one of the vehicle compartments. Or place it on the table if at a cafe/restaurant.

It seems some people just like to bend it like Beckham.
Hmmm, maybe the next iPhone ad could feature David Beckham. Or Apple could create an instructional video on how to care for your iPhone 6, hosted by David Beckham, with David saying something like "I'll show you how NOT to bend it like me". :p

I wonder if Apple will come up with a flexible iPhone?
Or perhaps they could just create one that is already curved so that it conforms to body shape?
Or how about they use 'memory metal' so that if it does bend out of shape you can just wipe it with water and it will go back to its original shape?
Or what if they had Terminator 3 technology and used liquid metal? lol

Hey does anyone know if you place your iPhone 6 Plus in an oven will it shrink down to iPhone 5 size, like a shrinky dink?
I tried it with my iPod Touch to see if it would turn into an Apple Watch. The results were disappointing. LOL :p

I couldn't agree more. I don't know anyone who still carries a phone in their pockets of an adult age. People trying to manufacture an issue here by trying to claim it's normal to carry a smartphone in any trouser pocket is cringeworthy and embarrassing.

Not sure if serious.

Steve Jobs carried his phone in the front trouser pocket. Was he cringeworthy and embarrassing too?

I saw a video bending of the note3 and the ip6. The note 3 just doesn't bend compared to iphone 6.

So let me get this straight. A phone that wasn't designed to go in a pocket is being damaged by putting it in a pocket and people are blaming the manufacture? Oh okay just wanted to double check.

"A phone that wasn't designed to go in a pocket." From where I'm standing that's one of the more ridiculous statements I've heard recently. To not anticipate that people will carry a phone in their pockets - really, just really?!

I didn't say it was cringeworthy and embarrassing to carry the phone in your pocket. I said it was cringeworthy and embarrassing to claim that it was normal. I was doing so in agreeing with the post that originally raised a very valid point about pocket use.

A mobile hand-held phone not designed to go in a pocket? Says who?
