My 2018 iPad Pro did the same thing last night. Weird. Guess I’ll keep using it until they make a compelling enough reason to replace it.

My 15 pro max did this a couple of days ago. Because I have the chime on when it turns on and off it woke me up!

I wonder, did the phones actually turn off or did the battery stop supplying it's charge level? Most I see are of people charging the device when it happens. This could mean the battery wasn't charging during the "off" time, but the phone was still powered on. (running on usb/lightning power instead of battery power; so the battery was off, but not the phone)

But it asked for my PIN code like usual when powered on so it was definitely rebooted

No, mine does that as well sometimes after a while. But the phone never restarted (I don't charge the phone overnight)

I do think this would require more testing. Maybe some power draw measuring during the night. This would really quickly tell if the phone is off or not.

Happened to me last night. The bright white Apple logo is what woke me up. Thought that maybe there was an auto update or something, but that doesn’t appear to have been the case.

I do recall having to enter my passcode the other day. And I remember thinking at the time “Oh. Why do I need to enter my passcode?” But then I just quickly entered my passcode and went about day without giving it another thought (until now).

It happened more than 24 hours ago, so my battery level screen will tell me nothing about that specific instance (and maybe my specific instance had absolutely nothing to do with my phone shutting off). I’ll keep an eye out, but I haven’t had any possible issues since (if I ever had any issues to begin with).

There appears to be a curious phenomenon that is causing some iPhone models to turn off temporarily at night, which can interrupt alarms and other iPhone features.

In a thread on Reddit, a user complains that two separate iPhone alarms in his home failed to go off. Several other users also chimed in with similar issues, and it turns out that some of the issues could be linked to the iPhone turning off at night. From Reddit:Some other people noted having to put in their passcodes in the morning, an indication that the iPhone restarted or shut off during the night. 9to5Mac highlighted these issues earlier this week, and we've also experienced the problem here at MacRumors, as have multiple users on the MacRumors forums. From MacRumors:You can tell if your iPhone turned off at night by opening up the Settings app, navigating to Battery, and checking the charging status over the past 24 hours. If there's a gap, the iPhone was turned off for a period of time.

The problem affects iPhone 15 models, but it is also impacting other devices, suggesting that it's something in iOS 17. Not all users are experiencing the shutdown issues, nor does it appear to be happening every night.

It is not yet clear what is going on, and Apple has not commented.

I have notice it this night first time. Before it was normal.

This has been happening to my MacBook Air for the longest time. Sometimes when I open it, it is a fresh startup, as if it had shutdown completely all by itself. Seemingly randomly, and never consistently.

Nothing like that on my iPhone yet though.

My Apple Cinema Display is mysteriously waking up when it should sleep. But the screen itself isn't on. Rather, I hear my Mac mini do something while it's sleeping, and then my Studio Displays' fans would turn on.

This thing has a chip btw, the same as in iPhones. And it's doing something. Apple's devices are very mysterious.

Do you have automatic updates turned on ?

This happened to me with my new iPhone 15. I searched the analytics for clues but couldn’t find any. Luckily my morning alarm rang right before it happened.

Would anyone familiar with logs know if PerfPowerServicesSignpostReader could hold the clue?

Happened almost every night for me since upgrading to 17.0.3 (specifically 17.0.3, was fine in previous IOS 17 versions) on my Iphone SE (2020). Very strange.

I thought that Apple added yet another bothersome security feature where they required you to enter your passcode more.

Yes, this happened to my iPhone 13 Pro Max a few days ago. It was noticeable since my SIM card is protected by a PIN; thus I had to re-enter the SIM card's PIN code to re-activate cellular connectivity in addition to the iPhone's PIN code..

This is GREAT. Rather than charge only when "clean" energy is available, shut it iPhone off and don't charge at all. Think of all the energy you will save, greenies.

Maybe they are shutting off because the clean energy charging setting is enabled. Joke's on you!
