This happened to me last night for the first time. iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.0.3. Woke up and had to input my passcode. Luckily my Apple Watch woke me up.

Also, I’ve set my iPhone to a 80% charge limit, but two times now it still has been charged to 100%.

Is this only happening to devices that charge overnight?
I don't charge min overnight and have not seen any reboots.

I think I encounter once of such a couple days ago and didn’t put too much thought into it. Seems that it could be something more serious.

Pegasus infiltration!
Interesting, I always run my device(s)—in this particular case a third-generation iPhone SE—in Lockdown Mode and turn off wifi before bed. Haven’t run into this issue, but if I did it’d be obvious since my phone plays a background sound while we both recharge our batteries overnight.

iPad Pro 2020
iPadOS 17.1

Did it reboot 4 times last night? It's more likely the battery level graph is kaput.

This would explain some weird behaviour I’ve experienced recently. Next time I’ll check the battery settings to find out if it’s the cause.

Apparantly Apple activates ALL location services (even turned off initially by user) after an update AND restart of iPhones. I would not be surprised if this is one of those tricks to do this to gather info. So much for privacy.
Not true.

Yeah I noticed the same a few days ago with my 15 Max Pro, in the morning I had to enter my sim pincode... Was wondering what that was about... 🤔

There appears to be a curious phenomenon that is causing some iPhone models to turn off temporarily at night, which can interrupt alarms and other iPhone features.

iphone-passcode-green.jpg

In a thread on Reddit, a user complains that two separate iPhone alarms in his home failed to go off. Several other users also chimed in with similar issues, and it turns out that some of the issues could be linked to the iPhone turning off at night. From Reddit:Some other people noted having to put in their passcodes in the morning, an indication that the iPhone restarted or shut off during the night. 9to5Mac highlighted these issues earlier this week, and we've also experienced the problem here at MacRumors, as have multiple users on the MacRumors forums. From MacRumors:You can tell if your iPhone turned off at night by opening up the Settings app, navigating to Battery, and checking the charging status over the past 24 hours. If there's a gap, the iPhone was turned off for a period of time.

The problem affects iPhone 15 models, but it is also impacting other devices, suggesting that it's something in iOS 17. Not all users are experiencing the shutdown issues, nor does it appear to be happening every night.

It is not yet clear what is going on, and Apple has not commented.

Nice timing on this article... I woke up this AM to my passcode/sim unlock screens and since there was no update was wondering WTF? But wrote it off as maybe sometime I missed (e.g. an update)...

More important than adding additional complexity, refactoring for the sake of "coolness", etc in iOS over the next few releases I hope they really get the change to refactor/reduce/refine the current code base and get it leaner, cleaner and really rock solid (which is always the goal, though in reality it can be difficult with all the new merges, etc)

I had the same problems during last summer with iPhone 13 Pro Max and different ios 16 versions.
I stayed in Apple Store the first time and they said that there weren’t log or info in Analytics because I connected the iPhone to Mac in order to do the backup before visiting the store.
The problems weren’t resolved so I report a negative polls about Apple Store so they (store manager) called me to understand my disappointment.
I said that the iPhone having a problem while it was charging during the night.
In the second visit the genius found a file in analytics called SystemMemoryReset and he said that the problem could linked with ram or with ssd, but also about welding of electrical contacts. They didn’t want do anything because apple not have a immediate solution for this problem, only solution was to send in US form Italy the iPhone in order to testing it. So I argued with apple genius and I pretended to talk with store manager that called me.
So they decided, only for my satisfaction and to prevent another negative poll about store, to replaced only the Rear System of my iPhone 13 Pro Max despite I have apple care. Rear system of iPhone 13 Pro Max is the rear part of the phone without display and cameras.
After this I have nerved had the problem, neither with iOS 17.

Looks like I also have this restart. AW asks for password or I get sometimes in the morning information that set amount of automations are running in background…

11Pro on latest SW…

Nothing shown on battery graphs, I though it’s caused by usage of MagSafe overnight (5W charging ftw with MagSafe case)

Once they (Apple) eliminate all the kinkies

Oi, no kink shaming here please :p

Seriously but, so this only happens if you’re charging overnight it seems? I’ve never had it happen, but then again I don’t charge at night. Switched from iPhone 12 to 15 the other day, let’s see if this mystery pops up.

Do you happen to have an Apple Watch? If so, check System Services under your watch’s Settings > Privacy > Location and then use your iPhone to disable whichever toggles you don’t want on (you might have to first flip ‘on’ and then ‘off’ on iPhone end) so that settings across the two devices eventually match up. This finally got my system location services to stay where I wanted them before I recently bit the bullet and ditched my Watch altogether.
