This is where the chin doesn’t make sense. There are use cases where portrait orientation is preferred to landscape. I’m just not interested in a display that is limited to a landscape orientation. The solution for me will be an M1 Mac mini with 4 TB ports and a separate display that I can upgrade to 3 displays. I guess I’ll still have to wait for the M1X.

It will be interesting to see how widespread or non widespread this issue becomes. Luckily I am not one who has been effected my iMac is perfect.

Really?

“Lack of charisma can be fatal” even with impressive figures and innovation in a pandemic era…

For anyone in the UK affected by this, Apple’s return window is irrelevant. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides that goods must be of satisfactory quality, which, plainly, this sort of defect would breach. There surely must be some sort of equivalent provision in the laws of most western countries.
No it wouldn't 'satisfactory quality' has to still go through the test of reasonableness and I doubt a .5mm or 1mm discrepancy would qualify as unsatisfactory.

If that were the case virtually every desk, every washing machine, freezer, fridge, dishwasher would fail.

I wonder how many people have accurately checked their floors, or their desks.

Such an easy solution, sticky two discrete thin furniture pads to make up for discrepancy.

Likewise if you really get uptight over 1mm and don't have the brainpower to resolve it, then drill four holes into the base of the stand, and have alignment screws, then you get get it to 0% whatever the surface the stand fits on.

My LG OLED TV is crooked, didn't noticed until 2 years after I bought it and I'd moved my TV to another spot in the room.

ROFLMAO. Help people with the issue you say? Well, first, it will take a class action law suit, media flaming, and government watch dog groups to comment.... that is the standard process and procedure for Apple to take accountability on defective products.... scissor gate, antenna gate, macbook pro screen gate.... nano explosion gate, 3 other ipod gates.... like this is the company that has never once taken ownership of anything or said, "we'll make it right" without being forced too. I love Apple products but they are really a despicable company if you're honest with yourself. And we all empower them with our wallets (self included) but truly d-bags that sadly make crap I can't live without.

I do totally agree with the "min if off by a millimeter" trash that is forthcoming.
Did make me smile. As my daughter in law worked for Disney Cruise ships, and in the main, US passengers seemed always to be looking for something to claim compensation or a free trip.

On one occasion a coastguard helicopter flew nearby one night.

The next day there were passengers who asked about the helicopter in the night, and some of the crew decided to do a play a little trick, suggesting to passengers who asked that it was the crew being ferried off to shore as they are every night by helicopter.

Within 7 days, they had hundreds of complaints about the awful noise every night as the helicopters airlifted crew to shore, all calling for compensation or free trips.

The featured image, by the way, isn't necessarily showing a crooked stand. The display is just not aligned with the wall, and the perspective makes it look like the right side is lower than the left side.

If this is the "our own orange M1 mac" referred to in the article, maybe check again. Show reading from a level or ruler instead of a crooked photo to prove your point!

It cant be, its perfect, I mean, its Apple :D !
Pitty to see that in chase of huge profit margins their quality seems to be pretty low.
Where I live base model iMAC 24 costs 1499 euros, let that sink in, 8GB of RAM and 256Gb SSD, if you want 16GB, get ready to pay closer to 2500 euros, because its super rare CTO(unlike MBA/MBP CTO models) and local stores only have 8GB models listed, and then even the screen isn’t 24” but smaller. And you might get get crooked/misaligned monitor, for that price?!
Apple, seriously, get your **** together, you ask exorbitant prices, yet, in recent years your QA sucks for so many customers, your hardware issues stay unresolved(10.5 iPad white screen issues were NEVER fixed) and some of your software seriously lags behind in what the hardware can do(iPadOS).

I just checked all the monitors I own. And they are a lot, for a single person.
They're ALL crooked.
Some of them are 10+ years old, but I never noticed it until this article...

I don't think it is actually noticeable unless you get down to measuring it. Still this issue should not have happened.

Nope. This isn't a cheap computer, yet it's literally nothing more than a Mac Mini with a nice display. There's no excuse for this, dude.
This happens nearly EVERY Apple release. I love Apple stuff, but holy crap, their QC for initial runs is awful.

EDIT

Yup, $600 for a 24" screen, that apparently may or may not ship crooked. Sign me up!
Apple ships millions of these things. How many of them are crooked. If you expect ZERO defects on every single product shipped, then those are pretty impossible expectations to meet. Apple always replaces defective products with zero hassle. If you had a situation where a significant percentage of the products they ship are defective, then Apple will deserve to get called out on their quality control as a premium brand. I certainly won't lose sleep over this.

P.S. I measured mine and it's perfectly level. I also tilted to the side by a few millimetres, and given the size of the screen, it still looked level to my eyes.

Does no-one have a spirit level any more? Bits of wire and shonky plastic ruler measurements - get a proper level! They're very handy for other things too - no home should be without one!

Say hello to the new iMac...
