So, what happened to Tim Cookie diversifying supply chain?

Dunno how does this compare to delays other companies are facing?

In the end every time you diversy a supply you also loose economics of scale, or you can't insure yourself against everything all the times.

On the other hand it turned out that Apple is using PSUs from 2 different vendors in the Studio (and no not based on config) so that is something that can't be borked by a single event.

2030 and the 2030 decade will see the end to this supply chain issue, as Intel's and TSMC's newest fabs will finally be online and working nonstop...
Except that the “newest” nodes (5nm and below) are NOT where these issues are, they are actually with “older” nodes and 200mm wafers…

lockdowns, why do we believe that m2 is coming in June at WWDC, at any significant volume?

- I'm for sure not part of that "we", M2 Macs ship in fall
- The production lines for the Mini, MBA and MBnotP will just switch over to making M2 based stuff or not if there is another lockdown wherever those are made
- These lockdowns should end soon and if they don't everything gets delayed which no reason to skip innovating

It can be borked by a single event, a critical supplier that is tethered to a single location. The entire supply chain needs diversification outside of any single state border.

Won't help if both PSUs are made in the same country.

Differences in PSUs could be the fix for spontaneous shutdown (see YouTube below). I'd bet my money on the Delta PSU on the right which has reputation for quality vs Lite-On PSU on the left that's known for cheaper quality and has fewer capacitors and lacks heat sink for some MOSFETs.

That sound nice, but parts of that chain are so specialised and low volume that a (full) 2nd location makes no sense.

Think about ASML making those machines needed to make chips and think about how they rely on Carl_Zeiss to make those optics.

Just not feasible to duplicate those structures.

wow! things in are going to be in short supply that is for sure.
If you're thinking of getting something, now the chance!

The Pandemic keeps on giving ...or is that taking???

Yes - look for a long ripple effect in the supply chain of goods.

Is there any way to tell which one you have without opening up the case?
