the strange thing is my phone is activated because my old phone has been deactivated... i just cant get past that stupid activation screen! FML

I had no problem activated my iPhone X with Apple. Getting it to register on Verizon's network on the other hand...

Had this problem around 7:47am pst time.

I just kept hitting retry with cellular till it worked.

It's the same thing every year. It's why I tend to avoid upgrading on launch day.

The only phone I ever bought on launch day was my iPhone 5, and that was because my 4 had a derpy power button and I was desperate to ditch it. :)

Had that happen here in the UK as well about 11am, tried again and it went through just fine.

Do tell what your solution for what Apple would be to ensure carrier servers can handle activations on launch day
There are plenty of mechanisms to simulate heavy load scenarios for servers and networks. It doesn't need to be a million actual devices, to simulate that kind of activity.

Nothing new here, I've seen this issue (sometimes personally, sometimes not) with almost every iPhone launch. The servers just aren't made to handle hundreds of thousands of simultaneous activations (and 99%+ of the time they don't need to).

There are ways to test load on a server that doesn't require actual phones to be connected. You can create virtual connections and load test a server, scale it up, so that scalability isn't an issue. If you're a seasoned software developer it isn't that difficult. Apple should have been able to test activation scalability with each of their major carriers. No excuse.

...and then what? Are you suggesting Apple pay for carrier server upgrades?

I got a different issue. UPS didn't deliver my phone. No where online did it say it was signature required so I didn't stay home to receive it and was going to run home real quick to pick up once was delivered. Now they are saying they can't get it to me until Monday.
You might be able to go pick it up at the hub where it's located.

A fun little question. While one is waiting for their iPhone X being activated, can one use the iPhone as a glorified iPod Touch?

Just wondering.

Same here. I called AT&T for help and they had me give them the IMEI/MEID and ICCID numbers for the new phone and according to them everything in their system shows that the new phone is activated. My old 7 now shows "no service" so I'm pretty much without a phone line right now.

Extremely smooth ordering process and no activation problems whatsoever on T-Mobile. Just saying.

I had to turn off both my phones and turn the X back on for it to activate
