Gotta wait from the Keynote to Pre-order....Wait for launch day. Launch day gets here, gotta wait again for UPS to deliver....finally get the phone....now gotta wait to activate it because AT&T servers are from 1994 and can't handle this traffic. This is 2017 AT&T, lets get with the program.

once i took out the sim and put it back it, the activation went through. was waiting 10minutes before that

grumble... I've been trying for about 4 hours and nothing.... stupid AT&T... you'd think 10 years later we wouldn't be having this problem still. Although, I've had every version of iPhone and always get them on the day of release and this has never happened to me, so I guess I'm due.

Those bezels look big...

Yeah, case, but straight on doesn't look that great with the added bezel appearance.

The iPhone X is now widely available across the United States, but some new iPhone X owners aren't able to start using their new phones due to carrier activation issues and congestion.

On the MacRumors forums, a number of AT&T users are complaining about activation problems, and there are also reports of activation issues on Twitter and reddit. Some AT&T customers are seeing long wait times for the activation process before it eventually fails with an error message.

The issue appears to be due to heavy congestion with so many new devices being released into the wild at once. Several of our readers have been able to get the activation process to work after multiple attempts, while others have gotten it to work after a restart or via iTunes. From MacRumors reader anthonymoody:While most of the reports seem to be coming from AT&T users, there are also scattered reports from Verizon customers who are seeing activation problems.

Unfortunately, there appears to be no fix at this time beyond waiting or attempting the activation process over and over again. The problem should start to clear up later today as the servers become less crowded, but Apple and/or affected carriers may also be able to implement some kind of fix.

We'll update this post should we hear reports of the congestion clearing up.

This happens every single time there is a major new iOS product release. Just keep trying people, it'll work sooner or later!

HOW do I get the itunes prompt for activation? The itunes screen is blank what i plug in the iphoneX. Is there a way to force it into running the activation process?

Sure, in a perfect world where cost is not a factor.

Apple is somewhat of a partner. But... Ultimately, AT&T decides whether to invest for that once-a-year peak activation capacity. Or not.
Agreed. But, flagship product, amount of cast flow & resources Apple has I would have made sure. It probably would have taken no more than 5 people a week to do because of the repeatability of the process.

Right... Apple should have handed out a couple million iPhones to people in order to test AT&T's network ensuring that everyone could activate at the same time.

They can simulate it on the network, they don't need physical phones to test it.

I'm having trouble with Verizon too, been trying for an hour. In the meantime, I went ahead bought a leather case from Apple and installed a glass protector perfectly align with no dust underneath or bubbles whatsoever, proud of that one lol.

Network issues are not really that surprising on launch day as buyers want to activate their shiny devices ASAP. This happens all the time since 10 years ago. I blame the network carriers.

The blame is on the network carriers. It's 2017, and this isn't a horribly difficult problem to address, especially considering they know the dates when they're gonna get hit the hardest. These days, one developer using a cloud provider can have an application scale to leverage thousands of machines within minutes. While yes, the problem will go away as people get through the pipeline and some time passes, it does not need to be an issue at all, and it is a continuous black eye on crap network/software architecture at the carriers.

Well, this is small consolation for those of us getting our phones in a couple weeks’ time....
My daughter's is coming here because I pay for it then I need to send it to N.Y. maybe it's good she won't get it until Tuesday.

Sure.. But again, Apple likely informed AT&T what to expect in terms of simultaneous activations. And likely AT&T made a business decision on how much money to invest on handling that once-a-year situation.

Hmmm... these could be from the batch of 300 iPhones that were stolen from the UPS truck in SF...
