Checking in as one with a new 15" MBP, the one with the 1GB video card, and a 24" LED Cinema Display, no flickering here (yet). Of course, since I just said that, I'll probably start seeing problems :)

I get anything Dell for free but refuse to touch the stuff!

I agree with you whole heartedly about Dell systems (horrendous PWS, cheap components...etc); but when it comes to their ultrasharp displays...sorry man youre wrong:) theyre awesome awesome products.

PS: IF you REALLY can get Dell products for free...Hmm, care to make 200.00 for snagging me a 27inch UltraSharp? PLEASE! :D

I agree - Dell do some fantastic displays. Even down to the stand, allowing full 360 rotation! I ended up buying a pare of 24" Samsung monitors for my Mac Pro but will be using Dell's next time. Side-by-side the quality of them is highly noticeable.

I love macs as much as the next guy, but can people stop being so childish with the dell remarks? They make computers, the computers work - period.

It is intermittent. Apple thought it might be the cable. I have been through three of the 24" displays. Two of which had this issue (one had bad pixels).

Has there ever been any new MacBook Pro or MacBook or MacBook Air from Apple that DIDN'T have at least a screen flickering issue? No.

I've actually noticed some weird flickering issue that is simultaneous on the top 1" and bottom 1" or so on the display itself (not hooked up to anything else).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

More QA issues at Apple? Not good for a premium laptop and premium screen!

The good news is it appears to be a software issue because swapping out hardware doesn't seem to work. The bad news is Apple takes forever to churn out firmware updates.

Personally I don't have experience w/ Dell ultrasharp displays.

My ex-roommate's dad from my undergrad days is the COO of Dell's Printer/Scanner Division based in ATX and she was able obtain anything Dell she wanted for free and offered to do the same for me. I've been out of undergrad for nearly a decade but still keep in touch with her via FB. Maybe I'll ask her for a favor. ;)

I'd like to stress that this problem that is being reported now, is with 24 inch ACD's that previously had NO problems with other MBP's… Until they got hooked to the new 2011 MBP's.

Just got my Thunderbolted MBP on Tuesday. It's mated to my 23 inch Apple Display (NON-LED version) and seems to be working fine so far. Will report back if any flicker starts to occur.

Correction 23 inch Non-LED version

Every Apple product release is plagued by poor QA or design. Things weren't always this way....

Pretty much.

AFAIK, Apple has never made a 24 inch ACD w/o LED. They made a 22 and 23 inch, but never a 24 inch.

The wait...

Did we really have to wait through 1:45 just to see the problem? What happened to editing video on a Mac? Is that feature left out of the new MacBook Pros too? ;)

i don't understand this whole Thunderbolt crap! why did they add that port when there's no products out there use it? when is it going to be mainstream? in 20 years?

cool.

I've had the blackout issues on my 24" ACD for ages now (Mac Pro, ATI 4870). Sometimes it will go days without blacking out, other times it will black out several times over a few hours. No way to replicate it.

I've spent hours reading support threads (like this one) to find no answers. At the time my unit was under warranty, I was at least 4 hours from the nearest Apple store.

I just live with it, because 99.999999999% of the time, it's a gorgeous display.

Maybe they'll issue a firmware fix and all will be resolved... I'm not holding my breath though.

Cool. BTW: I was only .000000000001 % joking about the monitor purchase, so let me know if your connections work out:)

Apple really need to stop letting these things happen. When did all of these quality assurance issues start arising? It definitely wasn't as common in, say, 2008.

Don't they have a "Chief Officer for Quality Control"?

???????

What confused me was the inclusion of a Thunderbolt port + firewire...Hmm. If anything, Id think giving them dual thunderbolt ports would be best...cause heaven forbid you want to use an external monitor AND some external storage(High IO) at the same time. Weird huh.

Like how mainstream firewire is today? :D

Hopefully they figure this out and get it fixed ASAP.
