I didn't realize my iPad was doing this until I saw it talked about here. Thankfully, it's not real distracting and I think I can live with it.

It is bad

I was not involved in the forums conversation but my wife and I upgraded both of ours yesterday. Our old iPads had zero issues but both the 64gb black and 32gb white have this. The white from every edge, the black from bottom right.

My black also has some glowing pixels (far brighter then surrounding pixels). Overall it's a nice machine but I'm going to at least take back the black with the bright pixels. Considering the screen is very first generation I am surprised about this issue. And disappointed. 0/2 is sad.

I'm impressed by all you casual, relaxed people who hardly bat an eyelid at the thought of getting a replacement. I'm quite tolerant and long on patience, but taking something in for replacement, especially something I'll be using every day, doesn't seem worth it to me. It would be like replacing a car every week because the dash lights flicker. Even if the dealer had a new car washed and keys inside, full tank of gas and engine warmed up every time, I still wouldn't put up with it.

What production weeks are they?

LOL....

Ughh

I have this too and on the bottom it looks like 3 finger tips which is very annoying on dark or light screens.. It's even more noticable if you increase brightness. I'm exchanging mine, not that it's a big deal but it is very annoying!

Some have it worse than others.

Hate to say it, but apples QA is getting worse, and I've been using Mac for over a decade. Never had these issues.. Other than that I love this device about as much as one Can be in love with tech gear and naked ladies!

Quit whinging about minor issues and enjoy your beautiful new iPads. I hope Apple doesn't offer replacements of these so-called faulty units. If customer A isn't happy then customer B will gladly take the iPad off their hands. Customer A can go play with a Xoom instead that's all they deserve.

Are you serious?

So if you had yellow blotches on your screen about the size of nickels (3 on the bottom and one top right side) you think people should just accept it and it's not "defective" ?

Maybe you should actually see it in your hands before you make the assumption based on pictures you've seen..

oh wait nevermind, just heard from a friend at apple, they plan on giving out free cases to hide that part of the display.. DUH!

The photo on the news page is a minor example of what some people (including myself) have had an issue with. I would hardly call bright backlight bleeding extending over an inch on some parts of the display covering nearly the entire border of the screen a "minor" issue. I'm well aware of bleeding being inherent with these types of screens, in fact I don't think I have a product with a similar display that doesn't have it. However, it's the extent and amount that's the issue.

This is why I'm waiting a month or so before I get mine in Canada. I'd rather not get one from the initial batch that had to be rushed beyond belief to ship.

I don't need to be first.

You are not holding it right.

Steve Jobs answer... "This affects a small percentage of units when you visually look at it from improper angles... All screens will reveal light around the edges if you view them from certain angles... The solution is simple, don't view it at angles other than the official Apple supported angle... Later this month, we will offer a free silicone sleeve that will hide... er... I mean eliminate the visibility of this light around the edges of the screen"

Despite what others are saying this is an actual real problem. Apple took a bit of a hit with antenna gate and this will not help them rebound. You may say its a nonissue, but this is not true. On a $500+ device you shouldn't have problems like this.

For those of you who also say antenna gate is a non issue because it can be caused on other phones answer me this. How many major market phones lose their signal from a light grip or the touch of a finger? On the iPhone 4 a loose grip or a finger placed over the strip will cause signal loss. No other phone has that problem.

Being a fan of Apple doesn't mean you should ignore their flaws, you should be critical of them. If you don't make it clear that you won't accept flaws like this then Apple won't take the steps to prevent them.

If this were an Android product with this problem you guys would consider this to be a huge flaw and would constantly bash the product for this.

I'm astonished at how people can accept having backlight bleeding/yellow tinted defected units and not be annoyed. When you pay a few hundred dollars for a unit thats advertised as magical, you expect the best. Otherwise you'd go Xoom or some Android rip off.

I understand its the first batch, but they've surely had time to quality test x amount of units.

Made in China

liar, that's too long an answer.

He would say something more along the lines:

Unfortunately all electronic devices with screens tend to leak light.

Your day is made

Now admit it you know you guys love this kind of BS The MacRumors ***** brigade is just tingling with excitement now. What a weekend party you will have!

LOL....

You, sir, have just made my week....

Really? That line is so cliche at this point. At least in the Macrumors Forums it's completely overused. Every time I read it I groan. (I'm referring to the "You're holding it wrong" line)

Anyways, hopefully this bleeding issue doesn't turn out to be some huge deal. Not that it'll matter too much, look at iPhone 4'sales despite all the media attention paid to antennagate.

Sure just enjoy the iPad. Apple never promised a pixel perfect display. That's the trouble when a bunch of tech blogs start posting this garbage we end up with another antenna gate situation. It frustrates the life out of me. I love Apple and they don't deserve this.

I've seen some photos people have posted but I believe most of them to be photoshopped by Fandroids. It sickens me, it really does.

Seemed minor to me...

I see this but only when I set the brightness to full (and only minor at that).

One thing I immediately noticed when I got the new iPad, it surely has a brighter display. I restored a backup of my old iPad to the new one. I had to turn the brightness level down because the iPad 2 was too bright (compared to the iPad 1s brightness setting).

I think this problem has always been there, but the iPad 2 being brighter just makes it more noticeable.

Exactly. This type of thing is only noticeable on most units if you jack up the brightness and look at the edges when the screen is dark. In other words it's almost never noticeable during normal usage. That fact won't stop OCD nut jobs from freaking out over it.
