well that sucks looks like they will need to add a setting to disable the security feature

Isn't his watch upside down how he placed it on both arms.....I didn't get my :apple:Watch yet, I got Tattoos on both areas where the sensors will be. I know it shouldn't matter how the watch is placed, still should be working.

Funny how so much comments about people "having tattoos screwed themselves over, since tattoos interfere with the sensors." Soon people with Tattoos will ask to make a bill the same way homosexuals have there own protections. Discriminating someone with Tattoos is the same thing as telling Bruce Jenner you are a man, not a woman. Bullying someone for how they express there self has a price.

i agree some people are overly harsh i hope they get there watches last ;)

does anyone else but me think that people are only making a big deal over this tattoo thing in order to keep attention off the fact that samsung slammed apple in smartphone shipments in Q1 2015?

Haha yeah right. Samsung profits were down 39% due to slowing smartphone sales. This is the 6th quarter IN A ROW of declining profits for Samsung.

Definitely incorrect when comparing Q1 to Q1.

I've started to think/wonder if the reason S* ships so many devices correlates to S* users replacing the devices at a faster rate than :apple:. I'm curious if data exists for unique users and device longevity (total life and per user life - as all iPhones either within my family or of friends/coworkers end up with a second owner.) - This is just based upon my observations of iPhone and Samsung users within my day-to-day life.

Again, Tattoos are a common thing.

I work in the field in one of the world's most diverse and populated cities, New York. In my rounds it is NOT common to find people with Sleve tattoos or smaller tattoos ON THEIR WRISTS. Which is what this entire thread is about.

I'm mostly amazed that people with that many tattoos could even get jobs to buy the Apple Watch. :D

Just kidding, I know there are jobs that can be had by those with tattoos. I'm just one of the people that never saw the big deal about having them.

You wouldn't be that amazed if you stopped looking at your computer/phone and went outside once in a while... or just stopped by an Apple store for that matter.

True that. Seeing people loaded with ink on MTV and reality shows doesn't count. That's not reality. In the real world, I can't remember one time I've seen someone inked down to their wrists, yet I see many people with tattoos.

If a problem at all, it's less than 1% of all the tattooed, so that means it's much MUCH less than 1% for the general population. You don't waste time on fixing a problem that may exist for 0.000001% of your customer base.

And people with tattoos shouldn't assume that their body modifications might prevent technology from properly interacting with them?

People with piercings need to take them out before using some medical machines, this seems similar.

Before you read this article, would you have assumed that tattoos would be a problem? If Apple didn't know I doubt Joe Consumer would. Apple should issue a disclaimer of some sorts. End of story.

profits only matter if you're a shareholder. consumers don't care about that kind of thing. they care about the products.

Yeah and profits are down due to declining sales. If sales are declining that means fewer consumers are buying the products.

So? I work in a very diverse work environment (field service in the energy sector) and lots of workers have sleeve (not sleve) tattoos or tattoos on their wrists.

Incorrect - without profit, the product may just disappear from the market. Consumers do care if the company is unhealthy.

Lack of profit indicates many other "issues" between comparable devices. If S* is spending much more per unit to sell a comparable product, there is a much greater chance of a number of things happening: 1) S* will just exit the market, 2) :apple: could lower the price (profit margin) to just stomp S*, 3) :apple: has a lot more unreleased tech around the corner to out-innovate S* 4) :apple: has a lot more cash sitting around to innovate at a greater rate... etc.

Now, I have to say this.

Personally I am not a fan of such things on the body, but, it's a free choice and if that's your thing, then fair enough, it's a personal thing.

However, given that Apple has been testing the watch for such a L-O-N-G time out in the real world with real people, it's almost unbelievable that no one at all at Apple thought about this and tested this issue.

If it is an issue, they simply should of passed this info onto customers as a warning note before purchase, and to Apple store staff to point out also.

Does not mean there is anything wrong with the watch, just that Apple should of tested this, and informed people.

Either:

1: They never tested it, which seems utterly amazing if they never did.

2: They found out it was a problem, and simply did not say anything.

I'd guess #2. The # of people who sleeve their arms, and would actually wear an Apple watch (hipsters), was probably small enough not to care.

Only a problem with Android Tattoos...evidently!..##

haha

They do:

Even under ideal conditions, Apple Watch may not be able to get a reliable heart rate reading every time for everybody. And for a small percentage of users, various factors may make it impossible to get any heart rate reading at all.

To be fair this paragraph is not in the heart rate section of the user guide. It would be a good idea for them to update the guide with this information.

... but in cities they're pretty much the norm. I'm almost in shock when I come across someone who doesn't have a tattoo these days...

Wow!

Let me guess... you live in the Bay area, or at the very least, the left coast.

You need to get out more... in some other parts of the country, even in some "small" cities like NYC. You'd be in shock quite a bit.

I gotta admit, since Cook seems to have a serious hard on for celebrities, I kinda wish he offered the Apple Watch to Travis Barker a few weeks ago.
Would have loved to hear his opinion on it !.. :D
