It's great more stores are adding Apple Pay but who actually shops at Trader Joe's ?

I don't do my primary shopping there, but they have a few items I really like...usually go there once or twice a month.

----------

Honestly don't see why pulling out a $600 smartphone to pay is any easier than pulling out a plastic credit card. One thing's for sure - the credit card will suffer less potential damage if it's accidentally dropped in the process.

...adding, glad to see TJ's also accepts Google Wallet and isn't exclusively Apple Pay.

Not necessarily easier, but much, much more secure.

Seattle area stores are using the new terminals (just went today) but NO apple pay or I would've used my watch.

I'm just glad they got rid of those pokey old monochrome terminals. Man were those crappy things hard to use. Love seeing the HD Widescreen VeriFone MX 915 terminals.

I actually saw that exact machine at the Trader Joe's in my hood last week, but I did not know if it had the Apple Pay log. I guess I have to find out this weekend. I would be cool if I can use my watch to pay :)

With Apple Pay, the vendor never gets my credit card number. Given how frequently credit card systems are breached, this is a huge benefit.

To be honest, I almost always have my iphone in my hand while in line waiting to check out.... for me it's more of an inconvenience to stop what I'm doing.. put my phone away and fumble through my wallet to pull out a certain card to use.

Actually now that I have the Apple Watch... It's even faster.. don't have to put my thumb on the home button of my phone.. just place my wrist next to the reader.

It's all about less steps and overall a more secure way of purchasing. OPTIONS.. aren't they an amazing thing to have?!

This is why the Apple Watch is awesome. I use my card a LOT ... they wear out quickly and have to be replaced a lot.

It's funny to me that people on Macrumors of all places are willing to pay for what is easily the best of the best when it comes to their tech but when it comes to food so many of you seem happy to shop at sub par places like Trader Joe's. This is your body, your energy, and your health that we are talking about.

Not to mention taste. Two buck chuck wines that you can pay for with your $600 iPhone or $350+ Apple Watch?! Are you kidding me?! The stuff is ****. Exactly what I expect from a wine that costs a few bucks.

You hold yourself to a higher standard when it comes to your tech but not the the food and drink you put in your bodies?

Mind blowing.

Of course, most credit cards indemnify against fraud so...

Fraud, yes. Identity theft, no. (Apple Pay also doesn't provide the vendor with any of my personally identifiable information.)
Edit: Also, it's not as if credit card fraud is a zero-cost problem. Whether or not I have to pay for it directly, we all have to pay for it as a whole.

So, tell us how you feel about McDonalds accepting Apple Pay.

This is great news, I have Sprouts and Trader Joe's right by my house and even Whole Foods about two miles away, so I do all my grocery shopping there. I went today actually but they were still using the old POS so hopefully it doesn't take too long to get over here.

It will make me love my Apple Watch even more :)

Any word if these new POS units have EMV enabled, or are they going to drag their feet on enabling the EMV slots like many other merchants with new units?

Sub-par? Seriously?

Plenty of people, including me, shop at trader joe's for healthy foods. Their bananas are fresh at 19c each, bread with very few ingredients, you can get the tastiest peanut butter I've found with peanut and oil as ingredients, none of that partially hydrogenated stuff, they also have some good coffee now and again like their limited edition peaberries which are pretty much guaranteed to be fresh since a lot of people buy them.

Trader Joe's is fantastic if you ignore the processed foods and the two buck chuck wines.

Way to generalize

Like many others in the store, I frequently stop there for wine. In fact, I went there tonight on the way home, and having noticed the article this morning, I told the cashier that I'd read :apple:pay was coming. She replied by saying it's already here, but hadn't seen anyone use it yet. Sure enough, the contactless payment symbol was on the screen, so I paid with :apple:pay using my iPhone. She thought it was cool. I said it will be even cooler when my :apple:watch arrives.

Honestly I'm expecting EMV to simultaneously turn on in October at most places. It's not that good of an experience compared to swiping and no one wants to be first lest they lose customers. EMV debit also still has serious issues (either they can only run them as credit w/o a PIN or they just get blocked altogether).

Which is good grocery app?

Which is good grocery app?

My needs are simple, would prefer shared list and simple to use.

I currently use notepad, it works okay as I can use it on my mac and add things whenever I remember.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

You're proving my point. They have a few products every now and again that are any good and you have to check for them? Not exactly a great experience. Their bananas are great if you like mushy $.19 bananas. Or you could spend a little extra and get something good, from a good source. All of the products your refer to can be had for a bit more and you can support a system that is ethically significantly better.

Maybe I've had a bit too much two buck chuck tonight and it's making me self righteous. :)

Their garlic naan bread is pretty good for what it's worth. The dairy and meat goes bad much, much faster than the stuff from Safeway though.

As an Australian, it's kind of funny to see people get excited about contactless payments or any kind.

Here, they are everywhere - in Taxis, cafes, on vending machines, even on parking meters. We have 23 Million people and 10 times the number of NFC terminals as the entire US. Even Amex is contactless here.

Swipe and Sign has been completely abolished for about 3 years. It's actually rare to find a business that doesn't have a contactless terminal.

What is taking you so long America?

Popular grocery store chain Trader Joe's has installed new NFC-compatible VeriFone touchscreen checkout terminals in some of its stores, allowing for contactless payments. First noticed by AppleInsider, some of these stores with the new payment terminals are accepting Apple Pay, which works at any location that allows for contactless payments.

MacRumors has verified that Apple Pay works in some Trader Joe's stores. In Raleigh, North Carolina, we were able to make a purchase at Trader Joe's with the Apple Watch using Apple Pay.

I wondered if I could use Apple Pay at that store in Raleigh. The store in nearby Cary, NC has a similar terminal. I should find out if Apple Pay works there too.

... because Trader Joe's is the "other Aldi" since "Aldi Sued" is the one with the "Aldi" license in the U.S. and "Aldi Nord" uses Trader Joe's as their brand in the U.S. - but in general, they follow similar strategies.

Not so simple. First, it's Aldi Süd, not "Sued". Trader Joe's and Aldi are very different in nearly every way, except a common owner. Their shopper demographic is diffferent, they don't operate in the same neighborhoods, they have very few products as crossover (Trader Joe's labeled products have no artificial anything, compared with Aldi which has artificials all over their products).

Aldi Nord/Süd are also separate companies, so "Aldi is using Trader Joe's as their brand in the US" is not correct, since they are so different. Since the money likely ends up in the same place anyway (Albrecht family trust), I'd say the strategy is to use Aldi/Trader Joe's to capture a wider audience of the USA grocery market than either could individually capture.
