Cool. But they are not the same company they were in the 90s
I'm not so keep on Trader Joes anymore.

-Frazier Farms
-Sprouts
-Jimbos ..................All these guys support Apple Pay as well

And farmers markets are cool too. No Apple pay but a lot of them use Square. NFC and Apple pay HAS so be coming to Square soon...I would think

Honestly don't see why pulling out a $600 smartphone to pay is any easier than pulling out a plastic credit card. One thing's for sure - the credit card will suffer less potential damage if it's accidentally dropped in the process.

...adding, glad to see TJ's also accepts Google Wallet and isn't exclusively Apple Pay.

It's not about ease. It is about security.

It's funny to me that people on Macrumors of all places are willing to pay for what is easily the best of the best when it comes to their tech but when it comes to food so many of you seem happy to shop at sub par places like Trader Joe's. This is your body, your energy, and your health that we are talking about.

Not to mention taste. Two buck chuck wines that you can pay for with your $600 iPhone or $350+ Apple Watch?! Are you kidding me?! The stuff is ****. Exactly what I expect from a wine that costs a few bucks.

You hold yourself to a higher standard when it comes to your tech but not the the food and drink you put in your bodies?

Mind blowing.

I eat remarkably healthfully and only eat high quality foods. And I shop at trader joes at least once a week. You do know that they sell a whole lot more than that one crap wine you reference, yes? Your ignorance and arrogance is mind blowing.

Always good to see another quality merchant accepting Apple Pay!

Seriously, it's like saying Apple is a subpar company because they make iCloud. ;)

This is good. Trader Joe's is a good store!

Our local Publix also said they are going to be accepting Apple Pay "once they roll out the new payment terminals through all their stores." They seemed to think it would be fall 2015 when they got that far.

As an Australian, it's kind of funny to see people get excited about contactless payments or any kind.

Here, they are everywhere - in Taxis, cafes, on vending machines, even on parking meters. We have 23 Million people and 10 times the number of NFC terminals as the entire US. Even Amex is contactless here.

Swipe and Sign has been completely abolished for about 3 years. It's actually rare to find a business that doesn't have a contactless terminal.

What is taking you so long America?

but do you have Apple Pay? or like the UK tons of established contactless places but no Apple Pay, apparently it's not the technology or token system it's money! Apple wants a slice of the interchange fee, but in Europe they are already capped..I can't see us getting AP till end of the year at best..

How can something be Pay exclusive when as far as we know Apple isn't using any exclusive technology? If the retailer enables NFC they'd have to accept more than just Pay, no?

I just want Target on board. So friggin' annoying they're holding out.

I disagree. Like pretty much every grocery store, yes Trader Joe's does carry some unhealthy food since that's what most of the population likes to eat. However, I eat pretty healthy and carefully monitor what feds I'll buy to put into my body and I've found that Trader Joe's does indeed have some pretty decent healthy options. Even their processed foods are of good quality for being processed. I had never shopped there before until a few months ago and now I usually stop there once a week to pickup a few things. I particularly like their Chicken Tikka Samosas. That's about one of the only frozen foods that I can find that isn't packed with a mountain of sodium for those days when I don't feel like cooking a full meal and they actually taste really good.

Was at trader Joe's yesterday but did not see the :apple: Pay logo... I guess it's not rolled out at all locations yet.

Probably mentioned earlier in this thread, but Albertsons/Jewel also take Apple Pay. Our local TJ has the new terminals, but no AP yet.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say this about Trader Joe's. Mediocre at decent prices has always been my experience. I have one 2 blocks from my apartment and shop there MAYBE once a month. Garbage produce and bland processed foods.

You're the first I've ever heard say that. TJ isn't s good place for produce, but it's a great specialty market retailer. Much of it is indeed processed, however. Packaged and frozen goods.

GW is lame, it has the same vulnerability of using a credit card since it's not tokenized.

AP is a security thing, and an ease of use thing. Ease - I already have my watch outside my body on my wrist, so I don't have to remove anything. I just push a button ash I lift my arm, and waive. Done. Security - tokens. Not much more to say, other than its better than using your credit card in every way.

Just yesterday our bank told us out cards had been involved in a compromise and were being canceled. Unfortunately they said this as we were trying to check out at the grocery story, so it was a 25 minute PITA. AP prevents that from ever happening again.

The TJs by me have had this for a few weeks now.

Also Star Market/Shaws has introduced contactless support.

I wouldn't call it garbage, but TJ's is significantly better than most other groceries in my area (Stop and Shop, Roche Brothers, Shaws, etc.) However, I wouldn't (and don't) go there to buy my weekly groceries.

We have a Wegmans about 15 minutes out of the city. They are better than anyone else, when it comes to freshness and quality.

Actually, they are different owners. Both original owners died (brothers Albrecht - aka for Albrecht Discount - Aldi), but the divide is because both brothers divided the business.

And it is correct that Aldi Nord has to use an off-brand - in this case Trader Joe's - because Aldi Nord has no name right for the American market.

Here an image from Wikipedia: Aldi stores worldwide: Aldi Nord in blue, Aldi Süd in orange

PS: If you would have read the posts, I used "ue" because I use an US keyboard and was too lazy to look up the ASCII code and since there is a German rule that in this case, I can use "ue" for "ü," I did. Please don't argue with me about German. I have a German High School diploma, one of my written test subjects was German. I am fairly versed in the German language - actually studied German (as part of my International Languages degree) and even taught it on college level.

Who's arguing? Just copy and paste the ü from Wikipedia since you already went there to get the map that added nothing. That's wonderful about your various accomplishments on German. None of it is really relevant though.

Using Trader Joe's as an "off brand" because of naming rights makes no sense because Aldi and Trader Joe's have nearly no overlap in their markets. What they are using Trader Joe's for is diversification. But then, since they are different owners, why would it matter? It matters because the family trust has owned Trader Joe's since 1979, and the money likely ends up in the same place anyway.

Your argument makes it sound like Trader Joe's is just a different name for Aldi Nord in the US, which couldn't be more wrong. You also chose not to reply to that part of my post, which makes me think you're willfully ignoring it because it would nullify your argument.

Not so simple. First, it's Aldi Süd, not "Sued".
Actually, "ue" is the proper way to transcribe the ü-Umlaut in ASCII.

Their garlic naan bread is pretty good for what it's worth. The dairy and meat goes bad much, much faster than the stuff from Safeway though.
That could be because Trader Joe-branded products don't use artificial preservatives. Natural milk has a shelf life of only a couple days. The stuff that is sold at most grocery stores is heavily treated.

BTW, TJ products are also GMO-free.

Google wallet is tokenized.

For me the 5 best retail stores in the USA in any order.

TJ's, Costco, Apple, Nordstrom and Whole Foods. WF only and main drawback are the too high prices but the quality and appeal of the store is great.
