Wouldn't this be a software bug and something that can be fixed with a pushed update?

Oddly enough, for me the 3-finger drag seems to be the most consistent when I start from the top-right of my trackpad.

Do that then.

Isn't this the equivalent of:
Doctor doctor! It hurts when I do this [puts arms up high in the air]
Doctor: don't do that then.

:D

Thank you guys once again from the bottom of my heart, for the courage in investing thousands of dollars to be an Apple beta testers. I salute y'all and you are making everyone a better future. Keep doing what you're doing and we'll never tire appreciating your efforts. THANK YOU!

Glad im not the only one. It's because apple put a really big ass trackpad so palm gets in the way when using it. Palm rejection makes error guess with three fingers drag. It's ****ing annoying. Who needs a big ass trackpad. The one in the retina macbook is more than enough ffs!

As others above have already pointed out, the biggest moaners seems to be those that have not tried or own this product.

All these reports are small samples on a community forum not a global scandal. Wait until thousands are reporting issues before lynching Apple. Even then 100,000 would still be a small sample for an Apple device.

Actually I quite like the idea. I haven't tried it yet but with my last gen MacBook Pro sometimes I would get to the edge of the trackpad and be left needing to go a bit further. This will probably have same issue but I still see practicality in it. Though I will bear in mind your suggestion it interferes with resting palms tho when I do try one.

People are equating "different" to mean "problem". You need to wear really thick glasses here in the forums in order to filter out the noise and nonsense.

The MacBook Pro, aside from this one hardware issue (until proven otherwise), is a well-engineered system that pushes the comfort zone until people adjust and adapt.

Not at all true.

The new MBP is full of compromises and performance issues that you are obviously able to excuse.

By all means enjoy your new toy as much as possible, but this product makes it painfully obvious there is something really rotten at Apple's current core.

I honestly expected some issues like this with how freaking large that new trackpad is.

They had to implement palm refraction whereas on the previous model it either doesn't exist at all or exists only minimally. Palm rejection can never be perfect, especially if you're trying to do complex gestures near the edges.

I think this is something they'll improve in response to usability reports like these. Whether they can solve all issues for all people remains to be seen but it seems unlikely.

Can't say I use 3-finger drag. But I do use the gesture to swipe between Exposé Spaces.

Palm rejection would seem to interfere with seamless gestures on trackpad. Can't say I didn't see this coming. That was my major concern with this laptop is that my wrists will always be resting on the trackpad while typing.

And so now the trackpad becomes just like the crappy ones on most windows laptops. What benefit is there to a larger trackpad? Nothing I can think of without Pencil support.

Cancelled my order yesterday and feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I'll be skipping this generation. Too many issues all around. Sad times.
good decision, after seeing the keynote I realised I have no interest in the new MBP.

before that I was constantly thinking about upgrading my 2014 rMBP but the un-necessary and gimmicky touch bar, crazy price and the concept of ugly awkward dongles attached to it instead of few neat and nice ports killed all my interest.

I just don't like it.

My guess is they may need to provide a firmware update to fix this.

The problem with that is, what if you need to drag something to the right? Your fingers slide off the trackpad and nothing happens.

I resolved my biggest issue with my Mac book pro 15inch by coming to this site less frequently. The more I use the computer the more I love it. It's a near perfect machine with minor issues that in the end don't really matter. But this site makes you think those issues are huge.

It's crazy fast and light. Dongles have yet to bother me. I can ignore news for a while and get work done on a wonderful machine. Love it! I'll try to remember next time I am due for an update to keep everything about this site in perspective.

I must say that I have the new 15" MBP and have had no issues. Actually quite impressed with it esp. the keyboard which I was very worried about.
Unfortunately for me, my 15 inch MacBook Pro won't run on battery for more than five hours with the screen brightness even turn down to 25% and doing the most basic of web browsing. And Apple tech download the diagnostic logs and determined that there is a problem with my battery draining prematurely. ****!
Other than that I love the machine.

Obvious Apple solution: remove three finger drag from OS.
If touch problems persist: remove multitouch completely, inform users they don't need it.

I wrote about this in a reply to another thread a day or so ago. It's very frustrating. Sometimes the three-finger drag works perfectly fine, other times it's totally missing. A real bummer as I use this feature much more than I realized. Hope it's a simple software fix.

This is easily a software issue. I'm no developer but all Apple has to do (if it is a coding issue) is make activating the three finger drag also then removes the cursor from a text input field. This means palm rejection will then be deactivated. If it's a bug then it's the usual process.

I've been browsing the MBP forums the past week, and it seems like the new MacBook Pro's are riddled with all kinds of annoyances and problems. Apple seems to be extra lazy this year.

No. It would be more the equivalent of saying "doctor, it hurts when I walk normally, but when I squat down and lean on my left leg, it doesn't hurt as bad."

I feel for those who bought this generation. I had issues with my first Gen Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 with the screen burn issue which was replaced. I'll be waiting until this are ironed out in the next generation or two.

Everything ever made is full of compromises. NOTHING comes without cost. For many this is a remarkably well balanced set of compromises and I for one can't wait.

I'm so happy I got the non emoji bar MacBook. Super light, enough power for my use, removable ssd and cheap enough to let me buy something more powerful or an iMac/mini later.
Emoji bar MacBooks seem to be bad news...especially at that price tag. o_O

Perspective, you hit the nail on the head. It's missing from this site, and it seems the internet as a whole!
