Already done that with my PD2720U. It still wakes from sleep at the default 1080p resolution with only the upper left portion of my 1440p desktop.
Yes, alas the 11.2 update didn't fix the problem: when waking up from sleep the Benq EW3270U display wakes into 1080p instead of 4K.

For once I managed to reset the display resolution from 1080p to 4K by unplugging and replugging the USB-C cable (while in clamshell mode).

However, after resuming from sleep with opened display this time, the built-in Retina display remained black (although the OS kept opening apps on that display. It's definitely not a backlight problem (I saw the backlight "bleeding" through the display)...

I can always get my 2560 x 1440 resolution back by either:

1. Going into Sys Prefs/Displays and selecting any scaled resolution other than 2560 x 1440 or 1920 x 1080, followed by 2560 x 1440.

2. Turning the monitor off and on via the switch on the rear.

I have left feedback on Apple's site.

Different problem for me, but also related to Thunderbolt since 11.2 update on Mac mini Silicon.

My class complaint (SSL2+) audio interface will no longer connect via Thunderbolt port. It does still work with USB A ports. It does still receive power when connected via thunderbolt, but is not recognised / available for use.
Monitor connects to and works with either thunderbolt port.
Oddly (to me at least), system report states 'No Device Connected' for both thunderbolt ports; even the one with the monitor connected and functioning.

Thanks to a post here, my wake-from-sleep woes appear to be fixed. Hopefully for good... :)

Go to: /Library/Preferences/
Delete files: com.apple.windowserver.plist and com.apple.windowserver.displays.plist

Go to: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
Delete files: com.apple.windowserver.XXXXXXXX.plist and com.apple.windowserver.displays.XXXXXXXXXX.plist

Empty trash. Restart.

M1 MacBook Pro connected through HDMI (via USB-C hub) to Dell 34” Widescreen monitor. Things worked great until 11.2 update, now, monitor is recognized, maybe once a day. I have reported the bug to apple. But damn this is frustrating, totally killed my productivity.

This one didn't appear to work for me, but then I thought "what if I disconnect my (USB-C thinkpad dock) from the power, then plug it back in?" - after trying out different combos of HDMI and DP.

Now, that didn't work either. But weirdly, when I "gave up" and plugged the power back into the dock, my external monitor started working again with macOS (also, the .plist files have regenerated, video signal still over DP, etc).

Not sure how useful that is as a data point, but it's giving me confirmation bias over my pet theory that somehow macOS wasn't sure if my dock was a charger or not.

*In the end, I just hope I don't have to remember some specific ritual of: d/c dock power, d/c dock, r/c dock, r/c power every couple of hours....

Can confirm it's not limited to MacBooks.

Mac mini (2018)
3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Upgraded to 11.2 this morning and the 2nd LG monitor is not getting a signal. Tried unplugging/ swapping cables, powering off/on, restarting, putting to sleep/ wake-up (which actually caused both monitors to stay in sleep mode)

Filed a bug on apple.com :(

I am also having this issue. Big Sur 11.2 MacBook Pro Late 2019 model, with a Benq sw271 4k 60hz monitor.

Will not recognize the 4k and defaults to 1080p mode. If I replug it a few times sometimes it will recognize. If I then turn the screen off / unplug / change anything, it will drop back into not recognizing properly.

Very frustrating. Has anyone tried rolling back to Catalina?

I'm still having problems

MacBook Pro 16"
Big Sur 11.2
Eizo S2410W

Monitor turns on and then turns off. Over and over and over again.

Incidentally Catalina has also been plagued with external monitor issues. I think things have mostly been fixed. I ended up using a caldigit HDMI hub and I prevent sleep using amphetamine. HDMI tends to be more reliable from what I’ve read. I’m in no rush to update given these reports.

Another with the same (or similar issues). ACD 30 connected via genuine apple adapter to MDP port on usb-c dock. Works for a few seconds then turns off. In one way I’m glad I’m not alone, in another I’m frustrated because no fix without Apple choosing to fix it.

Really bad flickering here with my m1 MacBook Pro and LG 5k (LG 27MD5KB-B Ultrafine 27")
Flickers as if the monitor is going into standby. I have to either rapidly press the keyboard or power cycle the monitor to wake up the screen. Seems to have started around 11.2 update or so.

Big Sur 11.3 DB2, MacBook Pro M1, BenQ SW321C, official Apple TB3 cable.

Still stuck on 30Hz over USB-C connection. No changes. Utterly depressing, embarrassing from Apple. Patience is running thin, they had loads of time to address this.

That’s incredibly disappointing to hear. This debacle has borked my workstation and workflow completely. Going from a 34” to 13” for daily work has been miserable.

Currently I am connected by HDMI through a Hyper USB port. Would it be worth buying a USB-C to Display Port cable to try? Or am I just totally SOL at this point?

Neither works on my end. I don't get any display resolution choice better than the degraded resolution in use by macOS at the time (either 1080p or even 720p). Powering off and on the external monitor does nothing (resolution remains unchanged, no reinitialisation of possible resolution choices in the display preferences).

That did the job for me.

After restarting, I had a sudden system reboot, after which I had to reconfigure the settings for the external display.

I'm curious to see how "permanent" this fix is, while we wait for Apple to provide a fix.

FWIW I also have an external USB-C dock to which I attach my external Time Machine disk through USB, the monitor is directly attached to a free USB-C port on the MBP.

It's been a permanent fix for me. (so far...)

I had to reconfigure my external display after trashing the prefs too.

My display is TB3 connected to my MBP.

setting DisplaPort Version within display settings from 1.4 to 1.2 did solve HDMI - HDMI connection problems
