That is weird, I use 2FA, it sends a security code request through my iPhone, I have never seen it ask me random questions that I forgot. You sure you are talking about Apple's 2 factor?
What I mean is that when I called into Apple for assistance with resetting the password, they went through a whole bunch of questions that my in law simply couldn't remember. We eventually dug up the info and Apple confirmed her identity and reset the password but we were told that if 2FA is enabled and we don't remember information, we basically are left in the dust whereas without it, we have better control and Apple has more capability to do resets. Granted this was close to 2 years ago and it may have changed but this single incident caused me to ignore the constant annoyance to enable it on my devices. I love Apple but to reset everything after literally 10 years of app store use or however long it's been is simply not an option is all.

This is only my personal experience and opinion of the matter so take it with a grain of salt.

This happened yesterday and then again this afternoon. I would think this is a bigger problem, especially concerning is whatever is going on deleted my security code on my card. Apple you should offer an explanation of what is going on.

Why call Apple to reset passwords? You should be able to do it online. When the error came up on my iPhone last night, I reset the password online without talking to Apple (after verifying my credit card number).

Yep happened to me too.
I changed my Password to a complex 20 character one.
Luckily I'm using 1Password it was simple to change.
I also have 2 factor authentication set up.
I wish Apple would give us some clue as to what happened.

Looks like I spoke too soon. My son’s me.com account was also up for a password reset.

Whilst it’s annoying due to the timing and process. I wonder if Apple detected a security breach somewhere and triggering this present action? It could be something that’s helping us to secure our accounts. Who knows!

Reminds me of this...;)

As for the issue at hand, seems like I always miss the boat...a good thing.

Solid reference! Now that’s not something you hear every day.

YOU are special! YOU were selected! Not everyone can say that.

I just knew it.

There’s a guy with a red button on his desk.

Get this guy, he says. Get him again. Password reset?! Pfffthahahahaha HIT’EM!

Happened to me yesterday. Nothing earth-shattering, took roughly five minutes to deal with two accounts on three devices.

It probably was for the best. Hadn’t changed my passwords in over a year.

Super annoying! I have a long password with different characters and only just started to memorize it, now have to do it all over again with a new password.

I'm on 2FA and still happened to me this morning.
Does this mean that my apple id(email) was leaked for sure? This is why i don't trust any cloud service.

Wow. That's scary. It definitely means a lot of apple Id was leaked along with the password for some. Or maybe the password was leaked somewhere where you used the same password and the email address. I wish the Apple adopts physical authenticator like Yubikey USB.

This hit me last night - but even after answering questions- made me change my password- ANNOYED at minimum!!

It happened to me too. I guess it's good, I had not changed my password in a long time. Now I made it unique to iCloud, that's also good.

scam. Some using same number reference.

Glad that I stumbled across this. While some folks are into social media everything, I prefer to keep to a minimum. I'm on the Google thing' which I think was formally Google+, but even with that, I just don't like it. Recently, I adjusted my settings for auto updates, so I figured it was a clash of some sort. I'm curious as to how Apple's going to spend this, but if history repeats itself; Apple will deny it for the short term; starting with the number of those affected.

In my case I am locked out of my online access to iCloud. In order to get into iCloud, online, I must change my password. My apple ID, however is a. mac.com. address and I cannot receive email at that address in order to change my password, therefore if I want to access iCloud online I must change my Apple ID ! I like my mac.com address so I'll just leave iCloud website alone.... I've contacted Apple about this and they scratched their collective head and said, "Duh...yeah...sorry". Oh well.
