I was actually wondering why they hadn't built an iPhone PlayStation app!

Even if it doesn't have any connectivity to a PS3 (yet, perhaps?? I hope it's yet! lol) I still would snag it as soon as it's available in North America. I like keeping up to date with PS related news.

by apple's rules bluetooth is only to be used for audio. the PS3 uses bluetooth for the remote control and it's against apple's rules to have a PS3 remote app for IOS

I really hope this a testbed for expanding future functionality because it really sucks as it stands.

I'm sure that's exactly what is going to happen. Sony is probably looking at the Xbox Live integration with the new Windows Mobile platform. They probably realized if there is any chance of branching out the PlayStation 3 it would have to be with the help of the iOS platform.

I'm sure they are just testing the waters. It needs to be a success before they risk trying it in the United States.

That sounds very good indeed! I've had a home screen link to the PS Euro blog for a while now, but to combine it all in one app sounds just great.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about adverts, it isn't an advert. It's the PS blog with PSN friendlists. There are no adverts there, no more than the MR frontpage. Just product releases, announcements etc. If you use PSN then it might have some use for you (it does for me).

Honestly, you people! Do you go round trolling medical apps because they're not useful to you?

Just because you can make an app doesn't mean you should :apple:

Unfortunately Sony has came to their senses to late, cause the iPod Touch in 2012 will have the LION share of the portable gaming market.

Bruce

Unless they move away from having the controls on the display I don't see this happening Bruce.

Are you kidding me??? The app is one big ad! Being notified of product release IS an ad in itself.

I got excited at first...until I realized it wasn't going to let me control the PS3 or use an iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad as a BlueTooth keyboard.

THAT would be cool; this is not.

You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. I want an app that functions as a Blu-ray remote and as a keyboard. Do those two things and I'd gladly pay $10-$20 for the app. Give my trophies and blog stuff and I'll pass.

No U.S. availability at launch?

I would not be surprised if Apple was the one to restrict US distribution. Keep in mind that Microsoft has a large holding in shares of Apple. This move could be so the domestic US sales of the X Box is not affected.

I was hoping for the PSP/PS3 remote play functionality. I like the suggestion of being able to use the PS3 Eye as a security cam...

I'd LOVE for this app to be able to act as a wifi keyboard for my PS3. I don't think bluetooth is possible as Apple hardly allows anything over bluetooth, but I don't think there's anything stopping a wifi keyboard from happening.

There is no such thing as a WiFi keyboard, or at least a standard protocol for one, so there would be no drivers on a PS3 to connect such a thing.

The PS3 can handle standard HID Bluetooth keyboards. Unfortunately I get the impression iOS does not support making the iPhone, etc. appear like a new type of Bluetooth device. You'd basically want to make the iPhone behave like a Bluetooth keyboard.

There is at least one app for jailbroken iPhones, WeBe++, to make it behave like a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse (and it claims to be PS3 compatible).

So if you read in a newspaper or blog about a films launch date, or watch/read an interview with an actor, do you count that as advertising?
Do you think the App Store is solely a giant advertisement too? What about notifications in iOS or emails?
Cinema listings, TV show listings? Are they adverts?

Not app - crap

This is not an APP it is an Ad. While ads help us with "free" and or samples applications we may wish to upgrade, this is just a SONY scam.

Turn on a new SONY television and the SONY logo appears on the screen along with a very loud "ping" this is a "welcome" screen. Read "Infinite Jest"

Sony won't produce games for iOS. The point of PS* games is so Sony can (1) sell hardware, and (2) sell licenses to use that hardware; take away the hardware, and there is nothing for Sony to make money on. They don't want to add the complexity of ensuring games run on another platform - making an emulator for another operating system is not a trivial task; heck, Sony dropped PS2 emulation from the PS3, so if they won't emulate their own hardware to run on their other hardware, why would they write emulators to run on someone else's hardware?

Okay first off, PS2 games on ps3 wasnt emulation...it was a dedicated ps2 chip inside the ps3. Cutting off ps2 backwards compatibility on the ps3 was an effort to axe old hardware out of the ps3, thus driving the costs down a little more and making the ps3 cheaper for the mass public.

How many people actually play(ed) ps2 games on their ps3's.....I for one dont, I tried and the graphics sucked so much that it actually made me nauseous after a while...its like trying to play a game though privacy glass.

Trust me, if the desire of the mass's was for backwards compatibility on the ps3, sony would create an emulator (as its done for ps1 on the ps3...to play those awesome classics).
