I love Apple, I wouldnt buy any other notebooks and I could care less what's inside my notebook as long as the damned gpu works.
if you dont care whats inside your notebook why buy apple?

If nvidia puts in a new gpu I would still buy the montevina mbp because I would know that because nvidia knows and made at least an announcement that their new gpu will be fine.

so just because nvidia says its ok means it is?

do you think they sold all of those 8600s to apple saying, "oh these might not be ok"

dont you think they realize they were defective AFTER they were released?

and dont you think if there was a new problem they wouldn't realize it until AFTER the new ones are released?

Because of osx and apple now uses the exact same hardware in their notebooks since they dropped the ppc.

If they want to stay in business, yes.

If you read articles back last year, alot of people speculated/predicted that nvidia was having problems with their chipsets especially with overheating issues might arise. I guess it did happen, every company had their share of problems in the past.

For all I know maybe apple wont have any problems because either their cooling system in the mbp is that good or maybe even because apple always downclocks their gpu.

Apple will release a Montevina update . . it's just a matter of time. I doubt it'll be in the next two weeks (on average it's been 1.5-2.5 months after the chip's initial release date). If you want a Sony, buy Sony. If it's too expensive, buy Apple . . if Apple's too expensive, buy Dell (and get a better resolution - 1900x1200). If money isn't an issue, buy a MBP and put a 1900x1200 screen in it, and ship it to me.

if they released a new notebook, many many more people would run out and buy it, therefore causing apple to give away many many more ipods, thus canceling out the reason for the sale ANYWAY the only reason for the sale is to sell more product to people who might otherwise buy a dell or sony, apple doesn't WANT to give away free ipods thus the reason for not releasing a new product until the day AFTER the sale ends im sorry that you cant follow basic business sense

Squeeks, I doubt the Back-to-school sale was to sell computers, I think it has more to do with developing their base with the iPod Touch. If they didn't want to do that, why would they give a $300 rebate on one product, when they can give a $200 rebate on another "lesser" product? You sure as hell don't make money basically giving it away. What they're trying to do is make a large profit off apps.
Releasing a new computer after the B2S sale would:
A.) Undoubtedly piss people off.
B.)Open up market space during the sale for PC makers "We're selling a cheaper, up-to-date computer while apple still pushes their out-of-date over priced computer. Now, wouldn't it just make sense to get our computer?" Sure, you get a free iPod, but is it really worth it to have an underspec'd & overpriced laptop in comparison?
As you like to say "No."

You speak of business sense, yet you clearly have none.

It would be nice if Apple would. If I was in the market for a PC I would be keeping an eye on these.

squeeks, you know what's more annoying than people voicing stupid opinions and speculation on a rumors forum...? People who are condescending and treat this speculation like garbage when they know nothing more. It's ALL speculation, nobody knows anything, so quit telling him "no" and saying he's wrong. You may not agree with him, that's fine, but don't tell him he's wrong and stupid because he doesn't agree with you. Unless you actually work at Apple (not a retail store) then don't be so harsh to speculation on a rumors board...

well its now july 14, the day some have waited to get some more information.

i dont feel anything yet :D

just because Sony is updating their product line does NOT mean apple will too, not until the back to school sale is OVER the back to school sale is to clear out inventory, not give a bunch of people free ipods who will be running to buy the new notebook

Dude, Apple released the Santa Rosa revision during last years Back to School offer.

Apple generally releases revisions 4-5 weeks after the processor is released, this is an almost unbroken tradition since the Intel switch. Now bear in mind that Montevina has been repeatedly delayed so it's very likely Apple is ready to launch already, but whether or not they'll wait a couple of weeks for the iPhone 3G stuff to die down I don't know.

Probably, they don't want mad store rushes. I say 2 to 3 weeks max. Then again they could announce them online for a shipping date in a couple of weeks and i would not at all be surprised.

They're obviously releasing before the Back to School offer ends though, there are thousands and thousands of students in the market for MBP who know a thing or two about computers and so know Montevina are on the way, and will either wait for Montevina MacBook Pros or go with another brand if Apple are too slow.

Also dont forget that montevina is delayed and very overdue and intel is suppose to officially release it today.

I wouldnt be surprised if the montevina mbp popped out of no where in the next couple of weeks. I'm sure every OEM has their factories all set up all ready to go and only need the arrival of the chipset to solder onto their motherboard/logicboards to ship out the orders.

why do you keep showing me a link to your stupid opinion??

Its perfect for back to school sale and it wouldnt really matter because the macbooks will be concentrated on the back to school notebooks not the macbook pro.

So if they release the macbook pro they could sell them like they would normally especially if you check out the refurb store at apple.com that most of the 15" mbp are already gone and apple probably already switched productions to the newer montevina already. Especially with the nvidia fiasco.

Not to mention apple always released the mbp first before the macbooks months later.

Allow me to give my worthless opinion.

You are correct in that the back to school special focuses more on macbooks than anything else. Look at all of the ads (I know some douche will link to an ad with a macbook pro) .

I'm really not sure why people seem to think apple is unlike every other company. They will release new macbook pro's before september 15. Here's why:

1. keep up with competition.
When it comes to apple's Pro lines, the specs matter, and releasing some of the most powerful machines in the industry (at least as far as processors go) is important for sales in the pro market.

2. Back to School deal.
A new macbook pro in a sleek new enclosure will steal some sales from the competition as well as the macbook line among college students. Apple would likely rather sell macbook pro's than macbooks.

3. They know I want one.
I'm important. Since I want one they will definitely be updated before September.

There you have it.

maybe new mbp on tuesday since sony already is getting ready to announce/release their new notebook?

It's not happening. Don't get your hopes up and then feel (unnecessarily) angry at Apple for not updating them.

You have a defective GPU? What happened to it?

He's talking about the fact that some nVidia GPUs are defective. It doesn't affect the MacBook Pros.

Actually you're wrong about Apple not releasing it during the Back 2 School promotion. Last year they released the Santa Rosa MBP's right in the middle of the promotion. Sorry, but you're dead wrong.

1. keep up with competition.

3. They know I want one. I'm important.

Thereby proving you wrong. I'm glad that you've accepted that it can be done.

Apple... doesn't really care. As evidenced by the fact that they took 518 days to update the Mac Pros.

You keep telling yourself that. The 6.7 billion people on this rock beg to differ.

The mac pro thing is a good point...but..The buyers guide shows they never went more than a year without upgrading the mac pro. and. In january, they updated it less than 2 months after intel announced the launch of its desktop penryn processors.

The way it works is people who want one (mbp or anything else) will think its going to be upgraded and people who already bought one don't think it will be. It's wishful thinking on both parts. I just find it hard to believe they would wait on an update just because the back to school special is going on.

I'm glad you took my post with a large dose of seasalt though.

The Buyer's Guide shows they never went more than a year without upgrading the Mac Pro.

See, the only problem I have with the Buyer's Guide is the fact that it's WRONG. It counts the addition of an Octore option to the last Mac Pro as an update when the rest of the line went unchanged. This is fallacy. Stack the last two bars together and you'll see how long we really went.

518 days. The Buyer's Guide needs to be CHANGED to represent that.

Interesting...Funny how they didn't count the BTO with the 2.6 ghz processor on the macbook pro that happened back in october or november as an Update.

I didn't really look into each update because I was lazy but since you mention it I do recall that update. Oh well.

actually the SR mbps were relased on the same day as the start of the promotion last year

I'm pretty sure SR mbp was released right at the start of the back to school promotion.

Clarifications

First of all, Sony is clearly going to beat Apple when it comes to releasing the first notebook with Montevina. This doesn't necessarily mean that Apple's going to push their new MBP out as soon as possible.

With regards to the back to school sale, they're trying to get rid of their iPod touch stock, not their laptop stock. Last year, Apple released new MBPs right as the back to school promo was beginning. This year, the last update came in February. Given their current update cycle, we could see a new MacBook Pro any week now.

In the end, they'll release it when they feel that it's ready. No sooner, no later.

Unless the iPhone madness drops off fast (and I hope to heck it does), Apple will wait until August or later - they'll want to get two publicity bumps, and want to avoid massive crowds in their stores.

Besides, there's no new MBP identifier in the 10.5.4 build, and 10.5.5 isn't seeded yet. Wouldn't they at least need new drivers if it has a new GPU (which, after the Nvidia announcement)? The question is, would that require a new OS build, or just a specialized install media?
