Have Mac vs PC ads proved that Windows is a great OS/computer?

Different comparison.

A windows PC and a Mac PC are both comparable in computing power generally. We know that. Apple was advertising that it's environment might be more attractive to many Windows users. While Sony is doing this too, the PSP is supposed to be a gaming portable while games on an iphone are a "fringe benefit". Sony is showing that the gaming on the iphone turned out to actually be competitive with their gaming device.

"Dat ain't built for big boyz." Big boys don't carry PSP's around.

~giggles~ You would be amazed at what you see in the waiting rooms of doctors offices these days. Don' read the magazines anymore they are fully of germs from sick people. Better to use your own iPhone, iPad, iTouch or other gaming device. Many doctors offices even have wireless access set up for patients. :) I've seen elderly adults with an elderly nintendo playing the original version of Mario Brothers. I currently use my iPod Touch. 2 gen at the doc office and surf.

The iPhone 4 beats the PSP in every way. You don't have to carry game disks with you, You have one piece of hardware for playing games AND texting your grandma, the iPhone 4 has better specs all around, and it has a faster web browser. You can also do countless other things on an iPhone that a PSP could only dream of doing. Also, how many kids do you see carrying around an iPhone compared to the number of kids with a PSP?

What age kids are you referring to? You might be surprised but not that many kids in my kindergarten actually carry iPhones. I'd dare to say that not that many teenagers have the iPhones either just because of the cost of data plans. And obviously you are fooling yourself thinking that iPhone is better for gaming than PSP (unless you are talking about Solitaire or Chess type games)

I think the iPhone 4 is great as a gaming device :)

I agree. The fact that Sony says something with some wanna-be hip-hop guy who can't wear his hat right trying to be cool dissing iOS devices says a lot.

Honestly, I think they missed the mark and might as well had a bunch of Sony executives scream and run drunk down Rapungi bitching about yet another American company moving in on their turf.

The six story tall Palm banners in Akiabara in Tokyo in the late 90's was a sight to see. The Apple store on the Ginza in Tokyo (http://www.apple.com/jp/retail/ginza/) is another sight to see! At least these American invasions didn't leave any background radiation.

Maybe Sony should come out with a new device and stop wasting their dollars fighting a losing battle. The iPod touch is a much better gaming platform than the PSP. I have not touched my PSP since I got my iPhone (until about 6 months ago when I boxed it up for ebay).

A better gaming platform? hell no. A more convenient one, yes. PSP is too expensive for what it does. If the price were lowered across the board for hardware and games, more people would be willing to put up with the inconvenience IMO.

I have the PSP. It's no where near the quality of the iPod Touch or iPhone. Even sometimes the DS is more playable than it.

I'm a Sony fanboy, but that was a terrible ad. The iPhone will work and download games anywhere. The PSP, you need to be in a WiFi area or home wireless network. It's advertising without all the facts and it's apples to soft oranges.

Sony did great with the PS3, but lost it's view and direction of the PSP and Nintendo ate them for lunch and then went out for dinner. Sorry Sony.

What a missed opportunity. All Sony had to say was

"Our buttons just work."

There are some types of games that I have completely given up playing on my iPhone because it misses taps or misinterprets certain gestures. I know my son hates playing on my iPhone because of that very reason. Kids really don't have much of a tolerance for games that don't work exactly as they should.

I do not think so. I think Sony just tells the kids who were given iPods or retired iPhones as gaming devices that there is a better gaming platform out there. They give kids the weapon against the parents who thought that giving the kids their iPhones to play for one hour a day might have sufficed ;)

Could've been...

If Sony hadn't been asleep at the wheel, the Walkman could be a viable competitor to the iPod/iPhone today. Now look at them.

I don't think they have any choice but to try and catch up.

Problem is, smartphones have become the gravitational center of the mobile gadget galaxy, and Sony appears to not yet recognize this.

Well no you are talking a different subject.

I was discussing the Mac ads you brought up in comparison.

And with one advert, Sony confirm that they are worried and taking Apple seriously as a competitor.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is identical on the iPhone and iPod touch and costs just £6 here in the UK on the App Store.

You can also get PSP comparable games like PES 2010 (£6) and Madden NFL 11 (£5), which is one of many games offering Retina Display support to give visuals on par with the PSP.

Other games like Street Fighter 4, Geometry Wars, N.O.V.A, Ridge Racer, Let's Golf 2 (Gameloft's take on Everybody's Golf), Need For Speed Shift are all on par with PSP games and cost a fraction of the cost of a UMD or download.

Sorry, but the PSP Go is an unmitigated flop, confirmed by the fact Sony are throwing 10 free downloadable games at buyers that include top titles like MotorStorm, Assassins Creed, Gran Turismo, and WipEout.

Well of course the PSP isnt as nice hardware as an iphone. Iphones cost $600, PSP $200.

You cant honestly say that the actual gaming experience is better on an iphone vs PSP. PSP has better games and actual buttons. Plus playing games that use tilt controls looks really goofy on a train. The only games that iphones are better at are solitaire type games.

I love Sony but the true facts are is that the PSP is dead according to last months NPD numbers the PSP sold 22k units. Force unleashed II was canceled for the psp and i can expect more to follow if the sales continue to drop. Sony really needs to step up and announce a PSP2 reved up graphics/hardware to start taking it self seriously.

I haven't touched my PSP since I got bored of 2K10 6 months ago. The PSP gets a new game like what, twice a year? No wonder they're advertising old games. They've got no choice

Sony's problem has always been throwing formats out there that could become market leaders, and leaving them to rot.

Betamax, killed by their own stubbornness and JVC allowed VHS to enter the rental market.

MiniDisc, a brilliant portable music medium which I bought into heavily and adored in it's heyday. Let down by a massive lack of marketing and third party label support. Unless you bought blanks and recorded your own music, there was very little pre recorded MD's outside Sony's own record studios.

UMD, like MiniDisc but higher capacity and capable of playing back video. Could have been a huge portable movie format, but was supported too little too late. Now you get shelves of budget titles on UMD in the likes of GameStation for less than a tenner, but no-one's interested thanks to the likes of iTunes and digital downloads.

PSN is in real trouble when the Game Center for iOS gets released this fall.

iPhones, Touches, and iPads on a networked gaming system. The Devs will need to rebuild game apps to take advantage, but it will slowly take over mobile networked gaming.

Obviously, things like physical buttons and dedicated hardware is valuable to hardcore gamers and will always be in demand... the point is most casual gamers are more then satisfied with the capabilities of the iPhone. Sony (and nintendo etc) is in danger of losing the casual gaming market, which they've really only had thus far by default.

The iPhone may not be able to replicate a "serious" gaming experience, but for an all in one device it's certainly more then adequate for 75% of the gaming market.

have you played NOVA/ SFIV or NFS if you have you would know your statement is BS so your Statement is BS untill you play those games

Why buy another gaming device, while you can have another gaming device, with a camera, plus a phone, plus TEXTING, and MORE all in just one simple device.

You need physical buttons for a device to fully bloom.

PSP sucks. I had one and the games were horrible (mainly due to the fact there wasn't another analog stick so I was playing many casual games). The PSPGo has taken a huge step backwards IMO (and not only because of still having one analog stick).

But I'd take the PSP over my iPhone for more hardcore games. For casual games, the iPhone is great. The PSP has no competition with the iPhone. No one is going to buy an iPhone thinking they will game on it.

I like sony because i have a PS3 and they make really good products.....except the PSP and PSPgo sony just needs to stop don't attack the IPone/Ipod Touch they should be attacking the Nintendo Ds cause it's owning the PSP and PSPgo in sales and games...so leave apple alone till they are actually a real challenge to them :D
